As a tank I can only offer the following advice to all the rogues who love this "opener": please don't when you're in a group. We count on the rage we get from the initial blows to maintain aggro. If they are stunned and people start attacking we'll quickly loose aggro and have to taunt (which has a cool down, contrary to popular belief) the target to regain aggro.

As a rogue, I agree. I'll usually open with a soft opener like Garrote on the main target in groups. Does direct damage through armor, and doesnt immediately spike me on the threat lists
One of the best and most useful openers in the game. with dirty deeds it can be reduced to 40 energy, and initiative it has a 75% chance to give you 3 combo points. The opener for a stunlock.
