It's not even just that, the min-max damage on that thing is pretty ridiculous for a sword. Any Rogue dual-wielding that is sure to own, or not even dual-wielding it, just having one would be sick. :D

You're right that it's an awkward speed for a SS or Hemo Rogue, being suitable for neither MH nor OH. However it makes a perfectly good main hand for a Shivver.

Sure for a Survival Hunter, duel wielding these would be great. Only thing is... look at the amount of mats it requires for 2 of them. add the cost of putting 2 +20 agil to that. Now look what it would cost to run Slabs and get http://www.wowhead.com/?item=27903, slap 35 agil on it and call it a day. For that extra 20 agility this is the long and hard way to get it.

I'm a Fury warrior, and this is just great for me. As a main hand it's not too slow, it's got a nice addition to my crit chance (26 agil) and nice stam. i slapped the +20 str enchant on it, and it became a HUGE upgrade from my 60.1 DPS sword.

You can argue weapon speed semantics all day on the warrior forums. The fact of the matter is that that are advantages and disadvantages to both fast and slow weapons in either hand. Some people prefer fast, some like slow, so saying that it's worthless for fury is pure speculative opinion, and trashing other people for using it isn't cool either.

i spent a a 6 weeks testing. 2speed MH with fast offhand. 2.2speed MH and 2.6Speed MH The over all damage form the slow mainhand was signifigantly higher because Whirlwind and imp slam are based from weapon damage + X. Fast Mh was only good pre +20% rage boost to generate enugh rage to use skills. Now its justa decrease in dps.

Although, arguably with the recent change to the mechanics of Whirlwind, slower weapons are considered best now, so it's speed is weak.

Not tryin to affend you Tiga cause obviously you feel pretty strongly about what you said..I just find it funny that all these people rag on this sword as an offhand when not one of them has actually tried it.. And I am raiding with combat Potency with another rogue who has Latro's in his offhand and that's why I keep arguing this. Cause you can do all the speculating you want but until you try it you won't know for sure. Try it man and then tell me what you just said. (1000gold isn't that much nowadays.. : )

"Just try it" is not an argument. People telling you something, based on game mechanics and calculations and you just say "I put both in my offhand on seperate raid nights and felsteel blew latro's out of the water". Hello? If you want to prove Felsteel is better offhand than Latro (which you can't, because its like proving than black is white) do a little research: fight static mob for 1h with both weapons. Calculate how many extra energy you getting from Combat Potency procs under SnD with both weapons for this period, how many extra Sinisters you got from this energy, compare dmg from this

Look man, I'm not gonna do all your math problems when I've already read the dps meter (updated for TBC) and found out which weapon is better. And btw it wasn't just one raid night that I tried it was numerous instances, raids and solo sessions. But lets just agree to disagree, I got my mind made up, and your obviously just gonna be insulting because your so sure of yourself that felsteel sux, so lets just leave it at that k? Insulting or not, Tiga is right. Raiest, you don't seem to understand that you might as well be trying to prove that 2+2=1 Game mechanics are math, and you can't argue with them. Latro's is a better offhand then this sword in every way, and you out-DPSing a rogue who is offhanding Latro's could be based on a number or factors unrelated to your offhand weapon. Simple math proves that that the outcome between two completely equal rogues who compete wielding equal gear, one wielding Latro's, one wielding Felsteel, the rogue wielding Latro's will do more DPS. Exactly the reason why I'm gonna stop arguing it. I've tried to prove my point and to tell you the truth, the only people's opinions that I care about are my raiding buddies. So thanks for the input but I gotta agree to disagree.

I had one of these crafted the other day. The materials are:

10 Khorium bars (~13g each) 8 Primal Mights (~90g each or free if you're an Alchemist) 2 Primal Nether (~200g each) + tip

The roadblock to crafting this weapon (and all other Blacksmithing weapons) are the Primal Nethers, since they (a) are Bind on Pickup (b) only drop in Heroic instances and (c) are used by the Blacksmith to craft is own BoP weapons.

Now for a few notes. Quite clearly there are much better offhands and mainhands - craftable ones too, check out the Dirge (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=23555) and Runic Hammer (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=23544). In regard to Combat Potency, I myself have Latro's and use it for long fights where the energy regeneration is vital. However, for casual farming (where encounters last 15 seconds) there is no noticable difference save for bigger white offhand numbers. Also, forget about Shiv, since it now costs 42 energy.

So, why get it? If you have terrible luck in instances (by the time I had transmuted all my primals, Reflex Blades still hadn't dropped), it can be a make-do mainhand. What about the Vindicator's Brand? Collecting the token turn-ins for Aldor rep will require phenomenally more farming time than the materials for the Longblade. If you choose to buy tokens, the cost will be at least twice that of this weapon. Above all, the Vindicator's Brand is one of the ugliest swords in the game (Latro's is pretty hideous too), which brings me to my main motivation for purchasing this:

Once you have it, you will be the coolest Troll on the beach, since the Longblade is one of the select 1-handed weapons which sheathe on your back. Everyone will ask where you got it and how they can get one too. Plus you will save a fortune on Savoury Deviate Delights by instantly transforming into a ninja with your trusty Longblade and Stealther's Helm of Second Sight.

