Note that this only works on "hostile" corpses, so you will not be able to eat members of your own faction. :P
I make most of my characters undead for this spell
I mean, its not just the fact that your devouring your dead enemy like some rapid zombie, but also that my rogue usually forgets to get food, and i can survive off of just bandages and this - its great.EDIT-
SUBWAY: EAT FLESH

The hunter would get quite a suprise ^^
And this means: No tauren burgers for us :(
hello clarise...
Part of grinding while leveling is the downtime to regenerate health and mana. This racial is a nice supplement to levelers that cant afford or somehow acquire food.
The real beauty of this ability, in my opinion, is PvP. Especially in world PvP, encounters or NPC interferance can come one after the other where it is imperative to get your health/mana back up between fights and this is a quick and easy way to do it, especially with pot cooldowns and bandage debuffs.
The other benefit of this ability in PvP is the pure hillarity/insult/what-have-you of eating someones corpse after youv'e defeated them. Especially when they don't release and watch you do it ^_^
No, you can't cannibalize a hunter that feigns death, lol. Only truly dead humanoids.
You don't have to click on your corpse target, it just have to be within 5 yards
This is actually immensely helpful to mages. You can cannibalize mid-battle and get a significant part of your health back.
If you try to Cannibalize while under the effect of Metamorphosis you get the message "Must be in Ghoul" >_>
Now that the body-to-meat function is in place in the game with the addition to Corpse Explosion, I think it would be great if they added it into this racial. :)
Make sure to turn on Cannibalize. It can really save on your downtime!
It's also a great way to reward yourself after completing a hard quest, *cough*like the final "At war with the scarlet crusade" quests *cough* and perhaps to rub it in the face of some alliance... Just pounce on their freshly killed corpse
Get it while it's warm!
Ew...
You used to be able to cannibalize through dots, but the new patch changed that : /
Then comes the Gnome with Orb of Deception... Ooh, yummy!
One meal I would Suggest EVERY Undead to feast on is Lich King. Revenge tastes SO SWEET!
Not as useful for priests and mages, but it certainly is nice for rogues and warriors and Life Tap-happy warlocks. Also, with heavy +sta gear, can be even better than food - a 6000HP warrior will regen 2100 health in 10 seconds.
Night Elf Hunters taste like chicken.
Being able to cannibalize mid-battle is useful for me with all my undead toons. In long raid battles it's fantastic to put into your healing rotation. Bandages, potions, cannibalize, trinkets, and all the other things one can use to help heal/regen and continue fighting.
Being able to use this ability while still engaged in combat is fantastic. Useful for every UD player.
As of Cataclysm, this will restore mana along with health.
Hooray! You should get a bonus mana from eating gnomes, since they're so full of energy and protein.
It's still useful for priests as it saves mana and can be used in shadowform, where they can't cast their healing spells.
Haha incase nobody knew this....if your polymorphed into some other thing for a quest....like being a human in OHB(Old hillsbrad foothills) Then if you cannibalize in any form other then undead....your character just does a /kneel motion and it plays the cannibalize sound

this is equal to a teabag in a battleground i must say
PWN
This is awesome for a warlock. Why? Because the warlock uses up so much mana it has life tap. When life tap is used too much just use cannibalise instead of food, if you used food your wasting ur guys money on buying food. Cannabalism is the right way to go!
If you are grouped with hunter with cunning pet, be sure to share dinner with it
I've just discovered via WoW model viewer that Troll males actually have a "Cannibalize" animation...
As of 4.0.1 this now restores mana and health in equal %'s making it a substantially powerful racial, especially with the apparently removal of will of the forsaken(or at least I cannot find my Will on my undead in any of his spellbook pages or other tabs). 35% health and total mana pool is Nicceee~
It's like a glyphed evocation, just slighty weaker.
Really enjoying this on my priest, it's just amazing.
I was annoyed to find out that using Cannabalize puts most other potions on a 6 min cooldown. WHY? This is a racial trait that is essentially a means to restore some health it has no other benefit only a quirky gift to the undead. I might as well have rolled a human to carry a stack of non-buff food around in my bag, at least then I could use some other potions eg. mana, swim or run speed to name a few. I'v had my rant, maybe a Blizz employee will read this and do something that makes sense.
