Overview

Ragefire Chasm is the first dungeon for Horde characters and the shortest in the game. Troglodytes have dug up from below Orgrimmar, and the Burning Blade cult is hiding in the deeper caves. Thrall, Neeru Fireblade and Rahauro in Thunder Bluff all want something done about it.

It is a good first dungeon because almost nothing in it punishes mistakes. The packs are small, the bosses have one trick each, and the walk back from a wipe is short. It is also the best place for a new tank to learn to pull casters around a corner, because the trogg shamans and the cultists all stand still and cast.

In WoW Forever its Dungeon Finder row starts at level 13, and the beta also opened Hall of Thanes and Ruins of Lordaeron in the same bracket. Because Forever moved dungeon XP from the mobs to the quests, a Ragefire run with all five quests is worth far more than a run without them. Our beta cache already has all five.

Clear order

  1. Clear the first caves of troggs and kill Oggleflint, the trogg chieftain, near the start.
  2. Follow the lava river to Taragaman the Hungerer. His heart is for Neeru Fireblade's quest.
  3. Go up into the cultists' area. Jergosh the Invoker stands in one chamber and Bazzalan in another; both are needed for Hidden Enemies.
  4. Search the corpse of Maur Grimtotem along the way for the satchel quest.

Group and preparation

  • How to pull a caster pack, which is most of this dungeon: the tank shoots or throws at one mob, then steps back around the nearest rock so the casters lose sight and have to walk over. Everyone waits out of sight next to the tank. When the pack arrives, they are bunched up in melee and cast far less. Practise it here; every later dungeon uses it.
  • Any tank works. Warriors at this level have only a few threat tools; pull one pack at a time and let the tank hit first.
  • Shamans in the group should drop Searing Totem and Stoneskin. A warlock's Fear on a loose caster buys time.
  • Bring cloth bandages (first aid) and some water. It is a short run, so you will not need much.
  • Watch for patrols in the lava caves; they walk into fights from behind.
  • New for the Horde in Forever: Undead Paladins. In Classic Era, a paladin's Purify removes Bazzalan's poison; Cleanse, which also strips magic like Immolate, comes at level 42. A paladin also makes a sturdy early tank with Devotion Aura and Righteous Fury, which Classic Horde groups never had.
  • Orc Mages and Troll Warlocks are also new pairs. More mages in Horde groups means more Polymorph, which is worth using on the trogg shamans and the cultist casters.

What changed in WoW Forever

  • The beta client gives the Ragefire Chasm Dungeon Finder row a minimum level of 13; the Classic Era client (1.15.9.70003) leaves that row without a level. [BETA-OBSERVED]
  • All five Ragefire quests in our beta cache can be picked up from level 9, well below the dungeon's level 13 Dungeon Finder row, so a level 13 group can arrive with every quest. [BETA-OBSERVED]

Forever rules that apply to every dungeon

  • Dungeon mob XP was cut and dungeon quest XP raised; the October 1 notes then cut the extra dungeon quest XP by 50%. Do the quests. [REPORTED][OFFICIAL]
  • Dungeon boss unique drops are now blue, and BoP green and blue appearances go to every eligible looter. [OFFICIAL]
  • Blizzard says ordinary mobs take about 10 to 15 seconds to kill and crowd control still matters in dungeons. [OFFICIAL]

Quests

Seen in the beta

These quests are in our WoW Forever beta quest cache and sort under this dungeon in the quest log. Levels, XP and reward counts are the client's own. Base XP comes from the client's quest XP table; the extra dungeon-quest XP Forever adds is granted by the server and is not in the client, so the real reward is higher. [BETA-OBSERVED]

Classic Era quests for this dungeon

Classic Era quests for this dungeon that are not in our beta cache yet. Forever has over 1,000 new quests and has changed dungeon quest XP, so treat this as the Classic baseline until each one shows up in the beta cache. [CLASSIC ERA]

QuestStartSideWhat you do
Returning the Lost SatchelMaur Grimtotem's corpse, insideHordeTake the satchel back to Rahauro in Thunder Bluff. Not in our beta cache yet.

All five Ragefire quests in our beta cache are level 15 or 16 quests that can be taken from level 9. A Horde character can collect them on the way through Orgrimmar, Thunder Bluff and the Undercity long before the group is ready, and they keep. The Power to Destroy... is the only one with an item choice in the cache: three rewards.

Hidden Enemies is the end of a chain from Thrall that starts outside the dungeon; pick the chain up in Orgrimmar before your run. The Undercity and Thunder Bluff quests need a trip on the zeppelin, so most players grab them on their way through the capitals.

