Actually, the reason why we enhancement shamans love a pair of these axes is because of the way they are sheathed on our backs.
Back in the day these acted as an incredibaly efficient rage delivery system. With flurry haste before the nerf (back when warrior flurry was a %30 increase), the attack speed after flurry was nerly identical in time to the global cooldown (approx. 1.54 sec attack speed). This alllowed a warrior to efficientlty have their rage delivered in the most efficient way possible.
It may not seem like much, but having your rage delivered per global cooldown creates an incredibly efficient character.
With these weapons, you are able to spam and "execute" every time the global cooldown refreshes. rather that waiting 2 seconds for a 2.60 weapon to generate rage. ( It's an approximation, I know, give me a break i'm drunk.)
For those who are anal about warrior efficiency, having a rage delivery system that opperates at nearly the same pace as the global cooldown is esential to maintaining a constant and reliable use of abilities.
BTW, forgive the grammer. I'm drunk and just got around to writting about this.
That's because it's a world drop and not from a specific mob. You're just as likely to see it from a muck spawn as you are from Murmur.

In patch 2.1 they are increasing the materials needed for many BoE epics, as has been stated in previous comments. Pre-patch mats are: 10 Felsteel bars 8 Primal Might 2 Primal Nether Post-patch mats are: 10 Khorium bars 10 Felsteel bars 8 Primal Might 2 Primal Nether
A runic hammer or a gladiator axe may be nice, but neither of them are sheathed to your back. You're missing a very vital stat of awesome when it comes to where one puts their weapons.
Crusader procs a certain amount of times per minute--it does not benefit from a higher attack speed.
It's actually going to require four Primal Nethers, not two.
I'm Dualwielding them for farming and pvp as a protection warrior. Spamming devastate and having all attacks cheaper from focused rage makes me feel very much like my old fury self getting in almost all the attacks and disruption that i could with fury (and hitting hard with the vitality and 1h weapon boosts) This weapon (x 2) plus to hit puts that on selectively when dwing, the crit is awsome and while ive got cruelty i dw in battlestance more so miss the 3% (but get almost a couple back here) . I have them with strenght gems and +20 strenght enchants so they are pure offense to the max
seriously ? 2.2 speed weapon for shaman ? Man there is many blue weapon better then this for shammy...
This is false, though I'm sure everyone's figured that out by now. At level 70 Crusader grants 60 strength, not 100. The tooltip still says 100 but your character sheet will reflect the correct value.
The speed issue is pretty major. I think these might be so fast as to be worse than a blue in the offhand. Check out:http://elitistjerks.com/f31/t13297-enhance_shaman_collected_works_theorycraft_vol_i/ for good info on enh gear
I am putting the strength enchant on it because the crusader enchant has a reduced effect at lvl 70 i heard
With the color scheme and the semi-unique head, I think this would be an excellent BC wep for auctioning with Transmog in mind.
This is the only Version of this Axe that a Non Shammy Alliance can get ahold of. All other models ether belong only to Shaman or are Horde based weapons.
According to your fact, yes I agree. Maybe I will have, Potency on the Main Hand and Crusader on the Off Hand since the OH weapon speed will make it proc more.
According to the currint patch notes on the WoW forums, the mats for BoE crafted epics will be increased significantly. So the Khorium Bars and extra Primal Nethers required are correct, but not until the patch. If you intend on getting any BoE crafted epics made, I suggest you do it soon.
I can tell you know. Farming for that axe is no fun and 8 primal mights is WAY to much. 4 would be good, but 8 is insane. And now i've got to farm for 2 axes before the patch. Not to mention only one (1) of these axes has the same mats a Felsteel Reaver or Fel Reaver (one of those) which is a two hander. Since when di one (1!!!) axe have the exact same mats as a two (2!!!!) hander. Shouldn't the mats be cut in have for the 1 hander. Unless your tanking/DW w/ something else, there is no point in farming for this instead of the 2 hander.
wrong, i just had this crafted yesterday and only required 2 Nethers, not four
Im a crafter of this baby and apart of the benefits as weapon and although there are some better weapons in 25-man instances I sell like crazy and unfortunately no time to go heroics.
Most of the shamies are begging to get those axes but no idea why those and not runic hammer (which I craft aswell) and most pvp warriors till they get arena weapons.
I would love to see shamies here explaining about this just out of curiosity.
I will back up the statement that warriors need this weapon for pvp/farm (I have 2 of those to farm as protection), its really awsome rage wise with pretty decent damage but not as good for pure pve (according to discussions with fury warriors which seem to favour dual sword wield or mace/sword)Fataljustice @ Sunstrider
Looks decent for a hunter in need of +hit, assuming it and the +crit isn't for melee only, dual wield these and you got yourself +1.9% crit, as well as the +28 hit rating, then you have a (2 if dual wielding) red socket(s) to play with. such a shame they're ugly.
However, if you don't need the +hit,
- http://www.wowhead.com/?item=23540
- seems to be a nice option.
I have two of these on my MM hunter. very nice for the hit rating and crit chance. I got them done up with the greater agility (+20) enchants, and bright crimson spinel (+20 attack power) on each. not as bright a glow as mongoose, but still a visible green mist around them.
Crusader enchant is still good since it proc 2-4 times every fight. DW Warrior Crusader on both weapon gives 240AP if both proc and stack at the same time. Rather having Potency total 80AP constant.
Does this weapon really sheathe on your back like the picture shows?
