At some point in time, you get tired of using your main for auctioning. Too much stuff cluttering the mailbox and ah, so we make "bank toons". Some do so to say "I'm rich", others do so simply for organizing. No matter why you FIRST made it, you end up sick of him looking like the scrawny zombie or naked cow, and level 1 items either have very low drop rates or cost a pretty penny just from a vendor. There is a quest that gives 4 items; athough 1 can't be traded, but you have to be level 83 for it (I really need to learn to link, any suggestions where to go, what to look for would help). Even in that reward though the only truly useful thing is the gem studded bracelets. There is a vendor; though the name escapes me, in Booty Bay that sells 4-5 Limited Quantity items, somewhat like Harris Pilton, and even has 1 of the same item I believe. These are VERY expensive...for anyone really. To drop 20k at a vendor for some stuff is; even in my world, a little over the top, but some; just as in life, have to do it. That said, I'm a tailor and I want the tophat dammit. Implement it NOW:)......and I want to use it with the monocle....... You don't have to have much interest in roleplaying to do this either. Though the more demand = higher price, so RP server's are gonna eat this up. So if your a JC and wondering why, that's why. To find out how your economy is, do a search in AH under armor, headgear, with level 1-1 item filter, and see what all is listed and prices (junk and weapons do same if you want) and you'll get an idea of if it's worth it to make. Otherwise watch trade and respond when someone wants it, because they have the gold to spend on it. Good Luck

Obviously im a bit late to the party here, but if you want a top hat, just level a worgen from 1-15 or so, if your ally, just keep it as your bank toon, if your horde, faction change it to w/e race you like as horde and the top hat you receive from the end questline as a worgen will remain in your bags. My warrior race changed from a worgen early on, and has kept his top hat since then. That feeling you get from walking around as a troll with a top hat is priceless.

There are four (Ultra) rare recipes in Cataclysm that teaches Jewelcrafters how to make awesome headgear. They are highly sought for vanity reasons and are very likely to fetch a nice price in the Auction House:
[ul] [li][item=52487][/li] [li][item=52486][/li] [li][item=52485][/li] [li][item=52489][/li] [/ul]
I compiled several other information that I could gather from all of the comments in the itens and recipes' pages:
[ul] [li]They can't be transmogged as of Patch 7.0.3.[/li] [/ul]
[small]Original Commenter: Saevenar (Patch 7.0.1): "This item -does not- work with the new transmog system as of 7.0.3" - at [item=52485] page.[/small]
[ul] [li]They are a rare World Drop from Cata and MoP (and can drop from almost any creature).[/li] [li]They can only drop for Jewelcrafters ***[/li][/li] [li]The Drop Rate is ~0,01% and is a bit higher on Cata creatures.[/li] [/ul]
[small]Original Commenter: illostos (Patch 5.0.5): "I spoke with a GM a few minutes ago and he told me this: - This pattern is a worlddrop and can drop from every mob in Cata and MoP. - The Chance in Cata is a bit higher than in MOP, maybe because it was implemented in Patch 4.3. - The Chance is aprox. 0,01% and can only drop for Jewelcrafters. - It can drop realy from every monster" - at [item=71965] page.[/small]
*** There is a solitary comment claming a recipe drop in a non-Jewelcrafter char:
[small]Original Commenter: vitreous (Patch 5.3.0) "Yup, it dropped for my non-JC hunter in Uldum a couple of months back" - at [item=52495] page.[/small]
[ul] [li]All those itens are throwbacks to the old [item=38089].[/li] [/ul]
It used to cost some thousands gold when it was added in TBC. Its price got reduced to coppers shortly before it was removed, some time in Wotlk.
[ul] [li]While they can't be transmogged, there are no level restrictions nor any status gains.[/li] [/ul]
They can - and most likely will only - be used to pimp your AH lvl1 alts with the coolest gear.

The patterns (designs) for the all the jeweler's monocles and the Rhinestone Sunglasses are BoE now, so it is possible to obtain the patterns on the AH (for an exorbitant amount of gold, probably). The monocles and sunglasses themselves are now transmoggable cosmetic items. This comes with patch 10.0.5 in which white and grey items are now transmoggable.

This dropped for me from a trash mob in Firelands. Couldn't say what specifically, since mass looting and all...only mentioning it because at the time of this comment, nothing from Firelands is listed on the drop table for this design.

It dropped today on my LW/Skinning Druid while farming Volatile Fires as [item=52494]. The mob in question is [npc=48016] As far as I know, patch 10.0 will allow us to transmog white gear, so it should go up in price. Have it listed on AH (For a very gorgeous amount of gold) and hoping a collector/goblin comes across it. According to Undermine Journal, only 47 in the entire EU are listed. Pretty rare. Don't have my rarity set for it, but I have 15+ hours at that spot farming volatiles. Still drops as of 9.2.5

2nd monocle pattern to drop for me. Dropped from Jalak-Doom on my 1,443rd kill. Average so far is one in 700 WB kill (extreme variability of course).

3rd monocle (2nd ruby) dropped after the 2,534th kill from Akma'hat. 4th monocle (3rd ruby) dropped after the 2,714th kill from Garr. Note that I didn't even have cata JC or JC even learned, so they will drop for non profession guys as well. 8th monocle (4th ruby) dropped after the 4,578th kill from Akam'hat.

The drop rate for all of the Cataclysm monocle designs and rare patterns was GREATLY increased in a stealth update after 10.0.5, then it appears the odds went back to normal in 10.0.7 In about 250 kills after the 10.0.5 patch I obtained: 3x [item=52496] 5x [item=52495] 5x [item=52494] 3x [item=67541] 2x [item=71965] A stealth update hit them again around 10.0.7 and since then I have seen just a single Monocle design in over 200 kills. There are now a few people on each server that can make these. I think that is what Blizzard intended.
