I guess you could tag this as one of the most well-known staves in the game. I don't really see why though, besides the +29 int. If you're lucky enough to have one drop, either sell it for the gold or keep it for the NR, although it's not much. In my opinion I think it's one of those items that are better off being sold. There are plenty of other staves that you will come across in a short amount of time that won't cost you anything.

It's well known because for a while it was quite literally the best staff in the game. Back in the day there was no staff of the ogre king, no staff of dominance (even for the guilds clearing MC, they didn't have any sort of staff - SoD was patched in later), nothing. This weapon is a testament to the caster itemization in WoW at release. It used to sell for up to 2000g and we walked 15 miles both ways to the AH to get it, and hell, we even liked it and would garnish it with such amazing enchants as "+9 int" 9 whole int! Ah the good old days.

The staff sucks. There were plenty of other options like the Inventor's Focal Sword (one-hand sword) with 1% spell crit and 6 intellect. The sword was added in as early as patch 1.2 with Maraudon. Pair it with an off-hand like Celestial Orb and you would do much better than with this terrible staff.

I picked one of these up in AH for 128g - the other prices were around 300g, my mage is level 39 atm ;D should I keep this for the future? Or sell it and make even more money=] I am not a twink, I was lucky to get 2 dragon pets drop.

Farmed rep in felwood yesterday, with 3 others from our guild and one random player. All greeded but not the "outer" 56 priest who needed. What an ass. Sure it is good but in 2 lvl when outland waits it just goes down the toilet neway, which we said. but a no go..

Mate, no offense, but you've got it wrong: 1) On stats: The Argent Crusader has 1 more intel, 15 less NR, 9 less stam, and 1 more spirit. To my mind, that's a big difference, especially for mages. We mages have large mana pools and small health capacity as a general rule. the 9 stamina loss is therefore felt more heavily than the increase of 1 intel. Spirit is more a priestly stat than a magi stat, so that too is not a great improvement. So you can slap another 30 intel on the Argent Crusader? We can do that for the Brightwood too. Yes it isn't always available on the AH and drop rates aren't

I think the odds are a wee bit off on those stegadons perhaps. I killed every stegodon in the crater, went back and killed them all after they respawned, and got halfway through a third round and ran out of bullets. Not even a green /cry

The Glowing Brightwood Staff is a random world drop. Anyone out there trying to kill these NPCs has to realize that .02% means an average of 2 drops for every 10,000 kills. I know that acquiring epic items can take epic effort but anyone trying to farm for this staff is wasting their time.

Pretty much the best staff you can get for the -49 bracket. Even has a fairly decent damage range, so if you're a Shammy, you could hit reasonably hard with it. Personally I prefer the extra armor from using a shield, but if you don't fear warriors, pallies, rogues, hunters, and other shammies, go for it :)

http://www.wowhead.com/?item=18082 I'm using this on my lock and i wouldn't trade it for Brightwood. Simply +spell damage is much more valuable on lock. Beside, this is lvl 42 and Brightwood 49... (I was lvl 49 as i wrote this)

I have this staff on a Mage and I can say with certainty that the extra 885 mana it generates for me is well worth it. In addition it generates 150 Health for me as well which for a mage is very handy. The Spirit is just a bonus in my opinion since I'm a fire mage primarily. Arcane mages would do better from the extra spirit since they can have a talent to let their mana regen continue while casting. I know that once I get into Outland I'll likely find one that's better very quickly, this will at least do me until then and possibly after for a while. Lvl 49 Mage at time of writing

91599-2via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

Completely not worth it, especially for Mages and Warlocks who want some spell damage. Bought this for 225g in AH and a week later, got a better staff from a quest in Outlands at level 58. Don't bother with this staff.

