Sadly, with the advent of the [url=http://wowhead.com/?item=19106]Ice Barbed Spear[/url] came the death of this weapon's usefulness. As of now, all classes that can wield two-handed swords can also use polearms, and the IBS can be obtained at level 51, earlier than this (all you must do is win one AV match). If you're a sword fanatic, though, you may prefer this. The truth is, neither will last you past level 57, at which point you can start using gear from Outland (bought on the auction, of course; quests become available at 58).

Ta'Kierthan was a legendary night elven priest that forged blades of power. Each blade was imbued with a magical song, and the blade would sing it's mourning in combat. Not many of Ta'kierthan's songblades have survived into present day.

Tal’Kierthan (aka Ta'kierthan) was a legendary night elven priest who lived centuries ago. He employed special songs in the construction of his Tal'Kierthan Songblades. These caused the blades to chant in Darnassian during battle. From: http://wowwiki.com/Tal'Kierthan

Not a very good weapon because there are no stats for anyone that can use them so I would get Sul' Thraze http://www.wowhead.com/?item=9372, Corruption http://www.wowhead.com/?item=12782, or Ice Barbed Spear http://www.wowhead.com/?item=19106. All these are better upgrades.

The arcane damage was deleted, competely. Pre patch it was: Ta'Kierthan Songblade Binds when equipped Two-Hand Sword 129 - 194 DamageSpeed 3.30 + 1 - 20 Arcane Damage (52.1 damage per second) Requires Level 52 Item Level 57 Now it's Ta'Kierthan Songblade Binds when equipped Two-Hand Sword 129 - 195 Damage Speed 3.30 (49.0 damage per second) Durability 100 / 100 Requires Level 52 Item Level 57

I have one of these still BOE (not soulbound) in the bank, and I noticed the arcane damage was gone, which led me here. Wowhead is wrong on this. Mine does not have a high end of 195. It is 194. The only thing that changed on this was the removal of the arcane damage (which had the side effect of making the DPS drop).

I could be mistaken but I don't think this sword is obtainable anymore since they changed Lord Darkscythe's model and level during the Eastern Plaugeland's overhaul. It used to be a 20-40% drop. I farmed this back in the day and had more than a few drop for me. Has anyone had one of these swords drop since he was changed?

If you're going for appearance, here is a list of daggers and swords with that Japanese look and their respective handle colors:

[u]Daggers[/u]: [item=10625] Black handle: Very low random drop from Sunken Temple mobs [item=1935] Blue handle, random drop primarily in regular Shadowfang Keep; also drops from pick-pocketed boxes from level 20-ish mobs [item=25306] Blue handle, random Outland world drop [item=5756] Brownish handle: Very low random drop from Scarlet Monastery mobs [item=4088] Brown handle, random world drop from level 40-50 quest zones/dungeons [item=57492] Brown handle; Horde quest reward from [quest=26063] in Stonetalon Mountains [item=53300] Blue handle; Alliance quest reward from [quest=25153] in Southern Barrens

[u]Swords[/u] (one handed): [item=23540] from [item=23629] -- sits on your back instead of hip [item=12535] Black handle: Very low random drop from Blackrock Depths or [npc=9026] who guards the entrance [item=8190] Black handle: Very low random world drop from mobs in level 50-60 quest zones and dungeons in Azeroth [item=15216] Silver with black patterns; random drop from level 48-53 mobs [item=7943] Black handle, from a blacksmithing pattern: [item=8029] [item=13036] Green handle: low random world drop from mobs in level 50-60 quest zones and dungeons in Azeroth [item=9718] Green handle; Very difficult to get; involves rare drops and such; it's too complicated to summarize quickly. [item=9424] Green handle; Low random drop from mobs in Uldaman -- sits on your back instead of hip [item=25147] Brown handle, random drop from Outlands. [item=13953] Brown handle, [s]drop from [npc=1853] in scholomance EDIT: No longer drops in game. [/s] EDIT 2: There is a way to get this now thanks to Hegs' comment. See here: [url=https://www.wowhead.com/news/how-to-enter-old-scholomance-farm-once-removed-transmog-items-333981]Link to Old Scholomance attunement article[/url] [item=17054] Blue handle, 0.02% drop from a rare mob in Azshara, [npc=6650] [item=53256] Blue handle, Horde quest reward from [quest=24637] in Southern Barrens [item=67214] Red handle, quest reward from [quest=28628] in Winterspring [item=60702] Red handle, Alliance quest reward from [quest=26520] in Redridge Mountains [item=53280] Wood sword, Alliance quest reward from [quest=25108] in Southern Barrens

