Engineering has never been for the "super-hardcore every-stat-counts" crowd. The whole idea, the reasoning behind Engineering is to give you an array of cool gadgets, gizmos, and assorted stuff that do pretty much anything under the sun. Need to fall 1000 feet and not die? No problem: here's a cloak that slows your fall speed. Need to get out of a tight spot? Got it covered: use this helmet that launches you into the sky. Yes, Engineers aren't going to have the most optimal enchants and stats, but that's not the point. Being an Engineer is about enjoying the journey; doing cool stuff th

Dear Hunters,
Disengage + Cliff + Flexweave Underlay = best escape EVER.
I'll gladly give away other enchants for this, awesome to be able to use this every minute, and still not having to use another cloak...
-"I believe I can flyyyyy...."
*Jumps off cliff*
- "Oh $!ยค# wrong cloak !"
*Splat*
Tooltip
Permanently attaches a flexweave underlay to a cloak, allowing you to turn the cloak into a parachute and fall slowly for 30 sec.
The cloak can only be used once a minute and requires a Northrend Engineering skill of at least 1.

Getting jumped while I was level 71 leveling in Fjord by an 80 rogue.
Can you imagine the look on his face when he sees me use my nitro boosts on my boots to soar off the side of a massive cliff and slowly parachute away?
Priceless.
Disengage + Cliff + Flexweave Underlay = best escape EVER.depends on cliff...try not to use a edge in outland :))
As a lvl 70 Hunter who still wears his parachute cloak, I will not hesitate to get this.
Keep your stats, Engineers have the all the toys. I'll save you time when the group wipes with my Feign Death -> Cloaking Device -> Jumper Cables combo. Then I'll drop a bot so everyone can sell and repair. Course you might not need to sell yet if you're saving bag space with potion injectors.
Engineering: I may be poor, but I'm happy.
There's a couple of differences you should note between this and the old Parachute Cloak.
This has a 1 minute cooldown, Parachute cloak has a 30 second cooldown.
This creates a Parachute floating over you, Parachute cloak does not.
This cancels the moment you hit ground, Parachute cloak does not.
This cannot be used while on the ground, while Parachute cloak can.The differences are small, but a couple of them could be fatal if you forget which one you're using.
The tooltip doesn't indicate this, but it can't be used over the trade window.
"Can only be used on an item you own" displays.
There go my dreams of being a profitable engineer... /sigh
It doesn't matter if he follows and kills you anyway. What matters is that you've wasted his time and opened an escape route that wouldn't normally exist.
It's even better when you Nitro Boost, have a malfunction, and launch yourself 5000 feet in the air leaving him wondering what the hell happened.
And then he mounts up, follows you down and kills you as you land. Priceless.
I found out on my rogue that you can use stealth after deploying the parachute, quite useful is some situations haha
I pvp a lot and my favorite battleground is Arathi Basin. Couple of stories i think you guys will think are funny,
1)I was guarding LM and I saw that BS was getting hit hard. Since there was only a couple of people guarding it, i knew that if i bought a few more seconds it would be reinforced. So i jumped off lm, opened my Parachute cloak and just as i got to BS it was failing. Targeted the guy capping the flag and charged(warrior). And i was successful, i died in the process, but it was reinforced before the alliance could cap it and we won :).
2) Again i was guarding LM(always guard, there are enough running around trying to capture stables). Saw like 8 alliance running up because of my engineering goggles, knew i had no chance and that BS was fairly empty(1 hunter). So i targeted an enemy(shaman i think) popped nitro boost on my boots, popped parachute a little way in and to top it off i waved at the shaman(definatly the coolest thing ive ever done, wish i could have seen his face), charged the hunter, killed him and capped BS as they were capping LM. We lost that round, but it was because our side decided to zerg around everywhere instead of actually defending.
Seriously. I love engineering.
edit: forgot to add the number of times i just jump down to GM and charge instead of walking all the way around :)
Best moment ever!
