TheWoWDBYou simply need to have the hatchling summoned in the world when the quest is complete. You do not have to use the hatchling in the fight. If you do use it in the fight and it dies it is no longer summoned in the world and you will not get credit.

Thats really misleading quest text, gonna be alot of people thinking it's bugged.
In fact, if you complete the quest as directed without having your hatchling summoned, you won't get credit.
