The following gems can be transmuted by an Alchemist without a cooldown. The link is to a blue post confirming what Alchemists on the PTR are experiencing. I have xmuted dozens in a row and the lack of CD is not a bug. So, expect the epic gems to come more into a reasonable line as far as prices go after a few weeks of the patch.(6/30/09) Build 10048: The 20 hour CD has been placed on epic xmutes and significant changes have been made to the materials required. The information below has been updated as of the stated build.

As of 5.0.4, these epic gem xmutes still have a cooldown that reset at midnight.
No, it does not. This doesn't say that it grants kill credit for NPC 28701. This, and the other four transmutes grant credit toward the quest for Transmute: Cardinal Ruby, which requires that you transmute any combination of the 5 epic gems. "Kill Credit" is just a server-side script that grants you progress on your quest.
Tooltip
Transmute the element of life and a Autumn's Glow into King's Amber.

As of patch 4.0.1, the cooldown for epic gem transmutes resets at midnight, server time, regardless of when you perform the spell. This effectively makes the CD a static 24 hours, but allows you to perform it anytime during your day.
As of patch 4.0.1 epic transmutes are not taught by any of the grand master alchemy trainers. if you find where you can get it let me know.
As of 4.0.3 these transmutes are STILL on the 24 hour cooldown timer despite the fact that they are completely obsolete.
This is available from and master alchemy trainer
You can buy the ability to transmute the gems by the vendor like any other skills they sell. Only the red gem is required to do the qeust handed out (it will take 5 x 20 hours to complete it).
Anyone else notice the typo in the description?
It says "a Autumn's Glow" where it should say "an Autumn's glow".Also, this one only says "into King's Amber" instead of "into a King's Amber", as it would if it followed the pattern of the others. This is obviously intended, though.
6.2 Still has a daily cool down, one that it shares with Transmute: Savage Blood. Seeing as blizz removed the justice vendors these are now relatively hard to get for Jeeves or twinks.
Confirmed that entering a GM ticket fixes the problem. I had the exact same experience as Etain when I entered mine. Thanks for the advice! The upside is you don't have to pay for the recipes.
Actually, its quite usefull still if you wanna 70 twink. The honor vendor dont sell anymore, emblem of heroism vendor do though, so only ways we can still get this is titanium ore prospect, this and justice points. (220 justice points, so 3 boss kills per gem if you got +10% increased trough guild perks)
i confirm that as of patch 8.2.5 it still has a daily cool down :(
im looking for this too.. anyone knows something about it ?
I just got my druid's alch to 450 and after seeing this bug petitioned a GM. My ticket was escalated and within 48 hours I had a GM whisper me asking me to hop onto another toon while they fixed the issue for me. It took about two minutes and then when I logged back on I had the transmutes in my recipe list. Didn't even have to pay to learn them. If you need screen shots, I'll post them, but it's too annoying to post them otherwise. I'll be reposting this on the other epic gem transmutes.
The JC vendor sells these for honor points in 5.3 still. They are still very useful, especially if you have a JC to cut them, considering lev 70 pvp gear has 5 yellow sockets. Not only that, but they could be socketed with a red cardinal ruby cut. I had a total of 20x 20 agil gems on my lv69 rogue. That is +400 agility! I am currently fooling around with a dk, just got my full (almost) pvp set and I am currently gemming and enchanting. Mind you, this set may only out do the BoAs for a level or 2, but I have a ton of JP to blow from my 90s. :o)
just a quick note. +20 resil = aprox 0.5%. Just a rough calculation, based on my current resil / resil % from gear. (actually 20.64 = 0.5% at level 70) but what the heck, eh? Sorry if it isn't exact and only an approximation, but it will give a general idea at least of what you can expect. Edit.. I just finished socketing my gems. With full lv70 pvp gear (less the boots.[item=34807]) I ended up with 49.12 resil. 40% plus 9.12% from gear and gems.
I know NOTHING about alchemy so will this be available for purchase for alchemists, or is it a drop? I ask because, as an engineer, this is the ONLY thing I don't have for Jeeves so I'm trying to be as prepared as possible (ie, find an alchemist and have him/her make this for me ASAP).
TIA
Which vendor?
hilariously enough, in the spell mechanics it says it grants Kill Credit for NPC 28701