Dueling a warrior buddy in Howling Fjord on my hunter, we were dancing about and I was mostly tossing pot shots as I was nearing the cliff edge of a maybe 2000 yrd drop.... I pop disengage and magically I see KILL SHOT on my screen... I pop my parachute and hit Kill shot... I land safely in the water after the parachute wears off... and my Kill shot killed my buddy.... needless to say I was like "I am Batman!" and listened to him QQ in vent lol and he was in epics while im in blues! lol
Agreed. I can't count how many times I've been in a jam and I've needed my parachute cloak, and as karma would have it, I was wearing my stat giving cloak. Put two and two together with the 30 sec. equip cooldown, I wasn't jumping off of an cliff soon. Of course, I now wear my Parachute Cloak at all times unless I'm doing a raid, but it'd be nice to save up some bagspace and install the Flexweave Underlay, since there aren't many "ZOMG AWESOME" cloak enchants anyway. This also beats by idea of having crafted parachute cloaks similar to the goggles (IE: 100 armor, 30 Intellect, 25 Stamina, +5
Crap, where are my Tears!
Stacks with other enchants as of 4.0.1
If you want to make a macro for this (to avoid having to add your cloak to your hotbars every time you switch gearsets), it's /use 15
welcome to the engineering profession as it was since like alpha.
^This^ Is what engineering is all about! The little moments that make us laugh, WTF?, cry, save the day etc. It may not be an op proffesion, but in some instances the sheer fun of those little moments make it all worth it!
It stacks with other enchants now!
They're "useless" for obsessive min/max'ers. For some they'll be a massive help in certain situations, particularly if you're an engineer putting this on your own gear, and you can't get hold of a good enchant for whichever items. Yes, having them in addition to enchantments on your gear would be wonderful. But that isn't the case at the moment, and may well not be the case come launch. Besides; which is more useful, having a parachute cape with minimal stats on, or having either your main cloak or a backup cloak (maybe your previous one?) with the parachute effect built into it, so you get
This apparently does not share a cd with Springy Arachnoweave. Since 3.2 they are 30 seconds of slow fall and the slow fall is not canceled upon swapping out capes, so you can make a macro to use 1 type of cape and equip the other one at the same time. So while you get the slow fall of the first cape, the second cape is going through its "on equip" cd of 30 seconds. When you lose the slow fall of the first cape you can use the second one and gain another 30 seconds. You can then repeat with a second macro to get the same effect again.
I recommend making a set of macros like this:
/use (Cape 1)
/equip (Cape 2)/use (Cape 2)
/equip (Cape 1)
(Remember these are just rough example macros so I'm open to improvements)This will give you near-infinite slow fall if used correctly. Cape 1 will be the cape with the Springy Arachnoweave and Cape 2 will be the cape with Flexweave Underlay.
Combine with Rocket Boots Xtreme for extra fun.
As of Cataclysm, this enchant now STACKS with regular enchantments. They have also removed the spell power(?) it used to give.
The other engineering cloak enchant that gave attack power(?) is removed.
The macro command is /use 15 for the cloak slot.
as has been said in other posts, the agility bonus IS there, it's just not showing on cloaks right now for some reason, one would assume it's just a little bug. to clarify for everyone here .... YES! THE AGILITY BONUS >>>> IS <<<< THERE, YOU JUST CANT SEE IT RIGHT NOW ! ALTERNATE BETWEEN HAVING YOUR CLOAK ON AND HAVING IT OFF AND WATCH YOUR AGILITY STAT AS YOU DO SO ! edit : obviously if the cloak you are using happens to have agility on it to begin with, compensate for that agility loss when you're inspecting your stats ;)
The enchant no longer gives +23 to Agility. I just enchanted my cloak and watched my agility as I did and it did not increase. Sigh...
Remember how Batman is always jumping out windows or over ledges, and by the time the person he's with rushes to the edge and looks over Batman's vanished? This is pretty much exactly like that.
I didn't see it mentioned in previous posts - perhaps I am the only person who didn't know - so I thought I would point out that this enchant has no item level requirement and thus CAN be used on heirloom cloaks. I was able to enchant an heirloom cloak with a level 80 character who had 488 Engineering skill.

As of 5.3 I can not use nitro boosts and then parachute off something right away. When trying to active my parachute cloak after using the boost it says "invalid target" and i have fallen to my death a few times already. Are they no longer usable together? I haven't been able to find any information about this problem. The patch has only been out for less than a day so I will be patient until then this sucks lol.
Having the same problem with the goblin glider.
