It CAN proc on elixirs of ANY level. I'm assuming this because it proced x5 on Elixir of Minor Fortitude so if it can proc on such low items than it can probably proc on anything.

I just unlearned my xmute mastery for the price of 150G from the xmute mastery trainer. I was expecting to have to do the quests to become a potion master, but in fact I did not. So once you learn a mastery, no more mastery questing. But the 150G pricetag is no light weight. And don't be a noob like me. After unlearning my xmute mastery, I accidentally relearned the exact same mastery. So I had to fork out another 150G to unlearn it a 2nd time. There is no pop-up "are you sure" box for learning your new mastery. There is for unlearning, but not for relearning. So be careful.

None of the alchemy specialisations works for Warlords of Draenor Alchemy. They still work on old world content.


Legion Edit (28th August 2016): Just like in WoD, Alchemy specialisations do not work for Legion recipes. However, with Legion there are several recipes ranks that will make some crafts cost less reagents, or even have a chance to yield additional items (Like the how the specialisations used to work pre-WoD). Battle for Azeroth edit (Super late I know): Like in the past 2 expansions, alchemy specialisations do not work with BfA recipes, but just like in legion each craft has its unique rank system that make the recipe work like the old specialisations at rank 3. Likely won't ever see alchemy specialisations make a comeback for new recipes

I procced elixirs of demonslaying and mongoose, so - you can proc any elixir. And ofc some newbs downrated my cooment on that elixir mastery can proc any elixir : (

In my experience it's "About" 1 extra every 3-5.

As of 4.3.0, Transmutation Master, Potion Master and Elixir Master now have different requirements to learn/change your specialization.

Instead of paying 150 gold to change, it is now changed to 450 gold.

Bring the requested materials to an alchemy trainer in any capital city.

Transmutation Master
Requirement:
* Truegold x 4

Potion Master
Requirement:
* Mythical Healing Potion x 6
* Mythical Mana Potion x 6
* Potion of Treasure Finding x 2

Elixir Master
Requirement:
* Flask of the Draconic Mind x 2

Yes, I must revoke my "Gray Elixirs" statement. It seems the proc chance is just extremely small.

I just made 20 Elixirs of Greater Agility which are grey at 375, and got three x2 procs and one x3 proc.

Actually Elixir Mastery can proc on Flasks too.

Elixir Master ONLY procs on Elixirs and Potion Master ONLY procs on Potions.

Since it hasn't been mentioned - be aware that the requirements for switching to Elixir Master require the new Flasks:

With the rarity of Golden Lotus, this can be an expensive switch, especially if you haven't already learned the recipes. Sure, gold is easy to come by these days, but you are depending on AH availability or learning it randomly.

For anybody wondering if it still works in shadowlands. Nope! sadly not.

You don't need to retrain Alchemy. Simply go to the mastery questgiver for the mastery you have (for elixir mastery, this is the arakkoa in Shattrath) Pay him 150g to unlearn your mastery. Then simply go to the mastery questgiver for the mastery you would like to learn, and they will train you in your new mastery - no additional fee incurred.

Alchemy Specialization Changes in 5.0.5

In Mist of Pandaria - How to obtain a new Alchemy Specialization has Changed.
Before Selecting a new Specialization, you must first get rid of your old one. To do so, Open up your professions tab and beside your alchemy specialization icon, there will be a RED Cross out symbol (Just like dropping an actual profession).
All you do is hit that to unlearn your current specialization.

Once you have done that, the alchemy trainer in Stormwind City or Orgrimmar will open up the 3 quest below. Pick one and bring back the required items and you have a new Alchemy Specialization! Choose carefully, the mats turn in are not cheap !

To learn an alchemy mastery you will have to do a quest. Lilyssia Nightbreeze is the Alliance quest giver and Yelmak is the Horde quest giver. All quests have been upgraded to Cataclysm ingredients.

Elixir Master
Potion Master
Transmutation Master

If you want to switch mastery you can talk to the quest giver to unlearn your current mastery. You will then have to perform another one of the three quests listed above to learn a new mastery.

Discoveries are not tied to Specs - you can change your spec or have no spec at all and still retain your "Flask of Mighty Restoration" or other discovered crafts.

