TheWoWDBI'm wild guessing here, but 9 out of 10 alliance players bought this Gryphon as their first mount, on their first toon, when they first played the game, ( in a patch version that you could fly). It looks like the Gryphon in Lore, and the vendor is the easiest one to find.
And chances are you already flew one in the "Alliance Airlines" and landed right in front of the SW vendor, anyway, and wanted your own mount.
