Turns yellow at 68 and green at like 75. but at 50 it is 2 skill ups so while the mats are a bit pricey, For under 10k gold you can go from 50 to 78 in about 6-8 crafts. The only real issue is that the gems can't be crushed and since it is the primary source for most people leveling the Jewelcrafting profession, the price on the AH is dirt, you are better off just vendoring them if you are creating them leveling your Jewelcrafting profession. In fact, a lot of people don't know how to use TSM and just use the undercut feature and then gems are on the AH for below the vendoring price so sometimes you can make a ton of gold by buying them off the AH and vendoring them.
