Virtuoso Inking Set

Currently can not be purchased outside of Northrend. You also have to go to Amber Ledge to get these. This is not in the immediate landing area upon first reaching Northrend. Was able to do this as a 59 Death Knight with little trouble, but good luck if you are lower level. I stuck to the roads and having the 100% speed mount helped.

I was letting my friend play my Death Knight, and we of course wanted to try out Inscription. So last night he was playing, and got to Vengeance Landing to learn it as his first skill. Late last night/early this morning I made it to Amber Ledge, costing 8+ gold in repairs since I resurrected a few times. So I went to bed, got up, and leveled some Herbalism, then used those to level Inscription. I go to the trainer, Booker Kells, at Vengeance Landing, and he sells these. My friend said there wasn't a person who sold things there. Grr.

Edit: Apparently I could also have just taken a zeppelin from Orgrimmar to that side of Northren. Grr again.

This appears to have been renamed to "Inking Set", even though the inscription window still says you need "Scribe Tools" instead.

After 24th September, the required Inscription tool item was renamed into "Virtuoso Inking Set" (used to be simply "Inking Set") and with a decorated lockbox as it's icon. All tooltips were updated in the Inscription recipes, where it was once still listed "Scribe Tools", the first name it had. It seems all recipes will require the Inscriptioner to have this in their bags for creating any item of the profession, however at the moment all scrolls of Stamina, Intellect and Spirit except the first level of each (the ones for +3 of the stat), as well as Treated Vellum, can still be made without it. It isn't soulbound and can be discarded at any time you aren't crafting, since it's sold at the supplies vendor near any Inscription trainer, with a buying cost of only 7s12c (6 silvers with Exalted discount). Currently all capital cities have an Inscription trainer/supplies vendor, but not Shattrath. Other locations for them include Honor Hold (Alliance), Thrallmar (Horde) and Dalaran (Northrend), as well as Borean Tundra and Howling Fjord. Edit: Included Horde trainer in Thrallmar.

It goes without saying, but there's also one in Thrallmar.

Don't know how it was in 2.4, but for sure after 3.1 all professiontrainers in Shattrath City(not the bookcases!) also sell the standard prof-items, like this one. Aldor and Scryers both have put their trainers in the li'l houses next to the elevator.

Sadly, this is not sold anywhere in Gilneas despite Inscription being available almost from the beginning. If you wish to begin leveling Inscription and using the beginning scrolls before leaving the area (and leveling beyond them) you will want to purchase this on another character and mail it to yourself. Mailboxes are easily accessible in Gilneas. Although I can't confirm from personal experience, I am sure Goblins will have to do the same.

They aren't sold by the trade supplies vendor at Goldshire, so I assume it's like this with all of the ones near Mass Profession Trainers, too.

Correct... Goblins cannot purchase this, at least at the Town-in-a-Box, where the profession can be learned.

The Virtuoso Inking Set is also not sold in Mulgore, even though there is a trade supplies vendor and a profession trainer.

Not sold in Falconwing Square either. As childofnewlight stated the easiest thing to do is to buy it on a different toon and mail it to your low level Inscriptionist.

Confirmed, not sold in Gilneas - and as the leaving level is 15 before you get to Darnassus, pretty ridiculous. I did however use a low level alt to go fetch one from Stormwind Inscription Supplies, near Stockades, and at first it was red and I thought I could not pick it up, but tried it, went into my backpack and sent it in the mail to my new worgen. I am sure this is a Blizz oversight and should be rectified. Also (lol) found that could not pick this up from the Mailbox, cos NO MAILBOXES after Duskhaven, until Darnassus! Another oversight?

Perhaps slightly off-topic, but... As this item even states in its flavor text, the term for "one who practices Inscription" is "[b]scribe[/b]." Not that I really mind seeing "inscriptionist" or "inscriber" or "inscriptioner" but I just thought I'd point it out.

The root for "inscription" is "script"? So what about "scripter" for the person who does it; where did "scribe" come from? Ugh. A miner mines, right? OK, yes, I know... RP and medieval ages, etc blah blah................ English can be a pain. It's a melting pot of a bunch of languages so it has all kinds of exceptions to standard rules (melting pot, or mutt, take your pick)... Imperial English. What about a Standard English that actually follows rules? Like 1984 (not that Big Brother is any great model) or Imperial measurements versus metric.

Same act of idiocy is in Brill, you can learn Inscription, but you can't practice it as you can't buy the set.

If you have the Traveler's Tundra Mammoth, you can purchase this from Gnimo on the Mammoth. Might save you a trip and a hearthstone cooldown! :-)

For inscription recipes that require [item=39505], having [item=114943] or [item=109253] will meet that requirement as well. I imagine most scripters have Herbalism as the 2nd profession, rather than something that would need another tool (e.g. Blacksmith, Engineering, etc.), but I made the army knife for my scripter, anyway.

(An "inscription" is a script and a person who writes scripts is a "scripter", so there LOL. Is that simpler than "inscriptionist", "inscriptioner", "scribe" (WTH?) and so forth?)

Why in the world would this still be needed on certain post-dragonflight crafting revamp recipes? The crafting table should suffice.

This is what I came here to see before vendoring this ancient item. I would think that the new tools in our professions tab would have sufficed.
