Braxxis' Staff of Slumber

Not the greatest blue drop in the world, but I wanted to say that I got this off of an Ango'rosh Ogre in Zangarmarsh, so you can add that to the list of possibilities if you're looking for one. :)

What do you mean not the greatest drop? Never played a druid have you?

A staff with 550 armor is incredible! Druids get a 180% armor increase in bear form so thats an additional 990 armor! We have a Feral Druid in our guild with this staff, he's a level 65 with over 16,000 armor!

Now the real question... what enchant would you get on it, assuming that your guild does not yet have every enchant in the game? Say, only pre-expansion and the early Outlands enchants are available, what then?

25 or 35 Agility, as it's a tanking Staff. You want the extra dodge/crit.

You don't want to dodge as a tank. Dodging gives no rage. Suck it up and have the healers do their job, and your job becomes easier. ^^

Bought this last night for my druid. 75g b/o there were two more on the AH for 250g b/o :)

Woot. I was willing to pay up to 200g for this and saw it up for 55/75g. Needless to say, I snatched it ASAP. Only one on the AH. =)

I'll be missing out on the stamina and the resil rating but gaining armor and attack power for those times I have to go into bear form... hmm..

Snagged this beauty for an amazing 30g today! Going to put 15 Str on it as I like DPSing for aggro in Bear (Pre-Lacerate).

Dropped for me from a trash mob in the Auchnai Crypts. Ironically, I was tanking the instance - and it bumped me from around ~11,000 armor to ~15,100. I got this drop off of something completely different than on the list, I got this from a Ravenous Windroc in Nagrand. quite a nice peice though for being free.

What about http://www.wowhead.com/?item=25761#M0z ? Should I prefer the armor over the stats and take the Braxxiìs Staff of Slumber? I know that 550 armor are a lot more armor in dire bear form, but 45 stamina are hp and 30 agi is useful for the dodge rating. (and there is a lot more attack power... 64+62 from strenght... not the main stat for a tank, but 126 attack power can be useful)

Yes this is a great Bear staff. As soon as you hit 64 try and buy it on the AH. It will last you until 67 when you can get the Staff of Beasts (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=25761) in the circle of blood quests in Nagrand. Once you have that, these two staffs should last you until 70 as your Bear and Cat staff respectively. Then grind CE rep to get The Earthwarden (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=29171). For feral druids, these two staffs and then the Earthwarden should be all you need until you are raiding. There isn't much else that is a lot better. And the two staffs are so easy to get :) I

I agree 100% w/ Notsoevil about the Cat/Bear thing.. And Redbush's comments on the "Earthwarden". I'm feral spec. and I keep a full set of Cat/Dire/ and even Resto n Balance sets in my bags. In reference to Ephel's original question, remember druids are hybrids.. each form is a different "Sub-Class" so to speak. So, truly, you must treat each one Differently and Independantly...thats not to say some of your Cat Gear might mix with your Bear gear. The Same goes for Healing / Balance Gear... I use the Staff of Beasts you linked as my DPS weapon, and the Braxxis Staff of Slumber as my tanking weapon. Kitty gear and bear gear -- you should have both.

On PTR, this staff now has +39 sta and the damage was slightly tweaked.. 130-223 now.

Got this staff off the AH tonight for my feral drood--definitely worth the investment. Stuck the +25 agi on it right away for the extra armour/dodge/crit% (can't do the +35 agi yet, didn't feel like splurging on the mats). Just a note about the contributions to armour since the change to dire bear form: - the staff contributes 2750 armour total in dire bear form before agility; - the staff contributes 3025 armour total in dire bear form before agilility w/ 3/3 Thick Hide.

got this baby in 20g last night (Yes, only 20g lol) very decent even @ 70 while you get exhalted with Cenarion refuge.

This dropped for me while I was doing the quest "The Foot of the Citadel". I was quite pleasantly surprised, as most of the orcs there are 62-63, and this a 64 item. However, there is a chance that it dropped from one of the elites that are part of that quest.

Indeed a very good tanking weapon, and definately better than Staff of Beasts in terms of tanking. As a tanking weapon it lasted me till Earthwarden without any porblems. As for my dps weapon, Staff of Beasts lasted me till i got Terestian's Stranglestaff. It also seems to get a slight buff in AP in patch 2.3 234 -> 292 AP

This weapon will add 321.2 Attack Power while in cat with HotW as of 2.3

I got this from an underbog run at 62, its greeat, definitely way better than staff of beasts for tanking. Better than pretty much any staff until lvl 70 ones like earthwarden. Pretty unique graphic too. I have around 14k armor in bear form at 66 (along with 30% dodge). safe to say I have no issues tanking

Staff of Natural Fury, while a fabulous all-round feral staff for PvP, is inferior for PvE tanking. Feral Staff of Lashing vs. Earthwarden boils down to personal preference and/or your other gear: you're trading AP and agility for armor, defense, and expertise. Braxxis is a steal at the AH, considering it's a top-5 druid tanking weapon [i]in the entire game[/i], and is arguably slightly better than Earthwarden, and definitely better than Feral Staff of Lashing, in terms of pure damage soak.

I wouldn't put Braxxis above the Leviathan or Natural Fury. It does have more armor than both and a little more stam but that doesn't mean it's better. Tanking is not just about staying alive but also about keeping your party alive. Braxxis is low on the list for threat. If threat is a problem for you, the added attack power and strength of the other two will help greatly. Especially if you're still using Braxxis while tanking heroics (maybe you dont have the rep for Earthwarden yet) then threat will become a problem. Most dps in heroics are constantly right on your heels on the agro tab

You mean normal Steam Vaults right? Its gives more rep in less amount of time. But if you want badges do heroics.

have been looking for this for years, especially with the recent addition of appearances. I mentioned it in the beginning of the dungeon, everyone agreed that they don't want it so I could have it. Of course, it drops, and is then needed by a previously very talkative Boomkin who refused to respond to any of us throughout the rest of the dungeon. maybe next time.

Update for 2020: While doing the [i]endless[/i] Farming circle for Dreadfang Venom Sacs, I was quite surprised to loot a Dreadfang Lurker and find a Blue Stick in it's... pocket? Not listed as dropping from it, but it would appear from what [i]is[/i] listed as Dropping it, that this is an Outlands World Drop.

Interesting look to it, like a Furbolg forearm/paw jammed on the end of a tree branch. The previous comments indicate it's useful for a Druid tank, so we'll see if someone can use it on the Auction House.

This dropped off a [url=https://wowhead.com/npc=17957]Coilfang Champion[/url] after a single run of the Slaves Pens [b]Heroic[/b]. You're better off farming chests for more reliable results, but all the same, good luck!
