This recipe can in fact crit for multiple Truegold bars, I received 5 from my transmute today having only ever seen it crit for 2 in the past.
I am transmutation master for the record, and will upload a screen shot when I get time.

EDIT: I noticed how many 5x crit comments have been down rated, but I was also curious like others as to whether it could crit for more than 2 at a time.
[Speculation and people telling me otherwise]
Don't purge, or people wont see it's already been said.

Truegold can crit for 5 on an individual transmute for transmutation masters.

For those transmute masters who were wondering, the bonus Truegold doesn't seem to occur often. I made all 5 of my 80-85s transmute masters so I could run a little experiment over 10 days.

Day 1 Truegold 5 Procs 0
Day 2 Truegold 6 Procs 1
Day 3 Truegold 5 Procs 0
Day 4 Truegold 5 Procs 0
Day 5 Truegold 7 Procs 2
Day 6 Truegold 5 Procs 0
Day 7 Truegold 6 Procs 1
Day 8 Truegold 5 Procs 0
Day 9 Truegold 6 Procs 1
Day 10 Truegold 5 Procs 0

Total Truegold: 55
Total Procs: 5
So over 10 days, with 5 transmute masters, I made exactly 10% more truegold then I normally would. Kind of a low. I'd also like to add that I never once had a second character get a proc (on day 5, my Shaman made 3), So out of the 50 times I made a transmute, I only got 4 actual procs. Making the transmute mastery for this only seem to have about a 8% chance or so to activate..

Update
Day 11 Truegold 5 Procs 0
Day 12 Truegold 5 Procs 0
Day 13 Truegold 5 Procs 0
Day 14 Truegold 5 Procs 0
Day 15 Truegold 5 Procs 0
New total Truegold: 80
Total Procs: 5
New overall proc percentage: 4%
Individual Character Proc percentage: 6.6%
The more I transmute Truegold the less it seems worth it, as the Truegold is almost selling for as much or less then the materials to make it on my server, and the chance of getting a second or third appears to be a very low chance (For me at least, apparently there are people who get 5 procs, yet I'm lucky to even get a single proc for 2 after 6 days with 5 characters)

I also suspect if any of my characters ever do get a 5 Truegold proc, it will be my warrior as he has yet to get a proc these past 15 days. Good luck to all you Transmuters, and I hope my little charts give you useful, if not interesting information at the least. I will update this for 5 more days to get the full 20. Hopefully I can report some good news by then other then 6 straight days of nothing. :(

Super Update:
Day 16 Truegold 5 Procs 0
Day 17 Truegold 7 Procs 2
Day 18 Truegold 7 Procs 2
Day 19 Truegold 5 Procs 0
Day 20 Truegold 8 Procs 3

New New Total Truegold: 112
New New Total Procsss: 12
Proc chance 12/100 or 12%
All characters made an additional 2 truegold except my shaman who made 3, and my druid who made 3 (And by this I mean total additional Truegold)
Individual character proc percentage 10% (Druid/Shaman: 15%)
Thanks everyone for reading, hope this information is helpful. No longer going to update this, as I think 100 truegold transmutes is plenty of testing.

Super Final Update.
On day 24 I got my first transmute for 5 truegold. (Thats 120 times Transmute: Truegold was casted) This means so far that its a .83% chance for a 5 proc of truegold. (with this string of information anyway)

Question: Why would old transmutes such as primal might and titanium not have a cool down (CD) but old elemental transmutes such as eternal air to Earth have one that is shared with the new Cataclysm CDs? Answer: Primal might and titanium are one way transmutes. Elemental transmutes can go either way. Without the CD and with transmutation mastery, you could start with, say an eternal Earth and transmute it to an eternal air and transmute it back to eternal Earth and back again all day long. Every so often 5 instead of 1 would transmute and you could end up with a few thousand eternal air in a

My google-fu is failing me here, what cata alchemy cooldowns are shared? I can transmute blue quality gems all day long, no cd. Last night I transmuted a wotlk epic gem and that triggered the cooldown on living elements. I've read the Truegold and pyrite xmutes currently share a cd; is Living Elements on the Truegold/Pryrite cd as well?

