First race I struggled with because I was not using Skyward Ascent on any others

Try 4 surges into a skyward ascent at the start, including one at the end.

I had literally like 20 attempts on this one at 71-73 seconds and could not figure out for the life of me what I was doing wrong. I tried the Skyward Ascent strat, I tried conserving vigor, I tried copying videos, but nothing worked.

What finally did work was giving up strategy altogether and just blowing all vigor on speed whenever I had it. Just spam speed boost from the start as long the vigor lasts. There is a section in the center where you run out of juice and feel like you're going to fail, but just power through and pop speed when the vigor is ready and you should end around 67s for an easy gold!

In my opinion, go full speed on surges in the beginning, all 4, then make sure after the left hand turn that you hit a couple soars as appropriate - can finish with LOTS of time left over - you'll likely improve your time by over 10 seconds or so from your first run - don't panic!
