You can set your [spell=374990] on an outcrop by the waterfall at [/way 20.12, 23.58] which is directly in front of the first ring.
I still found the timer on this one extremely tight, but this timelock helps take ~1-2 secs off the time.

EDIT: To clarify, you must use [spell=374990] to set your position before the race. You can then use [spell=375585] during the countdown before the race starts.

It most certainly does, I just did it.

Very helpful advice, it's rare that I don't find it myself if there's a timelock trick, did it first try after reading this with 2 tenths margin, while I had never got closer to 1 second off the timer without; I'm not good with skyward ascent trick, can only manage it occasionally, so I mostly use surge.