[u]Swords[/u] (two handed): [item=2205] Black handle; very rare world drop from Shadowfang Keep; debate as to whether this still drops [item=2801] Brownish handle; Very low drop rate from vanilla raid mobs [item=9385] Brown handle; random drop mostly from level 32-38 mobs [item=6909] Brown and green; 30% drop from [npc=4829] in Blackfathom Deeps [item=2822] Wood sword, the mob that drops it is no longer in the game, so it is a rare one to have. [item=5813] Reddish/pink handle; Alliance quest reward from [quest=26472] [item=15251] Green/blue-black; world drop; mainly off 39-45 level mobs, (some level deviation for instances). [s][b]just looking for confirmation from anyone; [i][u]does this item still drop?[/u][/i][/b]

I understand it's a rare item from a rare dude, but has anyone [i]actually[/i] seen this [item=16039] drop from [npc=10826] since the Cataclysm revamp?[/s]

confirmed: this item does NOT drop & has been removed from the loot table.

When saying something bs like GM confirmed, at least post source that proves it. [b]Yes, item is still obtainable in-game, still drops from rare![/b] Source: https://twitter.com/BlizzardCSEU_EN/status/1497990131311161344?t=a2vsvZ4ophYy-qIY7fyTaQ&s=19

I'm officially over 600 kills on [url=https://www.wowhead.com/npc=10826/lord-darkscythe]Darkscythe[/url] and no sword. That's below 0.16% which is twice less than Wowhead data. I know, I might reach that probability if I keep killing him, but still. I was so mad that I've got it on Classic, like after 5 kills, although Vanilla version spawn timer is much longer, around a day. For anyone farming any rare or camping vendors with specific items, remember that you can farm on 4 copies of each realm using [url=https://www.wowhead.com/npc=167032/chromie]Chromie[/url]: current timeline War Mode enabled/disabled and any alternative timeline War Mode enabled/disabled. [b]// UPD: 1000 kills[/b], still no blade. Either it's super rare or I'm not very lucky. [i]Theunderminejournal[/i] shows 5 of them on the entire EU region right now, so it's kind of rare I guess. [b]// UPD: 1500 kills[/b] - nope [b]// UPD: 1523 kil[/b]l - GOT IT! Can confirm, it still drops, acquired on 9/9/2023, War Mode: ON, timeline: Alternative (TBC), Server: EU Lightbringer. I'm so happy I can drop this farm right now and switch to something else after a year+ of hunting. After I started killing Lord Darkcrap I coudln't have imagined how long it will take because I thought as any other rare thing in WOW you can get it with enough dedication. Well, you [i]can[/i]. Getting this sword is a big milestone for me, because it's not about the gold, it's about putting effort and finally get what you want at the point where you're almost gave up. Will sit in the bank near [url=https://www.wowhead.com/item=9431/papal-fez]Papal Fez[/url], peace! [b]// UPD: 1520+ kill[/b]. So this is where the story becomes non-trivial. While moving my campers out I got like two extra kills on Baron, maybe it was the exact kill after I got the sword. I wasn't expecting anything, but something caught my eye after the kill, it was purple line in chat. "Aw, must be some world rare" - popped in my mind without any excitement. I couldn't believe what just happened after checking out inventory. It was Ta'Kierthan Songblade forged to epic quality. What are the odds of not getting anything for 1.5k kills and then 2 swords sequentially? I was so confused that became upset thinking that blizz could just rig the drop rate and now it drops like one in ten times. Then I checked global data and there were less then 10 on entire EU region. Proud owner of 2 now!

monkiy: My 10.1.7 experience hasn't been so sunny. Up to ~30 kills, and no sword yet. 30 kills is nothing compared to the OP's 1520+, but maybe the drop rate wasn't buffed as much as your luck suggests. Too soon to tell for sure; just adding my experience so far as a data point for the record.
