Riddle of Steel

This is discovered like the rest of the MoP patterns/transmutes. You dont have to have a 605 skill to use/learn it.

Just transmuted a relatively large amount of living steel. Below are the numbers.

I had materials to transmute 1101 [Living Steel] which equates to:
3003 X [Trillium Bar]
3003 X [Spirit of Harmony]

With Transmute Mastery, I ended up with 1305 [Living Steel], and therefore:
204 Extra [Living Steel]

Which works out to 18.5286% additional [Living Steel] per craft if you have [Transmutation Master]

I have Blacksmithing / Mining maxed on one alt, and Alchemy / Herbalism on another alt. It is very much worth grinding rep with [faction=1272], because you can grow Mote of Harmony, giving you 1.7 Spirit of Harmony per day. That adds up a lot quicker than you might think. You can also grow ores on your plat -- I have found that to be a quicker and more reliable way to get trillium ore than farming it, as trillium is a rare spawn that sometimes spawns instead of ghost iron. Through growing on my plat, I can always get enough for one, sometimes even three trillium bars each day. That also adds up quickly if you make sure to tend your garden every single day without fail. For about three minutes effort a day on my plat, I can get as much trillium ore as if I spent thirty minutes farming ghost iron ore nodes, and without all the mobs.

In a month of planting songbell seeds, you will end up with over fifty spirit of harmony. That can be traded for a bunch of golden lotus or trillium ore.

Once you get enough alts to exalted with tillers, you can harvest tons of reagents for food buffs, enchanting, jewelcrafting, blacksmithing, and alchemy, and turn some good coin on the AH.

Spirit of Harmony IS significantly more rare than Trillium Bars. Bars can be purchased on the AH, whereas Spirits are soulbound and must be farmed by killing many, many mobs.

I did 100 of riddle steel, and 100 of regular xmute of living steel. Proc'd 38% of the time with riddle, and only 5% with regular. Does is say anywhere that riddle has a more chance to proc? Im counting my next 100 xmutes as well to see the stats I get again.

When it says 605 in Yellow, it means that it turns Yellow at 605 Skill (which won't happen unless ur goblin, or next expansion). Before that, it is Orange when learned at 600, therefore requires 600, not 605.

Also, getting Exalted with The Tillers Faction lets you grow 16 Motes of Harmony [ http://www.wowhead.com/item=89112 ] a day, helping you reach that 3 Spirit burn super quick

WoWhead just didn't properly datamine it. If it turns yellow at 605 and green at 610, then that means it turns orange (and is learnable) at 600, not 605.

DON'T FORGET TO STUDY: Transmutation Master with SW/ORG Alchemy trainers to enable a chance for more transmutes on each daily!

From 100x Trillium Bar and 100x Spirit of Harmony thanks to transmutation mastery I created 37x Living Steel

The point is it lets you transmute Living Steel more that once a day. But yes, not very often.

It bears mentioning that Spirits of Harmony can be traded to an NPC for 2 golden lotus each. If your goal is acquiring bars of living steel in a hurry, it's far more cost effective on most realms to trade your three Spirits of Harmony for 6 golden lotus, sell those on the AH and then use the gold to buy living steel. If your goal is to make money, it's more effective to trade them for the lotus, sell the lotus and not bother with the alchemy at all.

So how are we supposed to get 605 in alch ? Guess thats the Riddle...

Oh my Gosh I've been working so hard to get my alchemy up to be able to do this and I just got it! HOORAY! I wouldn't have been able to do it so quickly without the helpful comments and guides I've found on this website. Thanks wowhead!

How get this recipe?
I already level up to max in MoP alchemy,

For those using TSM who are trying to learn this recipe. The game will not show you the recipes you discover as you discover them with the crafting window set to TSM mode. They still show up in the crafting window, but there is no indication you learned them. I crafted over 200 Alchemist Rejuvination potions and thought I didn't learn a single recipe. Un-checked "Have materials" and there they all were.

It is learned via discovery. So keep making other Pandaren Alchemy recipes that say that you have a chance to learn a new recipe. You will eventually discover it.

I was just here to find out if this has MORE of a chance to proc than the one with daily CD... I proc 38% of the time with riddle. I proc 5% with regular. Those stats are from making 100 of each.

Since the addition of Sky Golem the price of Living Steel has gone up enough to make using your Spirits of Harmony for Riddle of Steel more cost effective than turning them into Golden Lotus, selling the Lotus and buying the Living Steel on the AH. (At least on my server, YMMV)

It's actually both. You start +15 higher, but your ability actually maxes out with the +15, i.e. you don't actually max alchemy as a goblin at 600, you max at 615 and that's when you get the achievement.

Today when I made my living steel, I discovered recipy for Flask of Pure Death. I guess discoveries thourgh riddle of steel was added patch 5.2 as this is the first time I discover anything by doing it.

And as of 6.0.2, both the motes and Spirits are no longer BOP.

spent 20k still no riddle steel hard to get mats from mop in wod.... make Alchemist's Rejuvenation

I learned all of the extra MoP recipes including Riddle of Steel within making 75 Alchemist's Rejuvenation, plenty cheap Green Tea Leaf on AH these days.

I've made around 20 so far and no proc from my xmute alchemy spec. It may be a lower proc rate than other proc related transmutes.

I followed the above advice about planting songbell seeds. 3 toons, 16 plots each = 48 "Motes of harmony" = 4.8 "Spirit of harmony" per day just from farming. OP's right, it adds up fast!

You can learn this from creating MoP flasks.

Crafted 236 as a transmutation master, ended up with 275 - you have to be lucky to get procs

dont know if they buffed it, but I learned this after 4 potions I made, 30 more and got transmute living steel as well as many other recipes in the meantime

I am guessing they will have some sort of item to increase it. I highly doubt they would make this for goblins only.

Also isn't the +15 Alch for goblins only so that they start at alch lvl 16? At least I had engineering 16 and NOT 1+15 when I created a gnome, although that was in patch 4.1 so not sure if they've changed it.

Re-confirm. I am still level 84 and did a transmute, learning living steel. Then I immediately created a living steel through transmute and immediately learned this, pushing me to Alchemy 600.

when will you no longer get skill up for this? I am saving some for when the next exp comes out. thanks

Is there a list of all the learnable recipes you can get through this?

My Alchy hasn't learnt a new recipe for some time.
