I picked this quest up today. Getting the 30 fish wasn't difficult, just annoying as the drop rate is about 50%. Got all 30, flew up to get the big guy, flew back to Domination Point and turned him in.
The quest giver warns you that he is difficult and you should bring a group. Who has time to make their own groups nowadays? I'm a hunter, I'll solo him I thought.
Turned out he has 12.6 million HP, and he hits me for anywhere between 86k and 120k after 2 shotting my pet. Luckily though, he's slower than molasses which makes him very kitable, and he's susceptible to CC. Both my Wyvern Sting and Narrow Escape landed with no problem and stuck for the full NPC duration. I basically straffed around the entire ring that you fight him in which kept him circling in the center.
According to recount I did 12,670,220 damage. At 39474.8 DPS that's 320.96 (or 321) seconds. Roughly a 5 1/2 minute fight. Not too challenging just keep moving. Don't get caught by the sticks coming out from the barriers. Dont' be afraid to use CC if you have to get around him. I doubt this is soloable by non-ranged classes.
Enjoy!

must be a glich at the moment... i for the 30 fish, turned in the quest, then got the caged crab, turned in that quest, then i am told to form a group and come back when ready (which i did) but was unable to start the fight or do anything. speaking to the huntsman has no options, nothing in quest log, no clickable items to start the fight. idk, lemme know if anyone has any ideas.
Here's what I gather:
1. When you come in to do your O:SW dailies, first check the cages at /way 84 18. If you see people killing an animal, join in. You'll get credit, 200 rep, and a 30-minute buff, and then you can go on to do your dailies.
2. If you see animal(s) in the crates that people are not fighting, then advertise in the zone for people to come help you and/or solo it. Anyone who taps, even if not in group, will get credit.
3. If you don't see animals, then consider buying the crab trap and doing that one. As of 11/29/12, it sounds like the one with the best drop rates. Turn it in and go to step (2).
Note that you can apparently only get credit for a single elite beast per day.
At a glance
Beastmaster's Quarry: The Crab is a Horde-only quest for level 15-35. It rewards 600 experience and money.