That made my day lol, good job on figuring it out, you dirty bastard xD *hi5*
dont forget the Moneymaker (Z)
I can confirm that while under the effect of the parachute you can cast spells freely without breaking the buff, unless right-click cancel it.
Unfortunately this is true. Only can be used on the engineer's cloak. All the more reason to be an engineer! Everyone should have at least one engineering alt... they're just too much fun!
Flexweave 'chutes: Because we can't quite terraform yet.
This poster gets it. Eng is for people who play the game a little differently than most. Sure we make have slightly lower stats here and there but when we get to that huge cliff we can just jump. no need to find a way down. This has already saved me plenty of travel time in northrend. And the reax from people when you land out of nowhere is worth every penny.
Yep, the Mote Extractor is my Eng's main source of revenue. Makes farming tons and tons of primals a breeze...literally.
Did exactly that off one of the towers in AV the other day, leaving behind a very bewildered ret pally. Got to choose your battles.
Dunno why this got downrated, except that possibly it's the same for the parachute cloak? 's true, though, just verified it. Being able to stealth while 'chuting is just ridiculously neat, I think.
I saw no other posts about this so far, so I'd just like to have a little spill about a glitch with it. When you are falling from the sky and want to take an awesome screenshot, the buff is counting down: 30...29...28...and so on. However, when you press Alt + Z, the timer on the buff doesn't change. Do not let this fool you because it really is counting down, the buff just doesn't show it. (Alt + Z and wait a couple seconds and bring it back to see what I'm talking about)
Also something else that I haven't seen anyone post on here is that while you are falling straight down and use it, you can press whichever buttons you use to move in a direction and it will give you a slight angle on the fall. Not noticeable from short falls, but can be very noticeable when plummeting to the ground from a million miles up.
You can attach it, but it only works for chars with 350 engineering. Basically the same like all other enchants.
Just a minor inconvenience, this enchant can only be activated in the air, and when touching teh ground the effect fails.
Also i love how people are saying this is useless because it doesn't stack with other enchantments. What would be more useful in a pvp situation?+20 spirit, or being able to survive being knock backed, mind controlled or death grasped of the edge of a cliff?
Also pretty sure that if this stacked with other effects then everyone will roll engineer to 'min/max'
This Engineer-unique enchant is now "Best in Slot" for any class that values AGI over Haste.
It has 1 AGI more than an Enchanter's Enchant Cloak - Major Agility (+22 AGI).
Confirmed, this Tinker no longer grants +23 Agility. But as SaltyScurge has said it does stack with other cloak enchants. So, for example, I now have on my hunter this and the +22 Agility enchant. I'm assuming Blizzard did this so we can use a wider selection of enchants on our cloak while still keeping this really cool Tinker.
Parachute can be used very effective while carrying flag on battleground [zone=5031] but actually you can use engineering Goblin Glider instead of parachute to do it a little faster flying through the river.
This is the best and fastest way for flag carrier without any potion / scroll / buff, using only own sprint.
Watch video, do it three times and win bg ;3
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rX9H0X-TOKk
This is very usefull as you dont have to carry your trusty parachute araound with you if youve got a better cloak.
actually u can attack the guy while ure floating so that gives u a good advantage over melee dps
Allowing a skilled engineer to turn the cloak into a parachute to fall slowly for 10 sec. So no, probably not.
I'm confused. I used this on my cloak, but the tooltip only mentions the added slow-fall use. I doesn't say that it also added an additional 23 agi. Is it just inferred?
The comment on this enchant is "The cloak can only be used once a minute and requires an Engineering skill of at least 350".
Now, Engineering Skill 350 is achievable at Level 50, but anyone who thinks that this enchant will be available to him then will be disappointed.
The reason is that the enchant is BoP and can be learned only at Engineering Skill 380, which cannot be reached until Level 65.
It would be less misleading if the cloak enchant stated that it required Engineering Skill 380. Theoretically it could be used at 350, if say you dropped Engineering at level 80, then later on relearned it but leveled it up only to level 350. That's a pretty remote scenario.
This has been changed in conjunction with disengage. Before you were able to disengage after using the chute for an added boost in a chosen direction (opposite of what u face obviously). Now this will drop you, so be careful lest you plummet to your death. You may still disengage + chute, but not in the opposite order. I used to use this a lot, sad.
