The pet is not BoA (Bind on Account, it is BoP (Bind on Pickup); you can't mail the pet to other characters on your account after you learn it. Once you learn the actual pet in game, it disappears from your bags. However, you do get one for each of your characters after you redeem the code -- even on any new characters you create on the account.
