This is the item used to start the Quel'Delar chain quest. [s]Unkown drop location at the moment, as the glyph vendors hand it out. More than likely drops in one of the 5-Man's or off of something in the Blood Halls, considering that the Blood Queen is apart of this chain.[/s] Drops from the 5 man instances off of the trashmobs.

Stars the Quest Chain for Quel'Delar Epic started in 3.3. Same as Quel'Serrar back in Classic WoW. You'll need to be able to complete Forge of Souls, Pit of Saron, and Halls of Reflection in order to progress and complete this Quest Line. You get to choose one of several weapons upon completing the Quest Line, each different to suit the needs of each role.

This item is a low drop rate from every NPC in the new 5-Man Dungeons The Frozen Halls. This item only drops on Heroic Mode.

Rewards that you can choose from are: Quel'Delar, Might of the Faithful Quel'Delar, Ferocity of the Scorned Quel'Delar, Cunning of the Shadows Quel'Delar, Lens of the Mind Cudgel of Furious Justice Hammer of Purified Flame Lightborn Spire

Story: Quel’Delar: The Sister Blade In ages past the great Dragon Aspects worked alongside the night elves to forge powerful prismatic blades that could be used to thwart any evil that came into the world. They would become known as the blades of Quel’Serrar. One of these blades, which had become lost in time, was recently unearthed again by brave heroes of Azeroth. Now rediscovered, Quel’Serrar is revered once more as a mighty tool of raw power. Its sister blade, however, has not been seen for many years... Quel'Delar The sword known as Quel’Delar was held by the group of kaldorei who would eventully become the high elves, and it was handed down from generation to generation. Most recently Quel’Delar was wielded by the valiant high elven warrior Thalorien Dawnseeker. Thalorien fought tirelessly in the Troll Wars to defend his beloved home of Silvermoon, the Sunwell, and all of Quel’Thalas. When the Scourge swept through the lands during the Third War, Thalorien was among the last lines of defense for the Sunwell. Despite the sword’s power, he was ultimately slain by the overwhelming might of Arthas and his legendary runeblade, Frostmourne. Quel’Delar was thought to be lost forever. Following the destruction of their homeland, the determined blood elves began to regroup and rebuild. It was during this time that the battle-hardened warrior Lana’thel stumbled upon Quel’Delar, and soon afterward the greatest opportunity to use the blade presented itself: Prince Kael’thas Sunstrider raised an army and combined forces with Illidan Stormrage, who led them north to Icecrown on a mission to destroy the Lich King. Lana’thel readily followed her prince with one thought in mind -- revenge against the Scourge -- but only tragedy awaited her. Queen of the San’layn In the icy hills of Northrend, Arthas ultimately defeated Illidan and Kael’thas, and the expedition’s few survivors were scattered across the frozen wastes. One by one the Lich King sought out those who had challenged him, and Lana’thel found herself cornered. Using Quel’Delar, she struck at him with all her might... but Frostmourne’s evil powers overwhelmed her. Through his blade, the Lich King chose Lana’thel to serve him in undeath as queen of the San’layn, a group responsible for overseeing the Scourge’s operations across Azeroth. Queen Lana’thel eagerly carried out her new duties, but every time she looked at her blade, maddening anger would swell within her as she remembered her former life. She could not afford such distractions, and with a scream that echoed throughout Icecrown, she shattered Quel’Delar and flung the fractured pieces as far as she could. Now... The champions of the Alliance and the Horde who confront the Lich King’s armies have but a slim chance of finding the pieces of this fabled blade. If they succeed, the heroes can embark on an epic adventure to re-forge Quel’Delar. They will require the strongest materials and a source of great power to make this shattered blade into the fearsome weapon it once was. Several classes can use Quel’Delar, and the sword can fit several different play styles. For any class that is unable to wield it, however, the Sunreaver blood elves and the Silver Covenant high elves will gladly take this relic of their history in exchange for a usable weapon. The search begins soon...