A quick heads up for those coming here in Legion. Elixir master does not work for Legion flasks.

370 Alchemy at the moment, and got a 2x and 4x proc off Greater Arcane Elixirs which are not only grey but a pre BC recipe. I was under the impression that this only procced off BC recipes. I guess i was wrong.

I think that going to trans master wont give you the expected wealth. Just think the proc rate or the pots-elixrs and add up the Cooldown of the transmutes. Summing up, elixir master will make 20 agility pots in 1 minute and gain aprox +3-6 more.(my server price 15-30 gold PURE profite) A trans Master will transmute for Eg a primal might for a charge or himself, and have to wait at least 5 days to have a chance to get one extra. If you are counting in all crafted elixirs for sallary, then you should do the same with transmute. So 5-day transmuting gives 5x90 + 90 = 540 gold. Transmute mastery, however, still sucks compared to elixirs mastery in question of profit. Less to say in question of raiding.

I've been making flasks daily for a few weeks now, I occasionally will get a x2 proc, and that's the only proc I seem to see, but today I saw my very first x5 proc. It seems that the proc rate has been substantially nerfed.

These quests can only be picked up in regular cities. Don't bother looking in Dalaran for any of the these master quests. Only typical cities, like Orgrimmar, Stormwind, etc.

Procced on "Elixir of Defense" when I had 450 alchemy, so its definately not impossible on grey items. I wanted to make 5, and I got one extra. A nice surprise.

correct. being an elixir master does not mean that you cannot learn new potions and/or transmutes, it just means that it won't proc extras fot those items.

I made 10 major agility and got proc for 1 extra and then for 2 extra, so 3 extra from 10 makes. 2 procs out of 10 (20%) is far from being extremely low. I haven't tried with flasks yet, but the one which procced most was Elixir of Draenic Wisdom. One time it procced 4 out of 10 makes. Hard to tell if this or that alixir has higher chance, just accept that it can *sometimes* proc.

Yes, it does proc for Northrend recipes.
On an odd side note though, I went leveling alchemy today, and somehow ended up with a flask, that i don't have a recipe with....
Random freebie byproduct proc maybe?
Got the HP flask, and noticed it, when i was level 419, and its a 435 recipe..... lol

Vial of the Sands is not a flask or an elixir. It does not fall into any of the mastery categories. This is quite intentional.

What is the exact proc rate?

I actually dropped skinning for alchemy figuring it would be a great get rich quick scheme, since I love playing the Auction House. After looking over statistics, there is a general estimate here that there is about a 20% proc rate, and on these procs 1-4 extra elixirs or flasks are produced.

Now, I was lucky enough to discover the flask of relentless assault, and figured my wealth would be assured (on average, I would be getting an extra 2 flasks for every 5 I made, which on my realm means 80g a day if I only made 5 each day, with average luck).

HOWEVER, I am quite confident that there is a greatly reduced proc rate on Flasks compared to elixirs. Prior to discovering the Flask, I made Elixirs of Major Agility, and found that the estimated proc rates were about correct. However, in the last 50+ Flasks of Relentless Assault I have made, I have found there is about a 10% proc rate, and only 1-2 extra are made each time. Never seen any more than this. In other words, I make about 20g a day off this, with average luck, if I'm paying close attention to the market and buying when prices are low.

/sigh. Don't think it's a guaranteed money maker, is I suppose what I'm trying to say.

This is not true. I'm an elixir master, and I create about 200 flasks a week. I've procced 2, and I've procced 5, its just a numbers game. You have a small percentage to get a 2nd flask on 1 mixing. That 2nd flask has the same chance, so however rare it is for you to get a 2nd flask, it will be even MORE rare to get a third flask. Let's say the chance of getting a bonus proc on a flask is 1/7 (procs are a 15% chance), then think of it this way; Every 7th flask or elixir you make produces 1 bonus proc. Every 49th flask or elixir you make produces 2 bonus procs. Every 343rd flask or elix

Is it me or does this NEVER have a chance to make more than one of anything now? I still have this mastery but I haven't gotten any extra flasks from this since cata.

Creating 50 flasks today yielded me 4 extra.

Maybe I'm just very unlucky or it has been brought down closer to 10%.
