As of Patch 10.0.7, this has a low chance of dropping off [npc=7273] in the [zone=1176] dungeon. It's a nice throwback to the original [item=9653], which was a reward for the now removed quest [quest=2770].

EDIT: It appears earning [achievement=17366] is not required for this to drop. Have fun farming!

you don't need to do Relics of a Fallen Empire to have a chance for this to drop. never did any thing regarding Zul Gurub (other than a few attempt at getting the tiger and raptor mounts) and i managed to get this from Gahz'rilla on my Rogue, who doesn't even have Jewelcrafting.

[class=11] is the best for farming this recipe and [zone=1176] in general. [spell=783] is immune to the [npc=5648]'s [spell=18396] as well as able to ring the gong, kill [npc=7273], and loot it's body without "dismounting". [item=122703] is also immune to [spell=18396] but is 40% slower.

At 60-70 literally none of this matters. There's maybe 1-2 mobs that *might* pull if you get unlucky with pat positioning, and you can stay mounted just fine the vast majority of the time. No reason for anyone to worry about what class they bring beyond mog they may want.

TrashKetchum+7via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

74th Kill for me it dropped from Gahz'rilla, I averaged 2mins 26seconds per run, can avoid all patrols if ya lucky on mob levels, sometimes higher mobs will pull where lower wont. Best of luck to those chasing it, remember the cap on dungeons per hr, the only thing which makes this suck even more.

Finally dropped for me so I can confirm other comments here.

Yes, it does drop off of Gahz'rilla in Normal Zul'Farrak.

No, you do not have to be a Jewelcrafter to have it drop. I farmed it on my 70/Tailor/Engineer Hunter. It's not soulbound so I mailed it off to my JC.

Here's what happened. I ran 100 resets or 10 "too many instance" lockouts. It never dropped.

Having read conflicting comments here that you need or don't need to have completed the account wide achievement Relics of a Fallen Empire, and not having had completed it yet, I decided to get it done.

I won't bore you with the details. I easily found a video walk-thru online and completed it on my 70 Hunter. So easy really, then got back to the grind.

I was on my 140-150 run when it finally dropped. You always get 2 "Blue" items from Gahz. The Fang, Scale Armor or Scale Cloak. This time 3 Blues dropped. One was of course the Ancient Design: Square Holders.

Ya.. so maybe you do need to complete the achievement before it can drop. Maybe.. Look, It's so easy to get, you might as well do it before you start in on this grind. Just to be sure. :)

Good RNG luck to you.

BTW, riding to Gahz on the Chauffeured Chopper is a great idea. You won't be dismounted. You can still be sheeped, which actually does happen even at level 70. I would then ride back on a faster mount. It doesn't really matter. You'll easily lockout at 10 runs an hour even using the chopper there and back.

Hey, I can confirm for you guys, you do not need the achievement. I got this on my transmog farming druid twice from Gahzrilla in about 70 runs, and I do not have said achievement (started in BFA, not big on achieves, never did any old world content apart from dungeons for leveling). This is my druids achieve thing: https://worldofwarcraft.blizzard.com/en-gb/character/eu/ravencrest/bejgli/achievements/exploration/eastern-kingdoms

so this dropped for me in Zul Farak. didn't know i could get a JC pattern on a character that didn't have the profession. didn't even know what it was till after i got out of the dungeon and had a better look at it and thought "ancient design? what's that suppose to be, some old pattern from back in the day or something?" looked it up on here and saw it was going for roughly 300k and was like "yeah, i'm sure someone's willing to pay THAT much for some pattern." so chances are, i'll have to settle for like a few hundred at best. best of luck to those trying to get it, and more power to you if you get more than a few thousand for the pattern.

For anyone looking to get this as quickly as possible, here's my advice: 1. Only run on Druids. Even at max level, there is far too much RNG involved with polys and dismounts for any other class to be as efficient. Druids are, of course, immune to both of these problems in travel form. 2. Create a Premade Group and then click "leave party" on your profile when you're in the instance, as soon as you zone in. This will start a 1 minute timer that, when it times out, will kick you out to the graveyard. This may sound tight but it is plenty of time to rush Gah'zilla and kill him for an attempt, with around 10 seconds to spare. This is a considerably faster way to exit the instance than either running out or Dreamwalking out, as you will inevitably pull trash along the way and be unable to Dreamwalk as a result. 3. Level multiple Druids on multiple servers. Because of how fast you're going to be tearing through attempts, you will cap instances in around 10 minutes. While you could just wait for the cap to wear off normally, you can actually get around this by running on a different server. Instance cap is realm-specific, not account-wide. In my case, I only needed 3 Druids across 3 servers, but as someone who has stuff to take care of on the side, you may need more than that if you don't have much in the way of other things to take care of. Of course you will need someone else or a 2nd account to actually get the recipe to the realm you actually want it on though. And as a side note, I'd recommend resetting the instance every time you have to re-enter. While it will not be necessary most of the time, it will save you time in the small handful of times where an instance reset is required. I'd also recommend learning Jewelcrafting. While I don't believe it's actually necessary, it dropped for me on a JC, rather than the other 2 Druids who were not JCs. While that's likely just a coincidence, learning it costs almost nothing anyway, and having the peace of mind is nice. Doing all of this, it only took me 3 days to get the recipe, and that was with spending a lot of time off the game with IRL stuff. Your RNG may vary, though, obviously.

Got it after a bunch of runs over several days Did not have to kill the Hydromancer Velratha that is by the spawn - was still alive Got 3 blue drops - scale armor, scale cloak and the design Does not need to have the Jewlcrafting profession for it to drop - had Skinning/Herbing as the profession Do not need the relics of a fallen empire achievement - do not have relics of a fallen empire, memory of scholomance or wards of the dread citadel achivs
