If you are getting in the Darkmoon card business and don't want to or can't gather herbs, take this into consideration when buying herbs off the auction house for milling:
A stack of Pandaria herbs will allow you to mill four times, yielding an average of:
2.5x4 = 10 Shadow Pigment, which translates into 5 Ink of Dreams
If it is a stack of anything but Fool's Cap, you roughly have a 25% chance of getting a Misty Pigment for each milling, yielding an average of 1 Misty Pigment per stack.
Since Starlight Ink can be traded for 10 Ink of Dreams, 2 stacks of non-Fool's Cap pandaria herbs will give you an average of 2 Starlight Ink (one created with the 2 pigments and one traded for 10 Ink of Dreams)If you are milling Fool's Cap, you will get an average of 1.5 Starlight Ink per stack instead (because of the 50% chance of getting a Misty Pigment, you will get an average of two of those per stack of Fool's Cap.)
In short, provided you stashed your [item=79731] and have enough of them, you will need 10 stacks of Pandaria herbs per Darkmoon card or 7 stacks of Fool's Cap.
If you are buying off the AH, buy Starlight Ink if it is cheaper than one stack of Pandaria herbs, and if it is not, buy the herbs instead.
Only buy Fool's Cap if they do not cost more than 150% of the price of the other herbs.
Random is random people. Don't post complaining about bad luck or claiming that it's not random. It is.
