The Scourge Invasion was a world event in Patch 1.11 that heralded the opening of Naxxramas.
There were floating necropolis-like buildings stationed over major cities that laid siege unto the cities below. If I remember correctly, the tabard was a reward from the Argent Dawn and turning in the runes you received throughout the event for items - the tabard being one reward choice.
My mage currently has this tabard... who received it well over two years ago. I'm such a packrat!
well, no it really wasnt impossible to have as a death knight. i seen ONE death knight from the gnomeregan server who had the tabard, how you ask? cause gnomeregan was such a low pop server they didn't do the scourge invasion even MONTHS after it had came out. finally a small group of people finished it off but till then almost nobody even touched it. on that ONE server that i seen. figured id share that little story with ya :D