While true, this isn't really a fair judgment as the same can be said for all boe epics in this level range. For example, Krol Blade http://www.wowhead.com/?item=2244 Foe Reaver http://www.wowhead.com/?item=29913 Brain Hacker http://www.wowhead.com/?item=1263 Rage Reaver http://www.wowhead.com/?item=29908 Hammer of the Northern Wind http://www.wowhead.com/?item=810 Shatterstone Pick http://www.wowhead.com/?item=30855 (okay not a mace, but a clear upgrade) etc. So while it's true that this staff is easily replaceable once you hit outland, it makes getting there a little bit easier for cast

Mazorp+15via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

This is a great twink staff, otherwise it is rather useless at this point. The main selling point for a twink is it's relatively insane stats and that is is above the Level Required 35 limit which means TBC enchants can be used on it. Keep in mind that is however is a very bad leveling item, at 49 you're pretty close to heading to Outlands and therefore the 9 levels of leveling this will take you to is not worth it. It's well known item stats explode once you hit Outlands. Again, great twink item, poor leveling item.

How is this better than the Staff of Jordan? For a twink who would want the most damage possible, I'd choose the SoJ over this, unless someone can explain how the extra MP and HP this gives is worth it.

141044+5via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

also take a look at the other healing weapons that 49s have available to them, Jordan is ok, but damage isn't as good as healing, and stats will often go alot further then spellpower in either case. just because healers need copious amounts of stamina to withstand the burst that's going to land on them when they start healing people, at the same time they also need enormous amounts of mana to be able to spam instant casts on themselves and everyone else when casting is no longer and option. if they had a +healing weapon at this level with any int and stamina on it that was even remotely compa

121790+16via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

Most twinks enjoy large Stamina pools, which the Staff of Jordan has none. This is the reason a twink would take the GBS over the SoJ. That's before taking into account the large Intellect advantage the GBS has.

155017+0via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

Yes this has an insane amount of int and stam for its level, but I would think that http://www.wowhead.com/?item=11750 would about the same, and much easier to get. You give up 5 stam and 17 int for about 1% crit and 15 spell damage (not counting the nature resist, which is very situational).

vikki+18via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

You can take a green lvl 49 item and put a +35 agility enchant on it. Voila! An even better hunter twink weapon! Truth is these stats suck for a hunter at this level, the only thing you'd want it for is the stamina...

166790+6via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

Has anyone tried this as a lvl 49 twink enhancement shammy weapon? It has the most dps of any two-hander for that level and the stats would be nice considering all your other gear would have stats for melee damage, this would boost you mana pool and stamina a bit. Just a thought.

53267+4via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

I think this staff would be amazing for a 49 Enhancement shaman. Given that they have no weapon talents like warriors, and have a talent Mental Dexterity that converts the 26 intellect into 26 AP, making the weapon even more powerful.

284930+2via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

coming from an elemental shaman (repecced at 3.0.8, talents were reset) i just got this to drop in un'goro and its definitely more for a priest. Enhancement shamans have dual wield. Why would they need a staff that moves slower than old people make love?

310833+2via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

I haven't tested 2h vs DW for DPS yet, but 2h = bigger Windfury hits = more burst damage. @Anubus: This is probably the best 2h weapon for an Enhancement Shammy right now. You lose a little bit of top-end damage from Kang, and the proc, but you get: + 150 health + 435 mana + 29 AP You can also compare this to Executioner's Cleaver (10 less DPS) which only gives you: + 23 AP Stat-wise, if you had two Ribsplitters of Power, you'd end up with: + 64 AP The extra 35 AP is nice, but someone else will need to post stats on how DW + Mongoose compares to 2h + Mongoose or Savagery.

315138+4via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

Well...there was a time when this staff was incredibly good for hunters in the 49 bracket. When hunters had a mana pool and intelligence could produce ranged attack power. You do realize that the first hunter epic quest line reward from molten core was a staff?

Levelling my Death Knight, I was just running around questing, and as there are loads of Scarlet Guards etc with an aggro range of about ten miles, I managed to kill a few when protecting an NPC and then dropped the staff! I sure wasn't expecting an epic to drop, then I looked at the drop chances and I was even more amazed! These things seem to drop when I'm not even looking for them! :)
