This thing sells for 2300g on my server, with my alchemist I have tons of volatile, I did the math, and if I bought all the mats off AH, id have about 1200g profit, off it, I have sold about 3 so far, pure profit, because i did not buy a single mats all my mats.

Nothing is never free to craft if it requieres time or materials. If you are using your own materials to craft something then the cost of the craft would be the amount of money you would have received if you had sold these mats. Always, always take this into account when calculating profitability.

Does anyone know if this will only drop for Jewelcrafters, or will it drop for anyone? I'd assume the latter, since people talk of selling it, but I'd like to know before I waste my time farming it with a toon that isn't a JC.

There are four (Ultra) rare recipes in Cataclysm that teaches Jewelcrafters how to make awesome headgear. They are highly sought for vanity reasons and are very likely to fetch a nice price in the Auction House:
[ul] [li][item=52487][/li] [li][item=52486][/li] [li][item=52485][/li] [li][item=52489][/li] [/ul]
I compiled several other information that I could gather from all of the comments in the itens and recipes' pages:
[ul] [li]They can't be transmogged as of Patch 7.0.3.[/li] [/ul]
[small]Original Commenter: Saevenar (Patch 7.0.1): "This item -does not- work with the new transmog system as of 7.0.3" - at [item=52485] page.[/small]
[ul] [li]They are a rare World Drop from Cata and MoP (and can drop from almost any creature).[/li] [li]They can only drop for Jewelcrafters ***[/li][/li] [li]The Drop Rate is ~0,01% and is a bit higher on Cata creatures.[/li] [/ul]
[small]Original Commenter: illostos (Patch 5.0.5): "I spoke with a GM a few minutes ago and he told me this: - This pattern is a worlddrop and can drop from every mob in Cata and MoP. - The Chance in Cata is a bit higher than in MOP, maybe because it was implemented in Patch 4.3. - The Chance is aprox. 0,01% and can only drop for Jewelcrafters. - It can drop realy from every monster" - at [item=71965] page.[/small]
*** There is a solitary comment claming a recipe drop in a non-Jewelcrafter char:
[small]Original Commenter: vitreous (Patch 5.3.0) "Yup, it dropped for my non-JC hunter in Uldum a couple of months back" - at [item=52495] page.[/small]
[ul] [li]All those itens are throwbacks to the old [item=38089].[/li] [/ul]
It used to cost some thousands gold when it was added in TBC. Its price got reduced to coppers shortly before it was removed, some time in Wotlk.
[ul] [li]While they can't be transmogged, there are no level restrictions nor any status gains.[/li] [/ul]
They can - and most likely will only - be used to pimp your AH lvl1 alts with the coolest gear.

The patterns (designs) for the all the jeweler's monocles and the Rhinestone Sunglasses are BoE now, so it is possible to obtain the patterns on the AH (for an exorbitant amount of gold, probably). The monocles and sunglasses themselves are now transmoggable cosmetic items. This comes with patch 10.0.5 in which white and grey items are now transmoggable.

The drop rate for all of the Cataclysm monocle designs and rare patterns was GREATLY increased in a stealth update after 10.0.5, and then it appears the odds returned back to normal in 10.0.7 In about 250 kills after the 10.0.5 patch I obtained: 3x [item=52496] 5x [item=52495] 5x [item=52494] 3x [item=67541] 2x [item=71965] A stealth update hit them again around 10.0.7 and since then I have seen just a single Monocle design in over 200 kills. There are now a few people on each server that can make these. I think that is what Blizzard intended.