Notable trash

Classic Era mechanics; Forever beta unconfirmed. [CLASSIC ERA]

MobWhat it does and how to handle it
Ragefire TroggMelee troggs in pairs and threes. Needed for Testing an Enemy's Strength.
Ragefire ShamanHeals other troggs and casts lightning. Interrupt the heal or kill it first. Also needed for Rahauro's quest.
EarthborerWorms that come out of the ground. Weak, but they add to pulls in the side tunnels.
Molten ElementalFire elementals in the lava caves. Mostly melee; just tank them away from the group.
Searing Blade CultistCaster with a curse. Pull it around a corner so it walks to the tank.
Searing Blade Warlock and EnforcerThe warlocks summon a voidwalker; kill the warlock first and the pet goes with it. Enforcers are heavy melee.

Oggleflint: strategy

Encounter 1 of 4 in the beta client. Classic Era mechanics; Forever beta unconfirmed. [CLASSIC ERA]

The trogg chieftain near the start, with two troggs beside him. A plain melee fight.

Tactics

Clear the troggs around him, then pull him with his two helpers. Kill the helpers first, then Oggleflint. Nothing to interrupt and nothing to move out of. This is where a new group learns who is pulling.

  • Tank: Hold all three; turn them away from the group.
  • Healer: Easy fight; use it to check your mana per heal.
  • DPS: Behind him only.

Taragaman the Hungerer: strategy

Encounter 2 of 4 in the beta client. Classic Era mechanics; Forever beta unconfirmed. [CLASSIC ERA]

A big demon in the lava caves. The hardest hitter in the dungeon.

Abilities

AbilityWhat it doesAnswer
Fire NovaFire damage to everyone near him, repeated through the fight.Ranged and healer stand back; melee accept the damage and keep bandages ready.
UppercutKnocks his target back.Tank with your back to a wall so you do not fly into a pack.

Tactics

Clear the elementals and cultists around his area so the knockback cannot send the tank into another pull. Put the tank against a wall, keep casters at range, and heal through the Fire Novas. His heart drops for everyone on Slaying the Beast.

  • Tank: Back to the wall; taunt or re-engage right after each Uppercut.
  • Healer: Stand out of nova range; the tank is your main target but melee take splash too.
  • DPS: Melee: if your health is low after two novas, step back and bandage.

Jergosh the Invoker: strategy

Encounter 3 of 4 in the beta client. Classic Era mechanics; Forever beta unconfirmed. [CLASSIC ERA]

A Burning Blade warlock in the cult's chamber, with two cultists beside him. One of the two kills for Hidden Enemies.

Abilities

AbilityWhat it doesAnswer
ImmolateA fire damage over time spell on a player.Interrupt the cast; a priest dispels it if it lands.
Curse of WeaknessLowers melee attack power on the target.A mage or druid removes it. It mostly hurts the tank's threat.

Tactics

Kill the cultists in his room first. He is a caster, so pull him around a corner so he has to come to the tank. Then it is a short fight. He casts less in melee range.

If nobody can remove Immolate or the curse, keep the fight short instead: everyone attacks at once after the tank's first two or three hits. He has little health for a boss, and the debuffs only matter in a long fight.

  • Tank: Line-of-sight pull, then face him away from the group.
  • Healer: Watch for Immolate on whoever he targets with spells; it ticks for a while.
  • DPS: Casters can open freely once he is in melee with the tank.

Bazzalan: strategy

Encounter 4 of 4 in the beta client. Classic Era mechanics; Forever beta unconfirmed. [CLASSIC ERA]

A satyr leader of the cult, with two helpers. The other kill for Hidden Enemies.

Abilities

AbilityWhat it doesAnswer
Deadly PoisonA nature damage over time on his target.Cure it; shamans and paladins can. Otherwise heal through.

Tactics

He comes with cultists nearby. Pull them first or crowd control one. Bazzalan himself is a tank and spank fight with a poison. He is the last boss for most groups.

Once he dies, finish whatever trogg and cultist kills the quests still need before you leave. The respawn is slow, and coming back for eight more troggs is the most common waste of time in this dungeon.

  • Tank: Pick up the cultists first if they come with him, then hold Bazzalan.
  • Healer: The poison is steady damage, not burst. Use efficient heals.
  • DPS: Kill the adds, then the boss. Rogues and warriors can stand behind him freely.

Compared with Classic Era

  • Ragefire Chasm Dungeon Finder level: 0 in Era, 13 in Forever.

Abilities and tactics describe how these fights work in Classic Era; the WoW Forever beta can change any of them, and Blizzard has said boss loot and stats were reworked. Nothing here is a drop rate or a timing we measured. Loot rows come from the Adventure Guide match further down the page; the beta client cannot say how often anything drops.
