Jewelcrafting can be one of the hardest (and most expensive) professions in the game to skill up. 5 levels (now 10 as of Patch 4.0.1) didn't sound like much of a springboard for Jewelcrafting, so i didn't see just how beneficial this trait would be until i realized the following:
This passive trait functions as if it were a "buff." Even though your skill level is increased by ten with this trait, the level at which items change in crafting difficulty (Orange - guaranteed skill up, Yellow - high chance skill up, Green - mid chance skill up, Gray - too bad, so sad) is based on your ACTUAL jewelcrafting level, and not your BUFFED jewelcrafting level.
For example:
An item that switches from a yellow level item to a green level item at JC 230 will not turn green for you until JC 240 even though you can still go ahead and learn new skills at JC 240.
Simply put, this will keep an item in the orange / yellow / green zone 10 levels longer than it normally would. When trying to grind up your JC, this is huge. Less failed skill ups means less time farming mats, less gold spent on buying mats, and a heck of a lot faster progress through the profession.

"Yes, they are real. And, they can cut glass."
To date, there are no jewelcrafting recipes that would necessitate a skill greater than 375 to use. However, this ability will allow jewelcrafters to use recipes sooner than they would have been able to without it.
The way the racial works for your skill:
- New Character/Apprentice: Start at 6, cap at 80.
- Journeyman: Increases cap from 8 to 155
- Expert: Increases cap from 155 to 230
- Artisan: Increases cap from 230 to 305
- Master: Increases cap from 305 to 380
Also of note: You still need to be at skill level "375" to use recipes requiring 375 skill. The effect of this racial is that it takes you 10 fewer skill-ups before you reach 375 Jewelcrafting.
