Think it's useful to note that there's no need (aside from the small chance of a skill increase) to create anymore of these after you have learned all the available recipes, unlike, for example, the blacksmithing equivalent that can be turned in for a sack of gold.
As of Patch 6.1, since the new recipes are purchased with pigments, these are still useless if you already bought all the recipes off the vendor in the scribe building. As I personally now have a stock of 40 I think I will give up on them ever being useful again.
