by saying this you imply that a player has this schematic placed in their inventory, this is incorrect, you are simply tought the recipe as if you talk to a profession trainer, the linked schematic is a very low drop from thermaplugg, the last boss. note the schematic you linked not having any binding properties (not bop or boe even) which means it can be sold through AH, ask yourself how many times you have seen this in the AH, with gnomeregan being run sporadically still it should be on there at least once a day every day of the week, thats not the case. you have never seen it on AH becaus

I did this at level 36 on my rogue stealthing through most of it -- the stealth helped a lot due to the clumpy mobs. I followed the back door strat and it worked perfectly. I had to beat up a few mobs to get access and wait for pats to clean out for awhile, but eventually I got it. Very easy using the back door -- saved a lot of time. Stay on the ground floor and the side passages have the access panel at the entry.

on using the Security Delta card for your recipe for the Discombobulator Ray, ...the recipe is learnt automatically to your engineering recipe inventory, IT IS NOT A RECIPE RECEIVED IN YOUR BAGS!! check your recipes you will see it there

This item permits engineers with the otherwise required skills to learn the Discombobulator Ray recipe from the Matrix Punchograph 3005-B, as well as learning the recipe for the Minor Recombobulator from the Matrix Punchograph 3005-D. Note, however, that having the associated punchcards is still a necessity to access the punchographs.

Note: To use terminal B to get the schematic you must also have the YELLOW punchcard in your inventory when you click on the terminal. I was doing the data rescue quest and upgraded my card first...so I ended up back-tracking and getting the white card again to get the yellow card to finally get the schematic.

I know this post is really old, but I used the information here as a reference anyway when attempting to get both the Discombobulator Ray and the Minor Recombobulator, and I ran into problems as a result. So that no one else has the same problems, please note that the Punchographs listed above are backwards. You learn the Discombobulator Ray from the D machine, NOT B. Only place you can get it from, using this card. You have to buy the Minor Recombobulator plans from one of the vendors because the B machine is no longer accessible with the removal of the yellow punchcard from the game.

If you happen to still have a Yellow Punch Card, it might be worth seeing if you can use it with a Security DELTA Data Access Card at the Matrix Punchograph 3005-B (just below the grimy object washer room) to get the second recipe. I've done this after the Punch Card quest was removed, but it was years and a couple of releases ago. If you happen to have a White Punch Card, you can no longer upgrade it to a Yellow Punch Card; the Matrix Punchograph 3005-A machines are gone.

When you punch in the card, it will say Data access granted, and have a nice day, followed by some binary. i Took the Binary to an English to Binary website, and it translates too Natalie PontmRocks Im guessing that Natalie is someone on the blizzard squad who knew people like me would translate it.

Vojnik+1via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

Are you sure you didn't decode the other Matrix Punchograph? When I decoded this one it came out to "short and sweet" edit: Second binary code reads "go go go!" (yes, two exclamation marks). Edit 2: It is the third code in the Punchograph, which does read "Natalie Portman Rocks"

Do you need a quest to pick this up? Or is it just to farm?

Edit: You do not need the quest to pick this item up. Got mine a second ago from a Mechano-Flamewalker. Sadly it's only in my bag :S. I can't find the recepie in my engineering skill and it does not say i learned anything. I can't click it and I am 100% sure I got this exact card and not the recepie. Help please!

Edit: Found it. I just needed to go to "Matrix Punchograph 3005-D" which can be found in the lower Engineering Labs once I got the card. Yet for some reason the card was still in my bag :S. Sent it to a friend who I know needs the recepie as well :D

As far as I know this item is a bit unique in the game. It is essentially a key that "unlocks" access to engineering plans, but the key is not destroyed in the process. This means you can pass this item to a friend or sell it in the auction house for other engineers to use in the same way. This is good for recipe collectors. I know of no other items that are like this.

The drop rate is low (under 5%), but not unreasonable; and drops from many mobs in the same area. It's quite likely you will see one or more of these drop in a run.

Ozrek+11via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

To get the [spell=3959], use this item on the Matrix Punchograph D, which is located on the ground floor in the ENGINEERING LABS of Gnomeregan. It is on the floor below the Crowd Pummeler 9-60. It will be automatically learned through your engineering.

1304315+24via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

You must have a Security DELTA Data Access Card in your bags to to use the Matrix Punchograph D to learn the Discombubulator Ray schematic. The drop rate on the Security DELTA Data Access Card is low enough to warrant buying one on the auction house to ensure access to the schematic. You can usually find one for around one gold if you plan ahead.

Pug groups generally avoid the lab wing where the [object=142696] is located. You may have to coax you group, get friends to help you, or solo later.

As mentioned elsewhere, the Matrix Punchograph D teaches you the schematic, you do not get a schematic in your inventory. However, the [item=4413] item is also available as a rare drop (~ 0.5%) from the final boss, [npc=7800]. The schematic item can be sold for quite a bit; so it is worth learning the schematic from the Matrix Punchograph D, even if you get the schematic item.

If you are in the instance farming engineering schematics, be sure to also get [item=11828] and [item=11827]. Mekengineer Thermaplugg is worth killing even if you already have the bombling schematic, as he drops several engineering schematics, albeit at a low drop rate.

FYI for old timers, the punch cards are no longer required nor generally available. The White Punch Cards no longer drop, the mobs that dropped them have been replaced, and the Matrix Punchograph A machines are gone. The Matrix Punchograph D will teach Discombubulator Ray schematic without a punchcard. The Matrix Punchograph B no longer teaches the Minor Recombobulator schematic. The [item=14639] is now available to both factions.

Added June 4, 2016:

The card is not consumed on use. You can share it, sell it when you're done, or whatever. A guild can keep a loaner copy, as long as everyone understands to return it when they're done with it and not just toss it.

The use of the punch card on the Matrix Punchograph D to learn the Discombubulator Ray schematic has an Engineering skill requirement around 150 or 160. The card is not consumed, you can safely try it and return later if it fails.

Confirm this still drops. Seven runs through the day, last run this dropped twice, once from Mechano-Frost Walker, then from Peacekeeper Security Suit. Confirm this still only works on the last set of access panels, the "D" panel, and the schematic "Discombobulator Ray" automatically goes into your engineering book. Also confirm, as a Horde, the Goblin transporter at Grom'gol Base in Northern Strangelthorn still works, drops you off at another transporter directly inside the entrance of Gnomeregan. Any entrance walking back out takes you right back to Grom'gol. BE Hunter, 48, Khadgar/Alleria servers. Patch 6.2.3, January 18, 2016.
