sadly the art department was too busy designing mounts to sell in the store, so they forgot to design the dam gun and looks like just re-branded it into a crossbow.

@ Dwarfageddon: You say that as if Blizzard has never used the same model for multiple items.

funny thing is they never designed a pve gun model for firelands.

Honestly it just seems like systematic Dwarf racism at this point, as the last tier's gun was a tank's smallest-slot-in-the-game stat-stick. When the Trollroics came out we saw the return of the Dwarf Destroyer and how it both was and wasn't ironic, being another tank weapon it destroys the hope that it'd be a proper hunter gun Dwarves could use to destroy people with. They seemed to just forget that Tuskbreaker looked a hell of a lot better than things like Mandokir's dignity-free &*!@#$-thing. I actually find that having to mute my sound because of the weapon I'm using is kind of a setback. So I for one is glad for the Crossbow change.. Besides, everyone likes Crossbows!

Hooray, it's much better as a Crossbow. Now it's of equal worth for all Hunters with no racials coming into play.

Hate to mention this, but Troll's have Bow Specialization [spell=26290], so as of right now there are lots of weapons for Trolls to use their racial, but Dwarfs have to use a PvP weapon to benefit from theirs.

That would be a great argument if the only hunter weapons from Firelands were crossbows. But [item=71353] drops from Ragnaros, which trolls will love. Dwarves are out of luck.

To upgrade this weapon to its heroic version, you must have a [item=71617] and the regular version of the item, then you can buy the heroic version from the Valor Points vendor.

Fun fact: When fired, this crossbow still sounds like a gun. Winning.

Made for some hilarious moments in my trash run. Made sure i was the only hunter in case this dropped, it did, i equipped it... next pull 'BANG BANG BOOM BANG'. First thought was 'i didnt notice the other hunter had a gun before...' but then i realized i was the only hunter. >.>

This is pretty annoying, too. I enjoy crossbows and bows due to the fact that I don't have to listen to the annoying BANG! POW! I was disappointed when I started firing this.

Word on the street is that this has haste, not mastery, and as a result of the tooltip not matching the actual stats, can't be reforged.

Someone on my realm put it up on AH for 500g.... think they forgot a few zeros. :)

To clarify, it actually has 88 Crit and 81 haste. I linked in my guild, and various other people, some people are seeing it as Crit/Haste and some are seeing as Crit/Mastery. I deleted my Cache folder and it still did not change, so I don't know why some people see Crit/Haste and some see Crit/Mastery with the same game version. Just picked one up after sadly losing the trash drop belt to another hunter that promptly left the run after he got it....gotta start doing guild only runs soon. Put it on and like another poster was shocked when a gun fire went off....So they changed the name and skin from the original gun to a xbow and dont change the sound? What gives...overall though VERY nice weapon.

Not only does the xbow make a gun sound, but it is giving me haste instead of mastery.. the site says haste but the item description in game shows mastery, and I cant reforge anything into mastery :(

As I got my ticket answered I thought to share some light on the subject... Devs are aware of the bugs in [url=http://www.wowhead.com/item=71366]Lava Bolt Crossbow[/url] and it will be fixed as soon as possible. Hopefully in the next hotfix. [i]Crit rating[/i] in this weapon [b]CAN[/b] be reforged even now. It's only [i]Mastery[/i] (ingame version atm) that cannot. There's also gonna be a [i]thwang[/i] instead of a [i]bang[/i] as the sound will be fixed too.

I should've clarified that I cant reforge anything into mastery, yes you can reforge the crit but NOT into mastery :( hopefully the hotfix is soon

The mastery rating is actually haste, that's why can't reforge it, try unequiping it and look at your stats.

I had an conversation with a GM about [item=71366]'s gun sound. He told me that the developer team were aware of this issue and they will hopefully resolve it soon.

With 4.2.2 client patch this still sounds like a gun. Maybe 4.3?

Lavabolt Crossbow sounds like a gun when fired. This is a known issue as noted in the [url=http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/3082032335]4.2.2 Known Issues[/url] post on the World of Warcraft Bug Report forum. Looks like they plan on fixing it soon™

Yeah, this 'crossbow' definitely makes a gun sound. Also, I can confirm the mastery IS haste. When I unequip the weapon my mastery stays the same but my haste goes down 75.

If you really can't handle the gun sound use this addon. It make it sound like a silenced M4-A1. I haven't tried it 4.2 but i think you have to do the manual install instructions. Wowhead is currently listing buyout price on this as "299 gold". Don't get too excited. In my realm (Garona), there is currently only one of these in the AH for a price of 23,222 gold. Maybe Wowhead just dropped two digits off of the "actual retail value" for the item.

Blizz, Fix the retarded gun sound of this Xbow... I already have to live with it looking like the Starship Enterprise... fix it pretty plox. Tyvm

Just aquired this AWESOME baby today! And, STILL sounds like a darn gun, too :( It's the constant noise that bothers me, a bow should sound like a bow. I wish they'd seriously fix this, it is is (by far) the coolest thing I've obtained (at least, to me) in the game, yet it gives me a freaking headache :/ I know I could turn the sound down/off, but, then I wouldn't be able to hear anything else. Maybe, it will (eventually) get fixed..?

Changing sound on a weapon (rifle or bow) is trivial, just a matter of swapping sound files. I replaced all my gun sounds with a "silenced gun" sound, very elegant, very nice. Can't remember where I found the sound file and instructions (Curse?), but it was trivial. Ah, here: wowinterface, "gunsilencesuppressor" (do a search).

Did the droprate of this bow rise? I've seen so many more on the AH lately, and I'd never seen them in our AH before. I'm glad, though, because now I can finally have one. (It'll probably drop now that I bought it next time my guild does FL..)

You see more on the AH because firelands became soloable for many level 90 classes with patch 6.0.2 Go to Firelands on any Tuesday now and the portal is jammin.

Anyone other hunters notice they're not being yelled at for using a gun because Blizz nerfed the sound effect? Its not offensive to the ears anymore!

I was always fond of the gun sound effect, and chose to use them whenever I could.

I love the visual of this crossbow, however the way it sits on a Blood Elf Female's back when not in use is a bit off putting. Not sure about other races, but on a BE Female, it awkwardly hovers away from the character a good distance. I've submitted a screenshot showing how this looks.
