Who is this Chelley guy and why does he have so many weapons?

This dagger seems to be named after World of Warcraft & Video Game podcaster Michelle Madison's priest. As a former member of her old guild on shadowsong and long time listener of her podcasts I can explain. They are both her priests. Michelle stopped playing her alliance priest on shadowsong a long time ago. She had another priest on shadowsong horde, which she moved over to blackrock and started playing instead. Months later, she factioned changed the horde blackrock priest and moved it to tich where she now plays as alliance. Hope I helped.

I find it odd that a Scalpel is used by doctors, making this item ideally for healing, but looks like they forgot the spirit. I recall seeing something similar on a Mail item being named something healing related and had Agi on it.

This item is more than an ideal healer's wep, at least taken from a disc's perspective. When compared to [item=71355] (which is obviously itemized for paladins and druids), at the moment, mastery is just so much more useful than haste, and the spirit will most likely be easily capped through other items. Pretty much the same way as we saw many healers using non-spirit weps before 4.2, such as [item=59341] and [item=63536].

@dietekocgirl: Wrong. All discipline priests prioritize mastery over other secondary stats, even specced into Evangelism/Archangel/Atonement. Atonement will never be your main heal - and should never be, save for on Halfus; it's too unreliable and useful only during low damage phases and to build up stacks of Evangelism so that you can pop AA for the healing boost. Your power will always come primarily from absorbs, which is what our mastery boosts. So yes, this is a rather nice disc weapon.

While you are absolutely right that Smite should be saved for periods of mana conservation, Holy Fire should be, generally, used on cool down as it is a fast, cheap, powerful heal with a HoT. Also, crits do put shields on. :D

Mastery only buffs PW:S to any noticeable effect. Haste and crit are both better than mastery for most disc priets since shield spamming is no longer viable.

I know about that , I was just trying to make a point about how holly paladins have to work harder to get an upgrade than other healers.For example T11 the only healing weapon upgrade could only be from Nefarian or Cho'gall while the other healers could either get the boe trash staff [item=59525] or the much easier to obtain [item=59341] or [item=63536]. Now for T12 it's almost the same but besides [item=71355] again endboss, we get [item=71776] which is a shared loot item between the first 4 boss, which sounds good but in reality with 1.9% chance to drop you won't see it drop too soon especially for 10 man, unless you're really lucky.

Same goes for priest's shoulders in T11 content. Obtainable only from Cho'Gall' / All'Akir ([item=64315]) or Nefarian ([item=59337]).

Anyone have an idea of the effectiveness of this vs. Volcanospike for arcane mages? I have both, still trying to decide which to use.

I would definitely say this. Mastery and crit are much better than haste for an arcane mage. If you need the hit, you can always reforge.

Trilok, thank you for supplying the item comparison (can't figure out how to do that myself, lol). I noticed that you compared shadow and holy, but what about disc healing, in regards to Chelley's Sterilized Scalpel + Globe of Moonlight?

Is this any good for a resto shaman ?

It could be, if you're running 10s or if you're not mana battery for your raid. Generally though if you have access to a weapon of the same ilevel with spirit on it, stick to that.