Cannibalize can be used in combat.
Actually you CAN, they just can't release spirit yet As my Mage after a group wipe (warlock accidently soulstoned ME instead of Healer), I cannibalized our tank.... He was the only one who didn't release lol
the way I heard it, back when wow was on beta, blizz considered giving this racial to trolls, since ya know they are the ones wiht canibalistic background, but they already had berserking, and having this would be kinda unfair, so they knocked that out and gave this to the next creepy race on the line, forsaken.
I don't get why people downrated this guy, I think it's a wonderfull idea. corpse explotion transforms any corpse blowed up into a gory red pile of meat, or a clean picked set of bones. wouldn't it be like much more cool if after eating the corpse of your fallen foe, he/she watches how you turned their corpse into a mess? it would be cool indeed.
Yeah, this IS useful for warriors they take a lot of damage, useful for mages they have little health and need less downtime, useful for rogues they aren't very durable either, useful for locks cause we life tap lots, and health funnel, and its usable IN combat!? well thats something I didn't know about, now that I do...well its now a bit cooler than I thought it was, not very useful for priests though, they can heal themselves
Thats because trolls are a cannibalistic race in World of Warcraft. Look up the Troll lore on the WoW wesbite, you'll see why. Heh.
Cannibalize doesn't count as a "self-healing ability" for the purposes of the new Field Dressing Arms Warrior talent. It acts like the heal is from someone else, and thus boosts Cannibalize by only six percent.
As of 4.0.3 it also returns mana.
Great racial, fitting the Forsaken AND useful.
I once wondered why forsaken can't use this on all corpses, but only humanoid and undead.
why not a tasty boar?
then it hit me, eating anything is just devouring, eating something sentient, humanoid that resembles to you, it's canibalize.
Very handy for a prot warrior, when it takes 3 pieces of the highest level food to get to the full health >_<
A way to see the troll "Cannibalize" emote is to use this spell while under the effects of the Darkspear Pride. The emote is rather unique; you use both arms to shovel the meat in, and occasionally raise one arm as if snapping off a limb.
Rogues can stealth while cannibalizing, here's a useful macro.
#showtooltip Cannibalize
/cast Cannibalize
/cast Stealth
And also because the Darkspear trolls don't practice cannibalism anymore after they joined the Horde. ;)
Reading rankkorr's comment above, the first thing that came to mind was: "...and having this would be kinda unfair, so they knocked that out and gave this to the next creepy race on the line,
Forsaken.Gnomes."
And assuming that this racial and the cunning pet racial make it through the cataclysm, Undead Hunters will be able to chow down with their pets!
As forsaken disc priest healer, i've found an extreme valuable racial ability. 35% of your manapool, potentially every 2 minutes!
In PvE raiding content, you can almost eat any dead add, although boss adds despawn very quickly, it wont interrupt the channeling when despawning. It helped me a lot back in Cataclysm on Alysrazor (the druids). When its off CD, and i would like some extra mana, i just spam some shields, and going brb 10secs for dinner! ;)
Example Siege of Ogrimmar boss fights where it can be used:
The Fallen Protectors
Galakras
General Nazgrim
Spoils of Pandaria
Thok the Bloodthirsty
Paragons of the Klaxxi
And the orc adds of the Garrosh Hellscream encounter.
Hunter says: What the... ! D:
This has to be the best possible racial a mage can have in arenas for 2v2. Once you kill one enemy. Polymorph the other, cannibalize the enemy you killed, and ta-dah! You just restored 35% of your health. Add an evocation (with glyph of evocation ofcourse) and you just restored all of your health!
now you can be undead hunters with an undead hawk :) great combo, enjoy mealing with you birdie
I was surprised, while questing in Netherstorm on my Undead Rogue, I cam across some Zaxxis Raiders, killed a few and found out i had no food. lucky Cannibalize does work on these guys and Yes I know it says they are Humanoids but like some other racials or spells there is sometimes a catch but lucky there isn't for Cannibalize
It's a shame this isn't truly usable due to how limited it is.
Would be better if Forsaken could just use this in place of non-buff food. Being limited to Humanoids and Undead is quite the limitation as it is let alone all the other ones.
