Kick is used to disrupt any spell being cast and prevents any spell in that school from being cast. This is a very important rogue skill, most people just kick whenever someone is casting a spell, but rogues should be more wise about using it.

When dueling a priest it is most effective to kick them while healing not while they are casting a mindblast or something like that. Because it only prevents spells from one school to be cast a priest could still heal even after being kicked as long and he/she wans casting a healing spell. However if it was a shadow priest is it good to kick for just about any spell because all they can cast is shadow spells and some other instant casts.

Kick can also be useful in another way if you get improved kick in the combat tree. This talent changes what kick can be used for, the talent also silences the caster for 4 seconds which can stop any school of spell and you don't have to disrupt a spell for this to work. So you can go into a fight with a cheap shot and kick right when it is about to end to prevent a caster from using a spell to get away, like frost nova or fear. It can also be used when you think a caster is almost dead and is going to try something to get away or heal, if you kick when they are low on health you can sometimes kill them before they get out of silence.

Another important thing you have to remember about kick is that it still needs energy to use. Luckily it only takes 20 energy so you can still use other abilities without worry of not having enough, but you can run out of energy, so make sure to save some energy when you think you'll have to kick. This skill is pretty easy to use you just have to remember to use it at the right time and make sure you have enough energy to use it at the right time. And now since Blizzard added an enemy casting bar to the game you can know when you need to use it.

Keep in mind that if you interrupt a Priest's Smite it still locks out their Holy school (including heals). If you kick a Paladin and lock out their Holy school, they can't do anything - every Paladin spell is Holy based (even Divine Shield, the so-called "bubble"). This is especially effective against Druids and Shamans as well. Druids will still have their Arcane school, but that only includes Moonfire and Starfire - none of their utility spells. Shamans who get their Nature spells locked out can barely cast anything - only a few like Flame Shock, Frost Shock, Ghost Wolf, and Gift of the

The function of this skill is obvious...kick casters to stop them from casting their spell. As for timing: get a casting bar mod or use the new blizzard UI for it...don't just go kicking casters randomly because it's likely you won't even get them while they're casting.

and ignore the screenshot...I accidentally uploaded a screenshot of eviscerate...

I still remember the good old days Kick did 15 damage next to his interruption effect...
Used to use it as a finishing move in PvP back then, just to see them die of a single kick while being stabbed a few hundred times.
Good times, good times.

It should be noted that this is the only ability that rogues have that doesn't do damage but still will get someone in combat (Besides blind). Useful for feral druids or rogues to keep them in combat when a CC is about to fall off. To make sure you don't break the CC you have on the guy with white hits, use a focus macro like:

#showtooltip Kick
/cast [@focus, exists] Kick; Kick

With a macro like that, it will kick your focus when you have one, or work regularly when you don't. Abuse it and show your true ninja skill.

With the Kick cooldown upped to 15 seconds from 10 this will simply be a much worse version of the original Kick. In theory, the spells are the same with and without glyph and the lockout is still 5 seconds. Previously however this 5 seconds lockout didn't seem to work on PvE bosses. I haven't tested the new Kick yet, but perhaps they changed this.

The addition of the new [spell=26679] however, can make infinite interrupting and locking possible if you use all your maxed combo points on Deadly Throw. Decent trade-off, really, rogues turned slightly more tactical.

I just did the quest kickin nass and takin manes and i just saw my gnome warlock do a backflip. I nearly fell off my chair. Now im told by gnome rogues, that that is their kick animation. Gnome rogue players must laugh every time they kick a caster. So funny.

In Cataclysm does Kick still prevent spells in the interrupted spell school from being cast for 5 seconds? The tooltip is not clear on that.

The tooltip now says: "Interrupts a spell being cast by enemy. Best used to prevent enemies from healing or using high-damage spells."

Also I'd like to mention that the Bloodthirsty Gladiator's Leather Gloves and the Vicious Gladiator's Leather Gloves reduce the energy required for Kick to 5 energy. That is quite handy ;)

Yea, pretty much when you see casting animation it means kick time, and with imp kick they are also silenced, good against those annoying priests that like to heal themselves so often, making the death of casters, faster and more likely.

First off, the talent only allows for 2 seconds of silence, making it subpar. Second, Shadow priests can cast holy spells in shadow form. They just lose the buff as they start to cast. o.O It also says that it takes 25 energy, not 20.

the effect (interrupts spellcasting and prevents) is supposed to be nerfed if this skill is spammed?...

like cyclone or stun for expamle... that after a few spams u become immune to cyclone or stun...

im wondering if that happens... and after a few kick spams u can obtain total immunity to this effect for a couple of secs...

well just that.. thx

If you are smart you should only use kick when you see a caster about to shoot sumthing at you or when you see a paladin without himself being bubbled or a priest from getting healed. The main purpose of this awesome skill.
