what is sheathe?

For people who think sheathe is not a word or is spelled incorrectly. Not sure if Saltiren was being a smart alec or actually did not know, but here it is. sheathe (SHēT͟H) verb put (a weapon such as a knife or sword) into a sheath. encase (something) in a close-fitting or protective covering. "her legs were sheathed in black stockings"

On a side note, best example sentence ever.

Basically, "Sheathe" is as in: "To Sheathe something" whereas, "Sheath" is as in: "A close-fitting container for weapons (Traditionally)" Example of both words in a sentence: "He was going to sheathe his blade in his intricately crafted sheath."

The plans for making these babies can only be acquired through a Blacksmithing quest in Loch Modan, needless to say it's Alliance only. Still, the plans aren't Bind on anything anyway so they can be auctioned in the Neutral Auction Houses for the Horde to purchase. And yes, they do sheathe on the back, looks pretty.

Considering the raw mats this takes, this is a very good money maker! 10xCopper Bar - 10s each - 1g 1xTigerseye - 15s each - 15s 2xRough Grinding Stone - 1s each (for rough stone) - 2s Total cost of 1g 17s by Wowheads prices. I regularly sell these for 7g 50s within a few hours. Even wowhead has the price as 5g. Definite winner!

*personal opinion* the best item for lower lvl melee classes for looks XD i had a pair for my rogue just cuz i wanted to strut around SW looking cool and they ain't bad as a MH for rogues at that lvl

In level 10 (if ur twink) Do Crusader + fiery/lifesteling = Pwn =D

I bet even higher level twinks get those enchant them and dual wield them to look cool

For combat rogues at level 10. GET THESE! You do mayjor damage for your level if you have these and dont have Heirlooms avalible to you! I was hitting 50 white damage and 60 SS damage

I honestly like them for their sheathing on the back. Looks beast on a rogue, and nice for RP.

I'd like to note that early-level quest-obtained weapons like Stung (http://www.wowhead.com/item=24339) no longer sheath on the back. This is also true to the one from Teldrassil, Brushwood Blade.

15 years later, just giving an update to the list: Stung no longer sheathes on the back (blizzard why tho) but we have gotten a few additions: Longsword of the Knight's pledge, Fireborn Blade + its glowy radiant version, and the Corrupted sunblade.

Why must it only be on alliance? I mean you would figure there is a horde quest for it too, but no. Blizzard should make a horde quest to recieve this. Now i have to make a toon on ally, get their blacksmithing to 30 take the quest and go to nuetral Auction House and put on market for 1c, logout and be there on my horde, then buy the plans. ..... Blizzard ......

Actually it wouldn't be so bad if it were that easy... Unfortunately, you can't bid on or buy out your own alt's auctions, regardless of faction. So not only do you have to do everything you just said, you have to get someone else to buy them for you... unless you own two accounts.

I DO wish it was avalible to horde, such a cheap yet awesome looking weapon but the fact that it's alliance only is a royal pain, spent ages getting mats from AH (about 20 or so Gold wasted) before realising it was ally only T-T

Just get an alliance alt or a friend with an alliance character and trade it under the table at a neutral house :D

ya I don't like faction-only gear either. there's a pretty sweet 2H sword available from a blood elf quest that alliance can't get too =(

The recipe is Alliance-only, the sword itself isn't, unlike [item=59550] from a Barrens quest (which doesn't sheathe on the back though).

con you transmog these? if so ill be off to the AH.....

It has stats, so yes it is transmoggable.

It looks quite great on Goblins (I submited a screenshot of mine).

[u]For Hordies rolling Ally-side for the first time and thus have zero funds there, I have compiled a few tips to fast track this, and condenses all posts here into one;[/u] - Roll a [u]Human Rogue[/u] (stealth+proximity to easy ore) and accept any spammy invite from a leveling guild (25% FP speed increase + gathering proc). - As soon as you hit level 5 head to Goldshire, take up mining and BS - Head just south to [u]Fargodeep Mine[/u]. - Shank suckas and loot their Linen Cloth. When you have enough Linen (12), you can stealth past all mobs to the nodes you need like a boss, which comes in handy during busy periods and expedites the process overall. - [u]Ensure you have 72 Copper Ore, 12 Linen Cloth and at least 29 Rough Stone.[/u] - Craft 29 Rough Sharpening Stone (NOT Rough Weightstone, it will consume your Linen), and smelt your Copper Ore. - Fly to IF (~48 copper), accept quest from homeboy at the giant forge behind you, buy 6 Weak Flux from his mate. Craft stuff. - Fly to Gol'Bolar Quarry (free), then hoof it east down the road. Take a right at the fork and Bob's your uncle. Turn in. - Next part (trade to Horde) kinda sucks, fly to Eastvale Logging Camp and begin your southbound trek to Booty Bay. Stealth may be feeble around red-is-dead mobs but it'll reduce your aggro radius at the very least.

with 6.0 the action house is neutral, meaning you can (for a relatively high price) sell this sword to horde players. Thats also the easyest way to get it as a horde player

Currently if you have the Darkthorn Piercer and the Heavy Copper Longsword, the Darkthorn Piercer appears to override the Heavy Copper Longsword in the new Transmog System added in 7.0 thus making it so you cannot get it to transmog the correct sword if you want them to sheathe on your back.

This isn't correct. If you right click an appearance which you have unlocked from multiple sources you can choose which source to transmog from. Thus if you right click the Darkthorn Piercer, choose Heavy Copper Longsword and then transmog your weapon and you end up with a sword that sheathes on your back! Taa daaa!

Does anyone know if this quest is still available? I've leveled a dwarf warrior w/ mining & BS to character level 10, profession level 50, specifically to get this recipe but it never triggers.

yes, you can still do the quest. did it today.

So I crafted this item, went to AH and placed it and tried to buy it with my Horde char. Unfortunately you can't buy your item from AH, so no need to waste time with trying. Just use it and it will be added to your collection (not if you already had Darkthorn Piercer). When you going to use it for tmog, just find it by name and right click. There is option "Transmogrify as:" and choose Heave Copper Longsword.

Anyone ever wonder why you use a [url=https://www.wowhead.com/item=818/tigerseye]Tigerseye [/url] in crafting this yet the crystal at the end of the hilt is blue. Surely the end should be orange at least right?

I could be mistaken since I'm a bit of a goober when it comes to the new transmog UI, but this sword no longer sheathes on the back as of 12.0. I put in a ticket but we'll see if that even goes anywhere.