My main issue here is that any transmutes that shares a cd with Truegold has no use. In wotlk, the eternals xmutes shared a cd with epic gem xmute...which meant no one ever used them. Now they have this excellent living elements mechanic (random vs traveling to a specfic zone), and no ones going to bother once they get Truegold, if they do indeed share a cd.

Can anyone shed some light on which xmutes share cooldowns?

Except you are incorrect. Truegold is used by TWO professions: Blacksmithing and Engineering. As such, it should be a smelting ability - not Alchemy. Furthermore, it's creating an extremely difficult bottleneck in gear progression right now since it shares the CD with the Volatiles.

This should have been put on the Mining list. Keep the Volatile transmutes where they are, with the CD they have. Spread out the wealth and the profession usefullness.

Unfortunately Alchemy has been a contributor in every expansion in one way or another, and I don't know what the prices are on your server, but the volitile transmute on our server is worthless because the material cost is higher than the output, same with just about every other transmute.

The reason they didn't give it to mining is because mining has a decent cashflow just for selling any smelted or raw material on the AH for Blacksmiths and Jewlcrafters alike.

To avoid any trouble about who keeps the additional bars in case of a proc I'm currenty letting my (highly mobile but not an alchemist) mage offering a truegold transmutation service. It's a single transaction trade btw.
/script SendChatMessage("Offering \124cffffd000\124Henchant:80243\124h[Alchemy: Transmute: Truegold]\124h\124r service. Trade a bar against your mats + 100g tip. /w me (might have more, discount 5g on ++bars down to 75g per bar at 6).","CHANNEL",nil,"2")
So far this method seems to work out nicely.

Update: Slight improvement of message text --> 1 bar 100g tip. 2 bars 95g tip each, 3 bars 90g tip each, ...
Update: I actually sold 6 bars the other day and I think that overall discount should be limited to 25% per bar ...

It depends on how you look at it. The daily transmute cooldowns had a high value per proc, but Elixir specs always made far more cash than transmuters if your economy could support the volume of items you would sell.

It's a throwback to Arcanite Bars and Primal Might. Titansteel was specifically used for metal crafting (blacksmithing and engineering), but Arcanite Bars and Primal Might were used by everything, same as this.

The cooldown seems to have been removed with WoW 5.0 did random login/logout to do my "daily" transmute and by mistake i double clicked and made two in a row. then i clicked again without problems.

The price on Truegold will be lowered insanely with this change so sell while you can. =)

In my realm, 1 truegold is about 530g buyout. all mats are about 891g buyout. i asked an alchemist to make some for me (as a test) and they said 530g... i don't know if that is just 1 unintelligent alchemist or if it represents my whole server(Cenarion Circle). Most likely, and to stay on the safe side, it would be worth it to buy it on the AH.

Hope this helps.

Personally, I think Blizzard did an incredible job of making alchemists a GREAT profession, and balancing the market.

As this spell shares a cooldown with Transmute: Living Elements, and Transmute: Truegold was valued over Transmute: Living Elements, no one would ever use the Living Elements transmute. However, as we all know, one volatile would always get too expensive. (50g Volatile Airs anyone?)

As most of us know, you can go to the respective zone (Hyjal - Fire) (Deepholm - Earth) (Uldum - Air) (Vash'jir - Water) to get a volatile of your choice, so this spell, Transmute: Living Elements, essentially always gives you the Volatile you want. (The one that gives you the most gold)

Because of this, alchemists ALWAYS make money. Back when Truegold was the s***, if all the Volatiles were reasonably priced, you'd make great gold from Truegold, especially with procs. They aren't moderately priced, though? Use Living Elements, and make great use of the cheap Volatile Life that exists on every server, or the herbalist that you raised to 525 with alchemy. Either way, alchemists always make money, and they always will.

And that, my friend, is one example of why Alchemy is the best profession in World of Warcraft.

