Struggled on my beloved Windborne Velocidrake. Switched to the Algarian Stormrider. Blew my vigor as fast as I got them when the race started. Halfway through, the Lightning Rush ability will be ready to use. Save this for when you start to fly over the wide-open lake. You'll know you're getting closer when the "Meandering Rootlands" flashes on your screen and you're flyiing alongside a cliff to make a hard right to the lake. (After 23 rings, to be precise) The Lightning Rush will give you a big boost in speed and help you rebuild your vigor quickly for the final uphill portion of the race. Good luck.

Using Whirling Surge at the very beginning did help me
This is even worse then Ysera Invitational Advanced: Gold.
Right at the start, after the left turn is a descent to a tower. This descent feels like the speed is capped. Speedometer weakaura NEVER gooes above 900 there.