Post patch, the materials have changed but the crafting cost is about the same. Always remember that the game has a social aspect. Although it does not make big numbers appear on your screen, looking good is sometimes just as gratifying. If you want to look snazzy and can't use 2-handers, get this sword. (And if you want to gain energy from Combat Potency, swap in a Searing Sunblade when no one's looking)

I just want to say one more thing, regarding Latro's vs felsteel. Tiga and Bipfrommannoroth, I agree with you both that Latro's is a better offhand than felsteel IF you use combat potency as your spec, say 20/41/0 or something. But that isn't my spec. I'm 28/33/0 because that way you have adrenaline rush, blade fury, cold blood, and seal fate. An instant crit every 2 minutes and 5 combo points allll the time is way better imo than an occasional 25 energy. So since my offhand is not based off of speed for my spec then I want it to hit as hard as possible. I tried combat potency and even with Latro's it was ok but not near as good as having seal fate and cold blood. Ok, asking you to buy felsteel just to try it was unreasonable but asking you to respec for 10 gold isn't. Try it out, having four great cooldowns instead of just two is awesome and perfect for raiding. Come on, instant 3000 evicerate every two minutes and then another one right after that cause of seal fate. *clutch*

+10%dmg to your primary attack skill, not dodgeable finishers, and CONSTANT energy gains from Combat Potency with fast offhand > Cold Blood and Seal Fate. In raids 60%-80% of your finishers should be SnD, rest is rupture/evis ... install recap or swstats: ~50%-60% of your dmg should be from white attacks(whats why SnD is so important), almost all rest from SS, and may be only 5%-9% from rupture/evis. Cold Blood is close to useless for raids, Seal Fate is good, but not worth it anyway. Im 99% sure you not using SnD a lot in raids, whats why you don't realise why fast off-hand + combat potency i

hi, haven't done any of the math on this thing. But I did just group with a rogue duel-welding these who was combat specced and a priest. I am also combat specced and am using vindicator's brand/latro's shifting sword. We were both closely geared and I ran cosmos's dmg meter he came up with roughly 33% of the dmg and I did roughly 52%. Either he wasn't any good at his class or felsteel just doesn't cut it for rogues.......

Im a fury spec warrior and Ive just crafted this. I would only add that from a warrior perspective this is a nice sword purely because of the high damage range which when combined with rage dump abilities like execute means u deliver really really big hits (5500 crits) and thats special for a 1H weapon. Yes you can get better but the final factor is lets be honest to of em sheathed is going to look the dogs !! and stick a nice shiney enchant on em - even better ...

Ummm... You DO realize that this weapon has NO impact on your execute damage, right? Execute has no connection whatsoever with weapon damage. Like Bloodthirst, it is completely independent of weapon damage values. But surely as a lvl 70 Fury Warrior, you must have known this... ;)

The materials required to produce this sword have been reduced, it now only takes 10 Felsteel bars, 8 Primal Might and 2 Primal Nether. Blizzard must have thought the original amount of materials, 10 Khorium Bars, 10 Felsteel bars, 6 Primal Might and 8 Primal Nether was a little harsh for a weapon of such calibre.

Actually Loretail the mats listed are for the next patch they are increasing them to make it more difficult to get. Wow Head simply updated there data base early

Yeah i just remembered that they are upping the mats required. Shame... i managed to obtain the plans today funnily enough, I'm definitely crafting one for myself before Wednesday in case they patch then. Well i don't know how sell-able they will be but you could charge a bomb for the 8 Nethers around 300+ gold considering you can buy nethers with badges in the next patch too.

Yes, this sword does get the animations and color effects from enchants such as Mongoose or +15 Agility.

Being the Shaman who farmed for 2 x Fel Edged Battleaxes for looks (for the most part anyway), I'm tempted to get these x 2 for my Rogue alt. But the damage penalty will probably hurt a lot more than on my Shaman.

The mats for the swords has been drastically reduced, which makes them a fair bid for anyone, including a hunter. I have 1 made already, and in the process of farming the mats for the other. It's not that bad at all, if your guild has a couple miners you can get the bars in no time, I got all my felsteel and khorium within 3 days. The farming part is a piece of cake, take an hour, pop in a cd and you have the mats for the might. Find a transmute specced alchy and you could have your mats even sooner! Only thing is that you can be charged in upwards of 450g for the nether, which isn't too bad considering that if you're going to dual wield, you'll probably never replace these until you get into extremely high end stuff. Not to mention they look sick sheathed :D

If you're going for stats, which you should be generally, Terokk's Quill (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=29329) is better for a Hunter than dual wielding Felsteel Longblades by 2 agility and 3 stamina. And surely, it's more easily attainable since all it takes is one successful Sethekk Halls run.