----- GUIDE ----- Step 1) Get the battered hilt, random trash mob drop in icecrown 5mans.

Step 2) Turn it in to an npc in icecrown, just south of the argent tournament grounds.

Step 3) Starts quest "What The Dragons Know" - sends you to Krasus at the top of the Wyrmrest Temple, you have to talk to the npc at the top before the quest completes. Then you turn it in to Magister Hathorel inside your Horde/Alliance area in Dalaran.

Step 4) NPC sends you to underbelly and find a Silver Covenant agent, and kill him and search the body for Orders. The underbelly is the dalaran sewers. I located the agent standing in front of the sewers innkeeper. Upon leaving the sewers another agent ambushed me and netted me down.

Step 5) Turned in orders back at the NPC you got this quest from; The next part hsa you get a Borrowed Tabard from Shandy Glossgleam. He is located on the balcony above the Threads of Fate shop. The problem is only one person can use him at a time, you can talk to him when he is free and start a mini-event to help him do his laundry. Simply stand back and click the item he calls out, pants/shirt/unmentionables/water. When you do about 10 things for his laundry list, he will drop a bag next to the tub containing the tabard you need.

Step 6) Return with the tabard to the npc in your horde/alliance inn. You now become disguised from 5 MINUTES From accepting the quest.

Step 7) You have 5 minutes with the disguise (if it wears off, the npc can renew it). As a horde I had to go to the silver enclaive and talk to an npc, the tabard kept the guards from teleporting me out. Talk to the npc att the top and get the book you need, then get out before the disguise wears off. Sadly this is the most epic disguise you might ever wear as a horde, and its only for 5 minutes...

Step 8) With the book of blades in hand, go back to your npc at the inn. Now the next pat has you deliver the book to Myraion Sunblade. He is at Quel'Delar's Rest, south of the Argent Tournament grounds where this all began.

Step 9) Turn it in and enjoy the show! (Make sure your sound is on!) - The Blood-Queen Lana'thel finally shows herself.

Step 10) You are now on Reforging The Sword: You now must get 5 Infused Saronite Bars from the Pit of Saron 5man in Icecrown Citadel. You must gather bars and capture the forgemaster's hammer, then bring them to the forgemaster's anvil to reforge the sword. The bars are located all over near the slaves, there are enough of them around the entrance where even after you cleared the instance you can go back and grab them. The hammer drops off the giant forgemaster, and you can forge your sword at the anvils all around him. Go outside the instance and turnin the quest at the npc outside the icecrown 5mans, he is also there.

Step 11) Next you go to the Forge of Souls, go to the very end at the last boss, kill him, and forge your sword. That simple. Exit forge of souls, turnin quest again at the npc outside the 5mans. Now into the halls of reflection.

Step 12) This is it, the big shabang. Use your sword at the beginning of the instance, Uther The Lightbringer will be waiting and start screaming at you for the mistake your making. Defeat the essence of the sword when it attacks you, then loot it. Zone out and turn it in again.

Step 13) Head to sunwell aisle, talk to the npc at the entrance to the plateau. He will tell you to go get your blessing to use the weapon. Head to the south end of the Dead Scar on the isle of Quel'Danas, and then head up into the scar about 50 yards. Click the corpse, enjoy the speech, then DEFEND HIM. You must keep the npc alive. You CAN buff and heal him, even bandage him. Two waves of level 80 adds spawn, their easy to aoe and let him tank/aoe. Then a 3rd wave of three 18k hp spiders spawn, take them out. Finally the boss standing nearby watching, becomes attackable. Just blow all cooldowns and nuke him, hes an elite with 37k hp, easily soloed.

Step 14) Follow your map, back to the npc at the entrance of the sunwell plateau and turnin the quest after you have the ghost's blessing.

