Flares are very useful for teaching people the Heigan and Sartharion fights to show the "dance" zones and lava wall gaps. For Sartharion using green and white is best because red blends in too much. Use one color to mark where the gaps will be when the walls come from the north, and then the other for when the walls come from the south. On Heigan, put the flare down in the middle of sections 2 and 3 so people will run to a target that is as far from the edge of 1&3 when 2 is safe or 2&4 when 3 is safe. For zones 1&4 you can decide if you want to use a different color to mark the edge of th zone, or just stay with one color and put it well into that section so they'll be out of range of 2 if in 1 and 3 if in 4.