HUNTERS If you duel wield these with +15 Agility Enchant Terokk's Quill is still better, though one of these at each side would look pretty sweet. =) Two Longblades with 2x +15 agility enchants: 82 Agility, 30 Stam = 82 RAP 2.05% Crit Quill with 30 agility enchant: 84 Agility, 33 Stam = 84 RAP, 2.1% Crit (Based on Crit conversion of Agility X .025) --UPDATED-- In patch 2.2 PTR there's a new +20 agility weapon enchant, therefore, new stats while duel wielding these +this enchant = 92 RAP, 2.3% Crit

But next patch, they're adding 20 agility enchants to one-handers, making this superior.

i've made 2 of these, and trying to decide whether to use them, or sell them. . if i use them i will be a DW fury dps warrior in kara and gruuls. . advice please ^^

I would sell them, use the money for consumables. Crafted weapons were mainly implemented so people who couldn't make time to raid wouldn't be left in the dust with sub-par gear like they were pre-BC. If you are able to raid, you should get gear from raiding, as there are many weapons superior to this (especially for a fury warrior) that are dropped from raid bosses.

Speaking completely from a rogue perspective, it would be a decent main hand weapon, but not the greatest as many people have pointed out because of its somewhat fast speed. And if you're looking for a great off-hand weapon, why not get a Dirge crafted instead? The two weapons cost the exact same amount in materials and I'm sure there's going to be someone who can craft it on your server. Ok man, I do understand what you're saying but let's put this from a Combat Sword Spec Rogue's Point of View. First off, a Combat Sword Rogue wouldn't want a dagger because it'd be virtually useless to them since their points would be all focused in the extra swing that a sword gives but I do see what you're saying. For sword spec'd rogues (with 5/5 in Sword Specialization) don't you have to have a sword equipped in the offhand to proc combat potency?

Combat Potency: "Gives your successful off-hand melee attacks a 20% chance to generate X Energy." Any offhand melee attack will do it. If I may conjecture about your question; the reason you see so many people with a Gladiator's Quickblade (as opposed to a Gladiator's Shiv) is that their mainhand is a sword and their gear gives them sword Weapon Skill rating. The only way to take advantage of this rating (on their second weapon) is to equip a sword in their offhand.

most rogues use sword in offhand when they are sword specs is because if both hand is using swords there is a higher chance to proc the sword spec which will give 1 extra attack, or alternatively some rogues also prefer a dagger in offhand for the combat potency procs

I gathered the mats for this and was going to get it crafted, but i was thinking...Would it be better to use it in the offhand with, lets say a Spiteblade in the main hand. Or use this in the main hand with Merciless Gladiator Quickblade in the off hand. If it matters, either way both weapons would be Mongoosed.

I have waded through the absolute muck of posts of several websites that let users post and one thing is for certain: most people agree that the Felsteel Longblade is not the best weapon for Rogue, that it is just ok for Hunters and a good weapon for Warriors depending on spec. I would like to discuss this weapon from a Combat Sword Rogue POV but offer something completely different: * The Many Reasons Why You Would* get these blades. * The Many Reasons Why You Would* 1.) PVP Battlegrounds is not for you. (Grand Marshall’s) 2.) PVP Arena is not for you. (Gladiator’s Slicer) 3.) You chose Scryers instead of Aldor. (Vindicator’s Brand) 4.) You do not want to farm Aldor rep for months. (Vindicator’s Brand) 5.) You are not a Blacksmith with a specialization in Swordsmithing. (Fireguard) 6.) You have not been extremely lucky with random world drops. (Blindstrike) 7.) Your server has a wildly over-priced Auction House. (Any Bind on Equip) 8.) You were not lucky enough to get Latro’s Shifting Sword on your pass, or several passes, through Black Morass. (Instance runs into BM are generally very rare on most servers.) 9.) You are not in a Raiding Guild and/or have not earned Kharazan or Serpentshrine Cavern yet. (Spiteblade) * The Many Important Reasons Why You Would* 1.) Good looks. As many have discussed before me, the Felsteel Longblade is arguably the best looking sword of its type both wielded and sheathed. Many people find the looks of their character to be an important factor when choosing gear. 2.) It is actually a highly ranked weapon for Rogues on many weapon comparison charts, despite the questionable mathematics or flawed damage meters that some people swear by. Level: 105 / 83.4 DPS / +26 AGI / +15 STA / Speed: 2.20. It is obvious that the sword is too fast for main hand and too slow for off hand though most people would agree that the raw DPS is, at least, on par or better than most of the rare swords in its class. 3.) The most important reason by far is: control. You are completely in control of the acquisition. A player will be able to farm the MATs for this sword very easily and/or purchase them from the Auction House. There are, usually, at least a few people happy to use their Nethers for a fee. * Recommendations * 1.) Enchantments. I strongly recommend the Mongoose enchant for this, and all other, swords for Combat Rogue. 2.) Use these swords for regular PVE and instances while working on getting one of the ultimate sets like: Blindstrike + Latro’s Shifting Sword.