Step 15) Turnin your quest, then grab the next. Now your ready to win the game. Talk to the warden at the sunwell entrance to have him personally enter and escort you in. You are now in one of the coolest rooms in any dungeon int he game! Travel down the hill through the Shrine of the Eclipse and to the bottom. Once you are at the bottom, stand next to teh beam of the sunwell, and use your blade. Your sword will be restored and will appear as a lootable item around one of the sides of the sunwell. During the process, one of the guards might become a little.. scared.. and attack you, but you'll remain relatively unharmed. (NOTE: Turn on your game music, it gets pretty epic).

Step 16) Take the nearby portal in that room to dalaran with your newfound weapon. Well, you don't have to, but you need to go back to ice crown. Go back to the rest just south of the argent tournament grounds.

Step 17) Your done! Grab the quest and head to dalaran and get your newfound weapon! CONGRATULATIONS! You win the internet!

Heres a super useful tip for everyone. If you find yourself with the other factions version of this by whatever means, if get it onto the other factions side (through neutral AH), simply mail it to another character on your account from the same faction and it will turn it to the other factions version.

evanbloom+0via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

Caution: if you decide to just waltz through these quests and instances at 90, you might hit the "too many instances recently" limit and have to wait until you continue. It happened to me before going into HoR for step 12.

Here's an interesting Question: Does this only drop if you get into one of the 3 ICC Dungeons randomly or can you specifically queue for them and have it drop still? I know that on The Oculus theBlue Drake will only drop if you are randomly queued for it in Heroic mode. EDIT: Answer- This does not require you do be randomly placed into a Heroic of any of these Dungeons. You may specifically queue for any Heroic ICC Dungeon and this still has a chance of dropping. I'll leave my original question posted.

Nakenroffe+0via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

it does drop from hc if you enter the instance from the entrance, did the achievement Soul Power at Bronjahm on my mage by myself and got it from the last mobs called Spectral Warden before the last boss in Forge of Souls (wanna add that the mob is not listed for dropping it)

Graywind+27via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

I 100% agree. I have seen this drop twice since the patch, once on patch day and once again yesterday, 23/12/09. And both times the person who wone it said, i can't wait to sell this on the AH. This needs to be fixed and fast. Bliz don't like people buying gold, but i think some people will take the risk as the price of this keeps going up. On my server i see people begging in dal to buy it. Bliz should just turn this in to a drop that anyone can geat easy, that way people who want it will have it. And no more ninjas.

When an item drops in a group run, each member effectively wins a 20% chance to get said item. There is no, "You already have one" rule on non-unique items. It's only your greed that encourages you to try to look for a reason to pretend that a member of your group isn't entitled to his/her 20% chance.

An important question: Is this repeatable? I would like both the DPS and the caster mace.

You can downrank me once I'm answered.

Edit: [ul] [li]@Marconius: That may be true but there are items like Waterlogged Recipe and Sealed Vial of Poison that start quests, but they are infinitely repeatable.[/li] [li]@swmmr58: Thanks for telling all of us that useful piece of information.[/li] [/ul]

Marconius+6via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

Haven't actually tried, but all quests that aren't specifically marked repeatable or daily (with a few exceptions, likely the weekly raid quests) can only be done once. So if you managed to get a second hilt, it'd most likely say "You have already completed this quest".

100422+5via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

Then why do the one handed, or the two handed for that matter(Titan's Grip), versions not have a unique tag on them? It may not be repeatable, but if that is the case they probably should have labeled the weapons as unique to clarify the matter.

302239+0via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

Thank God that's not the case, A mob off the 4th wave in HoR dropped one, then the wave 5 boss Falric dropped one, along with the tanking axe, that I needed as well. We weren't even done saying gratz to the guy that won the first one when we looted the 2nd.

How to get your Quel'delar

There is no magic way of getting this item, there's no secret password that makes it instantly drop. Though there are ways for you to up your chances in getting it.

