Learning the Goblin Mortar schematic (http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=12716) from your Goblin engineering trainer will teach you this schematic as well.

This reloads an empty Goblin Mortar. Warning - May cause the mortar to explode.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Before you do what I did and stock up on mithril and solid stone having read this far and no further, please note the goblin mortar reload no longer gives you skill ups when grey! This was a bug which, sadly, has been fixed. Looks like its the expensive route for the rest of us!

If this is true, then reload inside a building with a low ceiling. No height to fly, no fall dmg, no durability loss. Since an Anvil is required a good place to do this would be the blacksmith in Kharanos for Alliance. Ceiling is max. 2m high ;)

To clarify: if you repeatedly reload your mortar in order to level engineering, you're quite likely to have it explode and kill you more than once. Happened to me three times in 20 skillups on this "green" recipe. Strip before you load!

As of 15th of May 2007 this still works for me. Avg explode dmg is 4000dmg to 8340 max. Explode is around 10% Tip if your like me and have over 10k hp get a mage to summon u a bunch of food. Mithril goes for 5g a stack on my server Soild stone 50s a stack Takes 6x Solid stone and 1 mithril to make. thats 37s per craft. On avg 3/4 crafts to get skill up. Did this from 280 to 375. So doing the math, thats around 1g20s per skill up. 100g to go from 280ish to 380ish is awesome :)

No, just got hit for +9k dmg but my mortar is still eqiuped. Lost some blasting powder. "Can you reload other people's mortars? Since the Mortar is BoE, it seems like this should work ... but I can't see quite how to do it." When you use the mortar it gets soulbound. So no, you can't trade it.

The highest explosion I've had was 9996. As I was too shy to be standing at the Ironforge forge naked, Warriors like me might want to be wearing their tanking gear rather than dps!

If the reload explodes and you don't die, remember to bandage or eat. On one occasion I had two explosions with two successive attempts, and you don't want this to happen on less than full health.

You can carry out the reloading of the mortar without equipping it - so if its brand new, you can keep the item BoE then sell it or pass it on to a friend.

ROFL! was making them in IF and it trew me down the lava:(
some mortars later it exploded again and crit me!

"Your Reload Explode crits you for 19750 Fire damage."

better equip some fire res gear....
Best way to lvl engineering anyways.

Yus, it does. I've just had it happen to my shaman in Stormwind. There were a few up and coming engineers/smiths in the forging area, and I didn't think anything of it while reloading my mortar. Next thing you know, all you see was dead bodies. ;) O'course they reduced to asking what happened, and a less than polite way; but I couldn't answer them, in care of I was laughing too hard. :p Be wary of making a http://www.wowhead.com/?item=23826 though. Rumour has it, you can wipe out a small town if it blows up on you. (Making a Bigger one, it blew, the screen shook, more than half of Honour Hol

OK, so I'm a 230 or so goblin engineer, and made a mortar. Once I used it up I went to a forge to reload it but I couldn't find a reload spell or anything to do so. How exactly do you go about reloading a moartar?

49362+0via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

Used this for 50 points to 375, didnt expload once, got skillup every 3rd atempt up to 375, then i got skillup every 3rd to 4th atempt.

But got a lot of questions why I was standing around naked crafting in Shattrath... :)

I don't know that you can use the Mortar itself without equipping it, and if you aren't using it then you shouldn't need to reload it, but yes, as long as you have it in your bags you can reload it. Of course this spell actually creates a NEW Goblin Mortar, which are themselves BoE. So even though it becomes soulbound when you use it, you can reload it and then trade it to a friend or try selling it on the AH.

I confirm that the bug is fixed. I just reloaded my mortar 20 times at 325 skill level and did not receive a single skill point. It also did not explode once, so apparently the rate of explosions has been lowered as well (or removed entirely).

Some voice in the back of my head told me to do the reload skill ups before the patch, but unfortunately I ignored it ;-). Well, it was cheating anyway...

Well I'm glad that I'm not the only one this has happened to. My blood elf hunter got one-shot by this for around 8k (he's only level 51) in Shattrath City. I think I took durability loss from it too, but this was a while ago so it sounds like that's since been changed.

I guess all that irks me about it now is "Too bad there weren't any alliance nearby." That would've been hilarious if I killed them too.

On that note, does anyone know if this will damage players nearby if it explodes? I would think it could since it looked like an AoE, but maybe both you and they would have to be flagged for PvP or something, I don't know?

I've got the same problem. I had 225 Engineering when I reached lvl 30, and had all the materials to complete the Goblin Engineering quests on the spot. I bought all the formulas the Goblin Engineer would sell me, including the Goblin Mortar. I made a Goblin Mortar, but upon going to reload it, I have found no such spell as "The Mortar: Reloaded", in any of the ability menus, nor in engineering formulas I have available. I tried looking at the empty trinket, but it offers me no help. I've talked to both Goblin Engineering trainers, the one in Ratchet and the one in Gagetzen, but they offer me

This schematic requires a Goblin Mortar. You take an empty one, refurbish it with this schematic, and you end up with a loaded one. Of course, I'm not leveling a new Goblin Engineer so I couldn't tell you if you can or cannot learn this any longer.

Eamane+0via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

Well, it 'was' supposed to be a schematic that was automatically learned as soon as you were taught Goblin Mortar. But, from what I am hearing, it seems that Blizzard managed to bugger that up with their last update.

Ok, quite a few people have mentioned the problem of not having this recipe but no one has mentioned the fix. I ran into the problem of having to recipe to reload my mortar as well and was at first quite confused. However all u have to do is return to the goblin engineering trainer and click on the the thing to learn secret engineering schemeta and u will see that ur able to learn how to make goblin mortar again for just a few silver. upon clicking on it u will recieve the reload spell. goodluck all and rate up if this helped u plz.

I wouldn't call it cheating... there should be a reward for taking the risk of blowing yourself up, it just happened to be dirt cheap skillups in this case.

It's going to be a pain to level engineering without this trick, I should have used it on my alt before it got fixed, ah well.
