Fishing in WoW Forever asks for time rather than materials: a pole, a pocket of lures and a lot of casts carry you from 1 to 300.

Level Cooking alongside it. Each fish you pull out is also a Cooking ingredient, so the two skills rise together and nothing you catch is wasted. Our combined route lives at /wow-forever/guides/fishing-and-cooking/.

Trainer, vendor and quest placements below come from community references built on the beta clients. Content that needs level 35 (the Artisan quest and 225 onward) has not been reached in the beta yet, so treat it as the Classic layout until we walk it ourselves.

Where to learn Fishing

Apprentice Fishing has no level gate in the beta, so a brand-new character can learn it.

Keep every fish if you plan to cook; the smallfish and snapper carry Cooking to 100.

Journeyman 75–150

Learn Journeyman from any Fishing trainer first (skill 50, level 10). Capital water is the comfortable choice; bites stop escaping there once you pass 75.

To train past 75, learn Journeyman Fishing (requires skill 50 and character level 10).

Any Fishing trainer teaches it, including the starting-zone ones.

Expert comes from a book, not a trainer: Expert Fishing - The Bass and You, sold by Old Man Heming in Booty Bay (level 20, Fishing 125). Buy Bright Baubles from him while you are there.

Snapper and catfish give way to Raw Mithril Head Trout as you climb. Fish here because the Artisan quest starts in the same zone.

Artisan is gated behind Nat Pagle's quest in Dustwallow Marsh (level 35, Fishing 225). This band is beyond what the beta lets us reach; the zones are the Classic ones the reference lists.

Nightcrawlers from Sheendra Tallgrass (Camp Mojache) or Vivianna (Feathermoon Stronghold) also work in Feralas; swap in a fresh one every ten minutes.

Casting for the first time

The ability lives in the Professions window, which is where most people lose it. Once it is on a bar, fishing is cast, wait, click.

Open the Professions window and use the hammer button in the right-hand button column, not the Fishing tab.
Drag the Fishing ability out of the Fishing box onto an action bar.
Equip the Fishing Pole and right-click a Shiny Bauble, then click the pole to attach it.
Stand at a lake, pond or river edge and press the Fishing button.
Watch the bobber; when it dips and splashes, right-click it.

Expert Fishing: the book, not a trainer

From 150 onward the rank comes from reading Expert Fishing - The Bass and You. Old Man Heming sells it at the bottom level of Booty Bay next to the fishing sign, and it also turns up on the Auction House. You need level 20 and Fishing 125 to read it.

Four quest fish, four zones, one each. Only Feralas needs a lure.

Feralas Ahi — Feralas Put a Bright Bauble (or a saved Aquadynamic Fish Attractor) on the pole here; without one most bites escape.
Misty Reed Mahi Mahi — Swamp of Sorrows No lure needed once your skill is this high.
Sar'theris Striker — Desolace No lure needed.
Savage Coast Blue Sailfin — Stranglethorn Vale No lure needed.

Lures at a glance

A lure is a timed buff on the pole. Reapply when it runs out, and carry more than you think you need because the marsh sells none.

Camp items from this profession

Every profession adds three camp items, one per tier. Placing one at a campfire gives everyone sitting there its buff for an hour. How camping works.