The armory lists the Battered Hilt to have an "Extremely Low (1% - 2%)" drop chance. This is from all mobs on heroic difficulty in Forge of Souls, Pit of Saron and Halls of Reflection. This includes the 10 waves of mobs during the first encounter in Halls of Reflection.

So the way we are going to up our chances in acquiring the Battered Hilt is, simply to, wipe countless times on Falric. Failing to complete the encounter with Falric will lead to the whole encounter resetting. Thus you have to fight the first 5 waves once more, and as i mentioned earlier theese 5 waves have a chance of dropping the Battered Hilt. Each wave consists of 3-5 mobs, and a total of 15 mobs for the first 5 waves.

There are 4 possible scenarios to this tactic, a nightmare scenario, two realistic scenarios and ofcourse a dream scenario.

[ul] [li]Nightmare scenario - You never get it, simple as that.[/li] [li]Realistic scenario A - 1% drop chance which means you'd have to kill 688 mobs for a 99.99% certainty of a drop. This would theoritically mean that you have to wipe and re-do the encounter 46 times per drop. Which totals up to 230 wipes if your whole party wants the hilt.[/li] [li]Realistic scenario B - 2% drop chance which means you'd have to kill 344 mobs for a 99.99% certainty of a drop. This would theoritically mean that you have to wipe and re-do the encounter 23 times per drop. Which totals up to 115 wipes if your whole party wants the hilt.[/li] [li]Dream scenario - You all get it on the first clear.[/li] [/ul]

So the best way to acquire/farm for the Battered Hilt is simply to wipe over and over again on Falric allowing you to clear the first 5 waves of mobs again. Now ofcourse this is going to cost you some money in repair bills, but it's a ton cheaper than buying one off the AH for up to 20,000 gold (yes i've seen them go for that much).

Good luck in finding your Battered Hilt, i have yet to find mine!

P.S. I never ever in here say that any of the scenarios is a gauranteed drop. I've accounted for the different type of scenarios and presented the amount of kills/wipes you would need in order to get a 99.99% certainty of a drop, 99.99% is not 100% Edit: Don't do math when you're tired. - Thanks Ciar for noticing.

310422+25via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

Yet again, 1% drop chance doesn't mean it drops if you kill 100 mobs, or 2% that you need to kill 50 mobs to get it. The probability goes as follows: How many times do you need to kill that at least one drops with 99,9% certainty, when there's a 1% drop chance? 1-(n^x) where n is the chance that it won't drop (i.e. 99%=0.99=n) and x is how many mobs you kill. To convert this to a pattern that tells the x when the chance of at least one dropping (99,9% certainty) is
1-0.99^x>0.999 <=> -0.999 > 0.99^x-1 <=> 0.001 > 0.99^x || log <=> log 0.001 > x log 0.99 (-0.0043648054) x > -

I love these discussions. I'm becoming a mechanical engineer at a uni IRL atm, and this maths easily beats most students. I mean, it's not really hard, but still, to have the willpower to do it for fun... Keep it up, guys!

Kilsek+4via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

You can only complete this quest once on a toon. Just like many of the other quest lines out there that come from drops. Would it be nice? Yes. But from a lore point of view it wouldn't make sense to reforge the sword twice.

Rahkitty-2via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

I'm not sure why wowhead is listing this as only dropping from certain mobs. I saw mine drop from trash in heroic Halls of Reflection, I've heard of it dropping from Pit of Saron, and people here are saying Forge of Souls too. So I'm pretty sure it's safe to say it drops from any mob in any of those three dungeons.

Meggie+5via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

For players there is no difference between "random drops" and "controlled drops". While most drops seem to be "random", Blizzard likes us to think everything is "random". This saves them the straining job to defend their continued tampering with the loot system.

Reunilana-5via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

So far i done 42 heroic runs (counting alts) and i havent seen a single hilt droping. So i my personal option the droprate is 50 heroic runs per hilt. But as the poster above i suggest you farm Halls because you wont run out of mobs.
