This is a rare drop for a quest that involves a treasure hunt. Murloc's north of the Gold Coast Quary will drop this at around 4%. The numbers on Wowhead are skewed due to the fact that there are a lot of Murlocs south of Gold Coast Quary that DON'T drop this item.

note:westfall is by far the best place to grind murlocs for this, the murlocs scattered around the coasts of westfall has a very high drop rate compared to other places,i dare say the murlocs anywhere else has a drop rate of less than 2%(for example poor mekk here)it wouldnt make sense for a murloc in elwynn forest have it either as he died in the ocean near westfall.hope this helps.

Worst Drop Item Ever, have been up and down that coastline doing the quests from the lighthouse 3 differnet times with it only dropping once - while I was in a group and someone else got it :( The least Blizzard could do is make it a group drop so that everyone could get it if it finaly drops.

This quest is obtainable by horde. I went up and down the coastline for a few times with my bloodelf killing every murloc in sight. Eventually I found it, and now I have Captain Sander's shirt equipped. Completed the quest on Neptulon 2008-03-04.

Just farmed myself one of these, I started killing every murloc on site starting at the very bottom of the beach, then slowly went up. It Finally Dropped north of the Jangolode mine off a Minor Oracle :D Goodluck Guys

And a possessive apostrophe is still incorrect there. "It's" is a contraction, plain and simple. Here is the "spelled out" version of that sentence, based on the apostrophe.
EDIT: As of Wrath of the Lich King, this item has had it is name fixed
SO, remove the apostrophe and it retains the possession without contracting a word which would make zero sense given the context and prior grammatical basis. All of this assumes that it was important enough to even make a comment about in the first place, which it wasn't. Since apparently some don't see the humor in SpectralDaisy's (notice the appropriate possessive apostrophe) comment, I'll make it simple. The OP was making a post about grammar errors in Blizz's work and then made a very minor error in their own work. See? Get it? We all make mistakes. lol. It is funi's. ;)

To reiterate the meaning of "rare drop rate", I'd like to mention that while grinding for this, I found 18 greens (among those were 3 Foamspittle Staffs (1.3% chance)) as well as one Schematic: Small Seaforium Charge (0 - 0.3% chance), Recipe: Cooked Crab Claw (0 - 0.3% chance) and Recipe: Swiftness Potion (near 0% chance being dropped by the Westfall murlocs) before finally getting this map which has a "much larger"

I started to farm murdalocks in search of the map at the southern end of The Longshore. Cleared the beach all the way up to the northern end. Then back south again. I finally got it at the level of the mine. A Murloc Netter dropped it for me. Very low drop rate.

When I was leveling an alt I got this in less than 20 kills. Then when I was farming for it for Loremaster (and the murloc eyes for the stew quest) I got it in less than 10. I may have just been lucky but it's possible the drop rate was increased sometime in 3.2-3.3?

Well, looks like getting the map is just a metter of luck :) I've completed The Coast Isn't Clear, The Coastal Menace and still farming for it...

Was farming for it for 3 hours, still nothing! Bad thing is those low-level Murlocs have no aggro, it's almost impossible to get a crowd and then AoE. Got like 180 Murloc Eyes, which drop from every third or so, and a bunch of items with even lower drop rate than the map. Damn you, Captain Sanders! :) Edit: Got it at last! It seems that the Northern part of the shore is easier to farm, mobs with higher drop-rate are all there. By the way, the map itself CANNOT be sold, due to it's *Unique* status. So, do not bother to farm for it for that matter.

Took me about 150 kills to get it to drop. Working on Loremaster with my Horde. Don't stop until you get this to drop as its 4 quests...very easy once you get the drop. Not to mention the 3 by the lighthouse at the southern end, 7 easy quests that took about 30 minutes.

Jazzygecko-8via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

I got my map off a mob right next to the chest where you turn it in...seriously, i didn't even have to move after I looted the map. Didn't plan that or anything, just happened that way. Took about 10 minutes of farming up and down coast.

19550+2via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

Please explain to me how you didn't have to move after getting the map? The quest from the map does not have you go to the chest. That quest is the fourth in the chain. Please, if you're going to try and make stuff up, at least make it somewhat believable.

This drop is weird. 12 Alliance toons have leveled through Westfall and I'd never seen this item. After looking for Loremaster quests and reading about how rare it was I headed to (55,9) to settle into a LONG grind. I killed 5 mobs and there it was. Hope I have this kinda luck in Stratholme.

I know I won't.

The drop is rather low as people above claims. Cleared the beach 1.5 times and finaly it dropped. Thank god I'm a caster.

Edit: Oh I forgot, the whole thing took me about 1.5hrs and recieves 4 quests that counts towards Loremaster. The quests are basically: "Go to A and then to B". Quite easy, happy loring.