To be completely fair, I have all my transmute masters stationed in completely different cities. Priest: Undercity, Procs 2 Shaman: Thunderbluff, Procs 2 Warrior: Silvermoon City, Procs 1 [Warrior got his first Proc today, but only for two truegold] Druid: Orgrimmar, Procs 2 Death Knight: Dalaran, Procs 2 As you can see, the result is almost the exact same in every city, except my Warrior (who I might also add, had to kill 117 elite mobs with a supposed 50% drop rate for a quest item) and I doubt its the city that has any influence on it.

Currently on my server ( Alexatrasza US) it is completely unprofitable to create Truegold barring some lucky Transmutation Master procs. Furthermore, Transmute: Living Elements has a higher profit margin, shown by some simple napkin math:

Mats for truegold are about 500 gold. Truegold sells for about 425. According to the Accepted rate that Transmutation Master lets you create 20% more of the product, over the course of 5 days I would have 6 Truegold for the price of 5. Thus, i would have spent 2500g and sold the results for about 2550, a profit of 10g a day.

On the other hand, Living Elements takes 15 Volatile Life, which at around 10g per would cost 150g. By transmuting these to Volatile Water, which sells for about 22g each, I would make a profit of about 180g a day, before factoring Transmutation Master procs.

TL;DR: With current market prices on my server at least, Living Elements transmute is more profittable than Truegold. Check your AHs to see what will be the best in your market.

Note: prices will probably change (go up) over the next weeks as people get more recipes and the Firelands drops needed to craft their gear.

yes until now. but I think this will change once the most raiding guilds have acess to the flask cauldrons. this will lower the overall flask consumption. and also if you take a look at the mats required for a single flask, which are by far a lot more than in pre cata (in numbers). also you benefit from transmutation master when you transmute gems, which has no cd. and since transmuting them is the only reliable source right now to get blue gems, I think its realy worth it.

Thanks for the concise response. I wonder if there is a system reason they group all these together on 1 cd? It doesn't seem op to have separate 24hr cooldowns for things like truegold and living elements. I guess this makes stacking xmuters even more necessary.

Unlike some other non-gathering professions, there is no trainer or recipes in phased content. You can learn recipes up to 525 in your faction's home city. Edit: This was simply to clarify that while 525 alchemy requires level 75 to learn you can learn recipes to level all the way to the cap without having to go to phased vendors at level 84. Blacksmithing, leatherworking, and tailoring require you to complete part of the Twilight Highlands to get recipes to level up to 525. Jewelcrafting requires dailies but does not have a level requirement to pick up those quests. Jewelcrafters also can ge

Well , it doesnt make sense to sell cd for 50-100g unless you are transmutation master. On my realm , 1 volatile life costs 3~g and 1 volatile air sells for 20~g and guaranteed to proc when living elements used in uldum . Approximate profit is : 17x15= 255g.

Is being Transmutations master going to help in Ultra high level transmutations like this one?
Because if it is it will be a big benefit.
Plus i suspect all alchemists dropping their mastery to get transmutation;)

166755+0via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

Thanks for your info. I have four transmute masters and have been transmuting a long time. I used to do quite well with multiples of Truegold. However, that has dropped off considerably this past month. I haven't seen even a double in a couple weeks. The mats are too costly to not get the extra's. And, this apparent cut back will only increase their price. I will be watching ti see if it is more beneficial to sell the mats than to use them for Truegold.

This is all very sound, just wanted to mention for thsoe that don't know alchemy as well as others that the Living Elements Transmute: Living Elements can be any Volatile element randomly, and if one is careful with the market prices, they can be out a lot of gold. On the other hand, with a little bit of simple herb gathering Volatile Life can be gathered from ANY Cataclysm-level herb. Since you only need 15 per day this is a simple process and it will give you some herb to make money with on the side, too. It should go without saying that if you collect your own, ANY result = profit. Enjoy. :)

I saw that this transmute resets at 12:00am while I was leveling alch around 11:30pm tonight. I kicked it into high gear and gathered all the mats to hit 525 to do a quick transmute before the reset. I did a truegold transmute at 11:50pm for someone for 200g and got 3 extra from transmutation mastery! lol..... so lucky
