Which is incorrect, because you can use a polearm sold in Storm Peaks that is grey and statless for transmog.

SoCalWoWGal is correct in general - the vast majority of transmogrifiable items adhere to that rule. There are only a handful of exceptions to this, such as the Brunnhildar weapons that you are referencing, the Straw Hat from Valley of the Four Winds, and the Darkmoon Faire items which are intended for transmog.
