The following gems can be transmuted by an Alchemist without a cooldown. The link is to a blue post confirming what Alchemists on the PTR are experiencing. I have xmuted dozens in a row and the lack of CD is not a bug. So, expect the epic gems to come more into a reasonable line as far as prices go after a few weeks of the patch.

(6/30/09) Build 10048: The 20 hour CD has been placed on epic xmutes and significant changes have been made to the materials required. The information below has been updated as of the stated build.

(8/6/08) Live Patch 3.2.0: Changed the Eye of Zul requirements to reflect the state which the patch was taken live.

Transmutable gems in 3.2.0 and the required materials:

  1. Cardinal Ruby: 1 Scarlet Ruby and 1 Eternal Fire instead of 3 Eye of Zul

  2. Majestic Zircon: 1 Sky Sapphire and 1 Eternal Air instead of 3 Sky Sapphire

  3. King's Amber: 1 Autumn's Glow and 1 Eternal Life instead of 1 Majestic Zircon and 2 Eternal Life

  4. Dreadstone: 1 Twilight Opal and 1 Eternal Shadow instead of 3 Twilight Opal

  5. Eye of Zul:3 Forest Emerald

  6. Ametrine: 1 Monarch Topaz and 1 Eternal Shadow instead of 1 Majestic Zircon and 2 Eternal Shadow

As of patch 4.0.1, the cooldown for epic gem transmutes resets at midnight, server time, regardless of when you perform the spell. This effectively makes the CD a static 24 hours, but allows you to perform it anytime during your day.

I'd say they share the same cooldown that eternals and metals do, so you'll only be able to make one epic gem every 20hrs (barring procs). The fact that a JC sitting on a mountian of ore can crap out dozens of epic gems as fast as he can click, with no cooldown on prospecting is OP, but that is nothing new to JC.

Hi.

I am lvl 71 and Transmute Master and have lvl 450 in Alchemy.

I have got the quest Cardinal Ruby, but how can I make the quest, when I dont have the other transmute recipes?

Linzy dont teach how to transmute Kings Amber, Ametrine etc, as I can read, he should do.

I have been at the alchemy trainer in Venegance Howling too, he also dont teach them.

So where do I get the transmute recipes, so I can do the quest?

Kind regards RagDolly.

Well they're certainly not superior to me. Eternal fires and scarlet rubies are far too expensive for me to consider transmuting this gem (compared to the profit I can make from transmuting the other epic gems). Always remember to check out the auction house frequently so you know how popular certain gems really are.

I'm afraid to say this is not a bug, but an intended change in patch 4.0.1. I spoke to a GM today and he told me they removed the ability to learn the other epic gem transmutes with the patch. However, he told me it is still possible to get the Transmute: Cardinal Ruby through the quest. However, what the poor GM fails to remember, you can not complete the quest without having atleast one of the epic gem transmute recipes. I have made a new ticket about this and will update my post accordingly. Edit: Spoke to a 2nd GM, this time the GM gave me the untrainable transmutes... Seems the first GM

This is a bug indeed. I wrote a ticket yesterday and got the epic transmutes today, so i can finally complete the Cardinal Ruby quest. The GM didn't tell anything about fixing this issue, so i guess everyone, who has reached skill level 450 in alchemy MUST contact a GM to get the transmutes :/

The 3 x ? item currently shown on wowhead represents 3 epic quality green gems, which are made from 3 forest emeralds.

This effectively means epic quality red gems are made from 9 blue quality green gems.

Edit: Unlike the other epic gem transmutes, this one involves a quest from the alchemy trainer to learn. The quest simply asks you to do 5 epic gem transmutes - they can be 5 of the same one, or different ones; it doesn't matter.

Confirmed, lvl 80 with 449 Alchemy doesn't see quest, lvl 80 at 450 alchemy does see quest. But does anyone know what character level you need? 70, 75, 80? I have several 70+ alchies at 450, but need to know if I should get to work leveling them in time for 3.2 :D

A quick summary of current facts.

450 Alchemy is required.
Player level is not relevant, but the level requirement for Grand Master is 65.
Transmutes for gems have no cooldown.
The mat cost for one Cardinal Ruby:

3 Forest Emeralds = 1 Eye of Zul
3 Eye of Zul = 1 Cardinal Ruby

(subject to change)

  • Transmute: Cardinal Ruby now requires 1 x Scarlet Ruby and 1 x Eternal Fire
  • Transmute: Dreadstone now requires 1 x Twilight Opal and 1 x Eternal Shadow
  • Transmute: Eye of Zul now requires 3 x Eternal Life
  • Transmute: King's Amber now requires 1 x Autumn's Glow and 1 x Eternal Life
  • Transmute: Majestic Zircon now requires 1 x Eternal Air and 1 x Eternal Air

I agree. They definitely shared none of that superiority. I regret even the one Cardinal Ruby made after completing the quest. It was my fault for not checking the prices, but I didn't expect it to be so worthless (in my case) after the 5 day quest to learn it.

I'm having the same issue with my level 80 that just picked up Alchemy. I put in a ticket, it appears to be another bug introduced with the patch that at 450 the alchemist trainers are not teaching the other gem transmutes, at least Linzy isn't the one I checked, hopefully it gets fixed soon.
