Rank 1Stop over-promising
Say I will check and answer Thursday instead of an eager yes. A kept small promise outranks a broken generous one.
Rank 2Close every loop
Track commitments in one place you actually look at, and close each loop explicitly: done, shipped, could not, because. Ghosting a promise is breaking it politely.
Rank 3Break them early
When you must break one, say it early, give the real reason, and offer a path. Trust survives honest failure far better than silent optimism.
