Chatterstone

This [b]Toy[/b] in Legion is crafted by Jewelcrafters. It is NOT Bind-on-Pickup, so can be sold on the Auction House or traded.

Of note, Legion will bring a new Toy achievement - [achievement=11176]. This will award the mount [item=140500].

The first thing I thought was [url=http://www.diablowiki.net/Chat_gem]the Diablo II Chat Gem[/url], but the 1 minute cooldown wouldn't make it viable for locating the perfect gem activation.

Using this toy will show "Gem activated." in yellow text, and will give you an invisible aura. Once you have the aura, using the toy again will show "Gem deactivated." in yellow text.

You have a [i]very[/i] rare chance when activating this toy to instead get the message "Perfect gem activated." come up in pink text, rather than yellow (see screenshot).

It is currently unclear what the 'perfect' activation does, or if it does anything at all beyond serving as a reference to the Diablo II Chat Gem, however the chance of getting it is incredibly low.

I must have clicked it at least 200 times and got no perfect activation. Then I decided it wasn't worth the trouble.

There was a blue response a week or two ago, stating the Chatterstone is "working exactly as intended" and the devs are more than happy with the result...... whatever that might be..

I can confirm as of 10th of July the "Perfect Gem" effect is still there, it appeared after spamclicking it for around 10 minutes straight. But only got it once. The effect seems to be account wide as you can activate it on one character and deactivate it on another. It is also persistant through logout. I have added a screenshot as well, that if it gets approved will show.

This item does exactly what the Diablo II Chat Stone does: It increases the gem drop rate in Diablo II. The doubters will have you believe otherwise, but I assure you it is true. My Necromancer has more chipped rubies and topazes than ever now. Thank you, Chatterstone!

Is it a joke reference from D2 or does this actually increase Gem Droprate in Legion?

It may appear, but it is not so. It increases gem prospecting success.

While we cannot reveal the purpose or function of the Chatterstone in the World of Warcraft toy box, we can say that it is working correctly and has more than exceeded our expectations. Also, Blizzard employees cannot confirm or deny any rumors regarding this Gem.

I was playing with this today to see if i could figure out what its for I also came to wowhead to see if anyone here had any idea. I have not been able to figure out what it is for but i have gotten it to show the pink "Perfect gem activated" but again I still have no idea what to do with it.

How does a Professional Jewelcrafter know how to craft something, and yet, have no idea what purpose it serves.. should have been a 'found' easter egg.. at least not knowing what purpose it served would make sense then.

still no insight to what it does... but whatever it is, it's account wide. hopped on a lowbie alt to do some leveling and went to turn it on to see if it would do anything on that toon. instead of activating, it deactivated.

I was not able to replicate this across multiple toons, swapping to characters who I knew had never used the stone before activated it each time on the first use. It appears each character has its own variable for this being active, as logging back to a character which i left active will result in deactive after use. I also observed that dying results in the gem being deactivated automatically.

*sigh* Just hit 110 and have managed to extract a grand total of 4 gem recipes and two jewelry recipes. But after several annoying quest chains I am now able to make a lockpick in an expansion without lockboxes and a toy that does...nothing. But hey, at least they advanced my jewelcrafting by...ah, nothing at all. -.-

omg this is it, this is he gem . once i activated perfect gem in dII then cow lvl for first time, and the whole level exploded, and got a ton of gold rares epics sets : )

Another disappointing toy to put with [item=129279]

I did not read what this toy was, before finally making it. I added it to my toy box, and used it once, got the pop up text, and started chuckling. Oh, the days of Diablo II, sitting there, waiting for Baal runs on Hell difficulty... this toy was worth the 20 gems, to me, just for that little chuckle. XD

I got the feeling, that the Chatterstone doubles the duration of baits applied to catch rar Legion-Fish Why? 'cuz I activate this toy, and go to catch some fish with my Underlight Angler - and of course with some bait - and it did have a duration of 4min not 2 And one got a 8min - not 4 Maybe I just went lucky on this - maybe we should look after this?

This is a perk provided by putting traits in your underlight angler.

Jewelcrafters: set this stone to ACTIVE before mass prospecting. So far, though tests are inconclusive, the amount of gems I get while massprospecting increases by 30-50% even with leystone.

I guess that when you get "perfect gem activated", it could mean that the gems you create have a much higher chance of being perfect gems.

I tested this theory out on about 1000 Empyrium and it definitely seemed to give me a lot more gems than usual.

I have conducted extensive testing to determine the validity of this claim. See my post below [edit: now above] (Wowhead limits replies to an amount insufficient for the test results, otherwise I would have placed it here).

I conducted 384 mass prospects of 7,680 empyrium (margin of error of +/- 5%, or 2.4% if mass prospecting can be considered a 4x equivalent of standard prospecting) after having received a message of "Perfect gem activated" in order to determine if the Chatterstone has any effect. The results are as follows, and I have included server-specific pricing as it may be relevant to some.

Total cost: 308,312g

Prospecting results (vs expected quantity based on 17,290 empyrium prospected without Chatterstone): -57 (expected 24) hesselian = 38,815g (vs 16,343g) -35 (43) chemirine = 62,266g (76,498g) -37 (50) lightsphene = 77,404g (104,600g) -43 (24) florid malachite = 21,457g (11,976g) -47 (46) labradorite = 26,743g (26,174g) -58 (42) argulite = 144,420g (104,580g) -1,536 (?) gem chips = 1,408g AH value

Total value of raw materials: 372,513g (vs 340,171g + gem chips) Return on investment: +64,201g (vs 31,859g + gem chips)

Note that this does not include the 5% AH cut, and your ROI is largely tied to the number of argulite prospected since, as of this post, it is worth significantly more than the other gems.

Conclusion: I received a total of 277 gems compared to an expected 229. This is an increase of 21%. Considering a margin of error of 5% (or 2.4% if we believe mass prospecting to be a 4x equivalent of standard prospecting), [b]we conclude that the Chatterstone provides a statistically significant increase in gems received.[/b] Note that prospecting was done under the "Perfect gem activated message," not the more common "Gem activated" message.

Finally, as a disclaimer, the prospecting rates without the Chatterstone are from late August 2017 whereas my rates with it are from October 13, 2017. If Blizzard has made any significant modifications to rates between those dates, testing would need to be redone before drawing any conclusions.

I have been meaning to test this theory too; I prospected 19300 empyrium after getting the perfect activation message. However, I died between getting this message and prospecting (I was flying around, accidentally hit my stone keybind, saw it get the perfect message as I fell to my death). Some testing after proves that dying after activation cancels the stone activation and so I'm assuming this prospecting was done without the stone's 'perfect effect'. See results in next reply:
