4000g is the price of impatience.

Just to get more up-to-date info on here... this item came out of a new cata chest in scholazar basin. I originally came on here to see what I should do with it, but yeah...not much help. I first put it up on auction house on my particular server for 150 gold, seeing as how it's it older design now. It didnt sell. I next put it up for 80 & it sold within a couple of hours. So although you can't get nearly the amount you were once able to get for it, I'd say someone is still going to want it & pay a little something for it! Hope that helps a little more!

This has been selling for around 1000g-4000g (seen it up on my realm's AH for that much). This is one of the most sought after gem cuts out of the newly introduced WotLK world designs. Being popular among with other Str/X cuts, melee will use it for blue sockets on either PvE or PvP when other alternatives aren't available, and tanks may find a use for it as well.

For those casual jewelcrafters who found this recipe too expensive to get, there's now an alternative.

They said it wouldn't be as dependant on world drops, not that there wouldn't be any.

Any tank should take the Regal Twilight Opal (Or Shifting Twilight Opal for Druids) over a Strength Stamina. Threat has been little of an issue. Only fights like Vezax (and potentially Yogg), where DPS is extremely boosted, would threat be in danger... but a couple extra Strength won't do you a whole ton of good.

Wrong. Tanks who need red/blue gems for their shield block set have no better choice than this cut (or the epic version). Str translates into shield block value.

900-1000g on my server, which I believe is probably typical for mature servers.

Prospecting 6 stacks of Saronite Ore does NOT typically yield 7 gems. Some people are happy to get even 4 (blue quality) gems out of it. You are right about the money making though, you can easily make a lot of money from just buying Saronite Ore. Prospect and sell the gems and you'll get a nice profit.

Pally tanks use Austere Earthsiege Diamonds as a meta, which requires 1 red gem. This gem is a great way to fill a red socket when you care about the socket bonus or don't have any other way of activating you meta.

Tanks would be much better off getting dodge/sta or parry/sta for mitigation than strength/sta for its block value.

Sells around that price on my server as well, had it drop for me today from heroic UK. Actually rather happy it does go for that much, because that's more than enough for affording my epic flight training :P

Y'know, I'm honestly really tired of this. I picked up enchanting on my pally so I could enchant my rings, and levelling it was cheaper and easier than levelling JC. How many ways do we need to get screwed here? Not only do we have one, MAYBE 2 dailies we can do to get the tokens to buy our stuff (enchanters just disenchant), but there are also these lame world drop recipes. It's ridiculous. Not to mention that to get the mats for most of our higher-end crafted items, we have to sacrifice the same tokens that we use to buy recipes. This is just lame.

Of all the recipes that had to be world drop... and of all the classes and specs I had to play. I've yet to see this on my server, but I sure wish I was the first to get my hands on it. My paladin could use this right now.

Strength based dps such as fury / arms warriors and ret pallies would choose this, not tanks.

Unholy death knights as well.

Any death knight can use strength. Actually they should just gem for strength, not stam even disregarding the socket bonus.

I think, that you should socket this as a paladin tank, and use holy shield, and with some SP that's good aggro containment, and more HP, don't you think?

It's simply the best Design for a jcer. I've just dropped mine one from Titanium Lockbox but actually it can be sold for about 3000~5000g

It is a very nice cut. I am very happy to say that I bought these plans for 8g on my server... I pinched myself and yeaup... it's true.
