This enchant is huge for pushing crushing blows off or reallocating item stats The ratings below provide a simplistic comparison for removal of crushing blows. (the stats themselves have different purposes but the attack table manipulation is the same) fractions included for completeness. +15 block rating = +1.90% chance to block = -1.90% crushing blows. +11.875 defense skill +28.025 defense rating +35.91 dodge rating +44.935 parry rating

To enchanters, from a tank, please do NOT waste any money on buying this enchant unless you are a 'completionist' and like to have all the recipes. I can assure you that this enchant is not worthwhile for the overwhelming majority of tanks, since +18 stamina to shield is a far better choice. What's worse, is that this enchant is actually WORSE than the level 60 enchant. Formula: Enchant Shield - Lesser Block, ( http://www.wowhead.com/?item=11168 ) provides for +10 block rating, which gives you +2% to block rating at level 60. Even at level 60 this was a questionable enchant, but for 1.9% at level 70 it is a total waste, and certainly not worth the mats. Even if it was double I would still have a hard time justifying it. So if you were eyeing this on the AH and wondered if it is worth the hundreds of gold that someone is asking for it, the answer is a big NO. Grab it if you want to complete your recipes, but don't buy it expecting anyone to be interested in wanting the enchant done.

67.4 + 30 =/= 102.4% remember to mention things like IF you have libram of repentance (which since the last patch now adds 5.3 and not just 5%) lets try this again? 67.4% (+libram 5.3%) + 30% holy shield = 102.7% ... now that i had to correct someone else who was in fact being a bit of a snob in the way they tried to correct ANOTHER Visibly you need ====> 72.4% (Unless, as wasnt mentioned you have the libram) then visibly you need ===> 67.1% (+35.3 = 102.4) either way your numbers where wrong in both cases. before bashing others check your own !@#$ing mistakes

Thank you for ranting and being horribly wrong. While not everyone will be clammering to get this enchant, the population of paladin tanks pre-kara will probobly find a way to utilize this... or they aren't worried in the least about being uncrushable. Remember fellow paladins: 67.4% visible midigation = UC.

Elmarion+5via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

Not necessarily, it would depend on your % to be missed. Assuming you're already uncritable, yes, true. Tbh this enchant is great for pre-kara items. There's no way a paladin can get to 70% mitigation in pre-kara items easily, and this helps a lot, without having to waste 10 talent points for parry. However, the ignorant warrior who posted before is right to some extent. Any tank with mostly kara+ gear would not need this enchant, and 18 stam would be far better.

From the Elitist Jerks forums, emphasis mine - To get rid of Crushing Blows you need a total combined miss/dodge/parry/block of 97.4% as shown on the character screen. Holy Shield will normally provide 30% block for this purpose, [Libram of Repentance] will add another 5.3% block to Holy Shield. Which in turn means you need either 67.4% miss/dodge/parry/block without the Libram, or 62.1% with the Libram. (Again, these are as shown on the character screen, there is an additional 5% base miss rate which is not shown on the character screen, which covers the difference)

So I'm being told by one of the Enchanters is my Guild (I maintain the guild's available enchants list) is telling me that Enchant Shield: Shield Block seems to have been changed in 2.4. He's saying that it now gives +18 block rating instead of +15. Can anyone else confirm/deny this? I'm aware that Wowhead and other sites like it say that it's still +15.... but I'm trying to see if it was something that was just overlooked and/or nobody's noticed it yet? Thanks in advance!

No, this is a terrible chant for a Warrior tank. Against bosses that hit for over 20k at a time, Block is pretty well useless. All it does is slightly lower the damage you take over time--it's NOT something you want to gear, gem, or chant for.* [small]*Okay, there are a few small exceptions to this. As the add tank on Anub in TotGC25, you want an Unhittable set--one where your total avoidance (Dodge, Parry, enemy's Miss) plus Block adds up to 101.6%--so you'll be stacking a lot of Block Rating. If you want to also build a Block set for use on trash, this could be a good choice,

Against a boss that hits for 20k, block is very valuable for a warrior tank. With a block value of 2.5k (which is reasonable after raid buffing), you could take 5k off an attack through a critical block. Now, lets say your tank has 50000 health. If he takes three unblocked attacks in a row (without healing, for whatever reason) at 20k each, he will die. If he takes three critical blocked attacks in a row (or two critical and one normal will suffice), he will be left at 5000 health, but still alive nevertheless. In addition to this, Icecrown Citadel has a number of circumstances where the hit

I bought this enchant for 800G today,.. I would have paid 10k. I have religiously checked between 3 major server AH's (both factions) Daily for nearly a year, and today was the first time it appeared. Yay 4 completion.

Just got one of these out of a Sealed Scroll Case that NPC "Gunter" sells in Zul'Aman. You get Gunter to appear with an Amani Hex Stick and you use it on the frogs in there. Can only buy a Sealed Scroll Case once per instance reset. http://home.comcast.net/~nirvgorilla/enchantshield-shieldblock.jpg

As of patch 4.0.3 "Formula: Enchant Shield - Shield Block" was changed:

1. Before patch 4.0.3. it used to increase BLOCK rating by 15; after patch 4.0.3 it will now increase PARRY rating by 15. The only enchant (I could find) as of patch 4.0.3 that increases block rating is Enchant Shield - Blocking. So apparently, in terms of enchants, "block" now means to parry and "blocking" means to block.

After patch 4.0.3: Formula: Enchant Shield - Shield Block Requires Enchanting (340) Item Level 68 Use: Teaches you how to permanently enchant a shield to increase parry rating by 15. Requires a level 35 or higher item. Sell Price: 1 50

Before patch 4.0.3: * Enchant Shield - Shield Block * Reagents: [Arcane Dust] (12), [Greater Planar Essence] (4), [Primal Earth] (10) * Permanently enchant a shield to give 15 block rating. Requires a level 35 or higher item. * Tools: [Runed Fel Iron Rod] * Requires Enchanting 340
