Lord Alexander's Battle Axe

Decent weapon for all that can use it at that level (Shaman, Pally, Warrior, Hunter). Good it is cheap at the AH (15-20g).

Never, never, never waste money on this axe. Simply get the quest to complete AV and get the Iced Barbed Spear(http://www.wowhead.com/?item=19106). It is an extremely overpowered weapon you can get at the same level. Plus it's FREE! PS: Since WoW 2.0, it's even more wasteful to buy this, considering polearm/axe spec are combined to one talent!

Shaman can't use polearms so it's a great weapon. If you can use the spear, you should get it instead. Nuff said.

and if you as a hunter like me, picked up the Xbow, this axe would be a wonderfull replacement for my old axe! rly wounderfull axe this

Ronanriot was right, I don't think he was referring to Shamans specifically, but for hunters and such Ice Barbed Spear IS better.

plus Ice Barbed Spear seems to be more of a ally weapon, cause the horde never wins AV

A nice weapon if you can pick one up. Sure the Ice Barbed Spear from the Alterac Valley BG win is better, but you need to win a match in there to get it. With the release of TBC, not many players are wasting time in the 60 and pre-60 battlegrounds so your chances of quickly winning an AV (without going on 40 runs or so) are hit and miss.

I used this axe between levels 51 and 58, it was well worth the 12g i payed for it. I read in another forum that Blizzard removed the quest that gives the IBS, i don't know if that is true or not. If you can wield it and find it in the ah at a good price (20g or below), buy it. You will not buy any more weapons for a long time since one of the first quest rewards in Outland is the 'Rage reaver' (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=29908) at 58.

this may seem kinda idiotic,but i got this axe from satyrs in Aszhara.not much to look at,ice barbed spear is way better. if you got this axe just put it into AH and wait for some dope to buy it.

I am assuming most of the comments here are from those who are PVP fans. I would say that this is a nice weapon if you are a casual player and not PVP ing.

As a hunter I took the x-bow as an award from the AV quest so I bought this aswell

Too bad this is a horrible hunter weapon, strength does not increase ranged attack power for a hunter, not 1 point, not even a fraction of a point. strength is completely useless for a hunter.

However, 17 agility and 16 stamina is pretty nice

This weapon is not a waste of time to buy if you arn't a heavy PvPer. I've been using it for a while it is a good weapon for a DPS tank.

I honestly think this axe is a waste of time on a ret paladin. The stats are nice, I will agree, but the damage isn't that great for a 51 weapon, and the speed is way too fast for seal of command to proc. If you can, don't bother getting this weapon, and go on to something like the Dreadforge Retaliator from BRD instead.

You may want to double check your figures. As SoC is a 7 ppm Seal, the slower the weapon, the better... Period. With a swing time of 3.2s, you're getting a SoC Proc once every 2.679 swings. With a 3.6s Swing Speed, you get a proc every 2.381 swings. The higher the proc/swing ratio, the higher dps. Further, slower weapons usually have higher damage numbers (the numbers SoC scales with....), and thus cause SoC damage to be higher as well. End result: Use the Spear. Higher weapon damage, slower speed. Better for Ret pallies than the axe.

The stats on this are fantastic by itself. The damage is also very good indeed. However, its a bit fast for my taste. I am a Ret pally and the slower the better (harder SoC hits). But its not terrible.

bought this for 7g on my shammy great until 55-56 outland greens. Great for Storm Strike

You'd be MUCH better off dual wielding. Stormstrike and lava lash and shamanistic rage AND maelstrom weapon all benefit MUCH more from dual wield, not to mention the base DPS is much higher. Hell ripsaw x2 would be better then this.

{Before people vote this down, please know that I am aware of the time stamps.} If you are an enhancement-speced shaman, never EVER wield 2-hand weapons as you will only be gimping yourself. actualy as a marks hunter i have bin reading lots of arguments weather this axe is better than the poler arm and the poler arm is but they say for a hunter its better to get the bow so i just made a conlusion ama gte the crossbow and get this axe

There is one reason that I love this axe. Some of you say this is a piece of crap, but the card game version is like one of the best weapons in the game. The way you get Lord Alexander's Battle Axe on the card game, is that you have to buy the onyxia raid deck and hope its in the loot. The "honorable" way to get a loot card (like epics, not like spectral tiger) is by defeating the raid (in this case, onyxia) and hoping that one of the loot cards that drops is Lord Alexander's Battle Axe. Plus it usually takes around 3-5 people to kill onyxia, so then you have to figure out who gets what cards. Vote me down if you want, I just love that axe card.

To clear things up even more, 2H weapons are PERFECTLY VIABLE before you hit level 40. Why on earth would you want to wield a single 1H weapon before you get dual-wield, when you can smash things into pieces with a big 2-handed stick?

Currently, this weapon is an OK improvement for a Ret Paladin or an Arms Warrior, but anyone else can do better (Hunters can use the Agility but Strength is wasted). Shaman do NOT want it because they can DW in the Enhance tree much earlier on now. The stats are a strange mix, something all to common in old WOW items.

To clear things up even further, come Cata Enhance shamans will get dual wield at level [b]10[/b]. So 2handers won't be viable anymore, barring a sudden change to support 2h enhance again.
