I'm in the White Lodge

The enigmatic 'White Lodge' was hinted at a few times on the television show Twin Peaks. More often than not, it was in direct mention to the Black Lodge, a place frequently portrayed in the show.

Mentioned briefly in the second season by token lunatic Windom Earle, "Once upon a time, there was a place of great goodness, called the White Lodge. Gentle fawns gamboled there amidst happy, laughing spirits. The sounds of innocence and joy filled the air. And when it rained, it rained sweet nectar that infused one's heart with a desire to live life in truth and beauty. Generally speaking, a ghastly place, reeking of virtue's sour smell. Engorged with the whispered prayers of kneeling mothers, mewling newborns, and fools, young and old, compelled to do good without reason ... But, I am happy to point out that our story does not end in this wretched place of saccharine excess."

He then goes on to mention how the White Lodge was swallowed by its evil counterpart, the Black Lodge. "A place of almost unimaginable power, chock full of dark forces and vicious secrets. No prayers dare enter this frightful maw. The spirits there care not for good deeds or priestly invocations, they're as like to rip the flesh from your bone as greet you with a happy "good day." And if harnessed, these spirits in this hidden land of unmuffled screams and broken hearts would offer up a power so vast that its bearer might reorder the Earth itself to his liking."

This is a reference to the early 1990s television series, "Twin Peaks."

The show, which was filmed in Aurora, Washington, USA, takes place in a fictional town called "Twin Peaks" and was one of many great influences into modern crime drama and forensics TV shows such as CSI, NCIS, and perhaps even Law and Order (many other shows such as Hill Street Blues also contributed influence to later trends in TV series).

The overall plot synopsis involves (no spoilers, :-) the death of a teenage girl whose body is found on the beach. The first season follows the journey of an experienced FBI agent who follows protocol by the letter (but thinks "outside the box"). By the end of the first season the mystery of the initial plot is solved. However, there remains more work to be done and the second season continues from there...although the show was pulled from the air after most viewers lost interest with the initial case having been solved.

Good show for the times, better plot twists than most current ones. /nostalgia