If so, this might be one of the most bad-assed axes ever! And I'm going to farm mats for them.
The Reflex blades, unfortunately, will pump out more dps and these, sweet, sweet sheathe-on-your-back babies. :'(
I did create this one since i believed it will be easy to sell. I have it on au for two months now and no buyer. the price is very reasonable considering the price for khorium bars at this time. Also i basically leveled alchemy on another character to get primal might. Not a cost effective weapon.
I got 2 of these made up this weekend. I can confirm that they do indeed hit like a TRAIN!! Really nice for DW shaman and highest DPS axes bar the Gladitor stuff.
They are back mounted instead of at your side when not in combat so they cross over on your back which is a very nice touch. Unfortunately there is a graphical glitch which means they merge into each other which looks a bit crappy. Ill upload a screenie asap.
Standard price for both Primal Nethers + crafting fee seems to be around 400g
Considering the incoming nerf to windfury, this Ax is looking more and more like the MH weapon for me (Enh Shaman). The speed is very important, but also, OH something like a dagger should mitigate some of the DPS loss of WF using Flametongue or Rockbiter weapon on the OH respectively.
Has the materials changed in 2.1? Because it says it now requires 10 khorium bars and 4 nethers instead of 2... Can anyone confirm this?
Mats as of this date are:
10x Felsteel Bar
8x Primal Might
2x Primal Nether(Almost) Too cheap if you ask me since this axe is quite nice.
It's and excellent offhand for a fury warrior. Red socket, nice hit and crit. Makes it an excellent stat increasing offhand. 8 str gem and 20 str enchant n it and you have yourself a potent decent offhand.
The stam and AP are nice on the mace, but the +hit rating is a definite bonus for dual-wield enhance shamans. Plus orc shamans get the +5 axe skill rating, so there is another bonus for this weapon.
The main reason is for the crit chance. Enhancement shamans do more damage and increase attack speed when they crit.
Just note, I believe this is the only back mounted DW weapon a shaman will msot likely see in their life time.
I'm half tempted as a resto jsut to make one and get the +81 Healing enchant to just have that "Whoa" factor.
Id like to add something for enhancement shamans looking to purchase this item, save some money and get a 2.6 speed green, the dps will be much more cost efficient.
Also, do not OH this and then just think you can use flametounge, if your that determined to buy a boe epic offhand get runic hammer. If its speed is under 2.4 avoid that item like the plague.
That must be some really lightweight train... that speed is complete garbage for an enh shaman.
never Offhand a dagger on enhancement. You want the slowest weapons possible in both hands, with WF on both. http://elitistjerks.com/f31/t13297-enhance_shaman_collected_works_theorycraft_vol_i/
They are being changed in 2.1 to 6 nether i beleive, from 2 nether currently.
the dude was right... they only added khorium. gg. there's a reason they call them "test" realms... don't bother posting until the patch actually comes out.
This weapon is TOO FAST for an enhancement shaman.
Its just a bit to fast....the highend dmg will make up for its speed on WF procs. This wepon and a Planar Edge or Dragonwhatsitsname Mace for MH would make a shammy very very happy. The most important thing on that wepon is actually the hit rating(u can never have to much of it while DWing :P). A nice alternative for those PvPers is http://www.wowhead.com/?item=28308
Well actually you can have too much, anymore than 23% is wasted. 24% is the cap, but there's always a 1% chance to miss anyway, so 23% it is.
My apologies; I should have mentioned that in the hands of an Enhancement Shaman, the Reflex Blades will pump out more dps. Simply because the WF procs will hit harder, and while the white damage is able to keep up for a short period of time, the discrepancy will eventually grow larger and larger over a time period.
Arguable... Although the blades have a higher end dmg their DPS is lower. This axe has +crit and hit(they are so sweet and beautifull. Imo for a non blacksmith this baby(dual wield even) will pump out far more dps then the blades due to those stats and the socketing. Also this axe is very nice for a fury warrior. Somewhat faster then other wepons it will help alot with rage generation and the +hit is again nice for dual wielders. Its a crazy axe, somewhat easy to make and people shouldnt underestimate it.
I was thinking of getting these two axes for my enhancement Shammy, would 2 of these be better perhaps? http://www.wowhead.com/?item=23544
Don't listen to the "math nerds" play the game how you want too, it is YOUR 15 dollars, play the way you feel is worth it.
Just wondering what people think of this as a potential off-hand for a Fury Warrior... Is it too slow to be overly effective?
Was thinking of getting one of these crafted, and use Vendicator's Brand (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=29124) as my main hand... Had also considered a pair of these dual-wielding, but suspect I would be losing out on alot of potential damage from Fury abilities...
Just respecced to Fury, so hunting around for some good Fury weapons btw...
I can craft these, always have nethers, and haven't made one in months, because everyone has figured out it's easier and cheaper to buy better weapons with honor. Bliizzard should dramatically drop the mat requirements for these weapons. So run AV for a day and get a better weapon.
actually, you need 20 eots markers aswell. and its hard to get 18000 honor + 20eots markers in one day. besides. not everyone wants to PvP.
Were you barking in trade at all?
Got updated recently and now has the following stats:
Damage: 128 to 239
DPS: 83.4
Red Socket
Socket Bonus: 3 Stam
Equip: Increases hit rating by 14
Equip: Increases crit rating by 21which makes it the best offhand besides the Gladiator Weaponry and the swordsmith ones. I'm kinda happy that I got that reciped :D
