Getting the Unlimited Goblin Glider cloak in Shadowlands

If you're in SL and want the reusable Goblin Glider cloak there's a quick and cheap way to do it. Ignore the levelling guide on wowprofessions as that assumes you want to max Pandaria Engineering to level 75 when you only need level 25 to get the cloak enchant.

You need maximum 48 * Ghost Iron Bar to level from 1-25. You might need a few less but if you don't have a long boi the AH is a pain to get to so buying 4/5 extra isn't a big deal.

Either buy the bars from the AH, or buy 96 * Ghost Iron Ore if you have mining (or can pick it up temporarily). 2 Ore will give you 1 bar so buy whichever is cheapest.

I bought 96 Ghost Iron Ore which cost 804g.

  • Take the portal from Org/Stormwind to Jade Forest

  • If you bought the ore Pick up Mining from the trainer in the village you spawn at

  • Fly to Stoneplow Village in VotFW

  • Go to the Engineering trainer at Nessingwary's Safari

  • Smelt all the ore here into bars if you bought it

  • Make 12 * High-Explosive Gunpowder

  • Make 12 * Ghost Iron Bolts

  • This got me to level 18. Since these two recipes go green at 13 you might be at a lower/higher level

  • Craft as many G91 Landsharks as you need to get to level 25. I needed 7.

  • Learn the recipe from the trainer and you're done

You can buy the tinker kits at Legion Dalaran at the vendor next to the Engineering trainer, no need to craft them using Pandaria Engineering (they're dirt cheap from the vendor).

You can use the macro

#showtooltip
/use 15

to use your cloak enchant so you can bind it to a button.

Goblin Glider is seriously one of my favourite things in MoP, hell, it's one of my favourite things in WoW. Currently my wow playing consists of trying to find high places to jump down from and look at the views and try to land as far as possible and I'm sure my non-engineer friends are tired of listening to "OMG LOOK AT THE MAP I JUST FLEW FROM A TO B LOOK AT WHERE I AM BRO"

Also as soon as I found out there's an Alliance "capital" city in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms, I mounted up, went on the top of Mount Neverest, jumped right off it towards the vale and what do you know, about a minute later I was in the Shrine of the Seven Stars.

Also a rather unfair advantage in BG's is that in Twin Peaks for one you can jump right off the Alliance fort stairs and you'll fly all the way to the other side of the river. In Arathi Basin you can 'parachute' to the BS as per usual, but also to stables, farm and gold Mine. In AV? Haven't tried yet, but I imagine from one of those towers on the Horde side you can float to the FoS and so on. I can already hear the nerf hammer for the *!@#$%.

I don't know what it is about this that makes such a huge difference to flying, but it's just so much more fun and feels so awesome. Makes me sad to realise people probably find it not-so-awesome once everyone's 90 and you can just fly everywhere again.

But as it is now, it deserves all the love you can give to it. Seriously, if you're an engineer, make one and go up to Mount Neverest or to the big bridge in the Jade Forest near Dawn's Blossom and FEEL THE AWESOMENESS.

Edit: Glider is a curseword? Interesting.
Edit2. Also the duration is currently bugged, because when it reaches 0 the glider doesnt disappear, you just keep on going. Which is nice cause otherwise I Would've died today.

Tooltip

Permanently attaches a specialized folding assembly to a cloak, allowing you to deploy a goblin glider and fall slowly for 2 min. The glider has some initial thrust and allows you to turn while falling.

The cloak can only be used once every three minutes and requires a Pandaria Engineering skill of at least 1 to operate.

Wow, this is FANTASTIC! I've just spent ages testing this out by jumping off high places and seeing how far I can get. A few I've managed....

  • Top of the highest spire in Dalaran to the foot of Wyrmrest

  • Temple of Storms, Stormpeaks to Drak'Tharon Keep, Zul'Drak

  • Top of Icecrown Citadel to the very end of Riplash Strand, Borean Tundra. I could have easily made it to Coldarra, Warsong Hold or Valiance Keep.

  • The Horde honor&conquest vendors on the Serpent's Spine to the portal to the Isle of Thunder in Townlong Steppes (I use this every time now!)

... where to next?

[addition] INCREDIBLY useful on Timeless Isle. Fly towards Timeless Isle, as high as you can, then when you get the dismount debuff, hit your gilder. You can get to ANY place on the island - great for getting to Cinderfall without having to run the gauntlet of Beserkers, or getting to Garnia without waiting several hours for a bird, or reaching those chests on top of the mountains, or simply just entering a Celestials battle with style! It's also possible to swim out away from the isle until you can mount up, then fly up, hit the glider, and glide back in.

*see edit below

It's particularly awesome in battlegrounds. Some particularly fun/useful glides:

  • ... from the starting point in Strand of the Ancients (defending) to the beach.

  • ... from the flag rooms in WSG and TP (Alliance side) to the middle of the field.**

  • ... from the starting points in Eye of the Storm to either of the two nearest towers.

  • ... from LM to GM in Arathi Basin.

**note, not while carrying the flag!

Aside from it's usefulness, it's just seriously epic. There is something so incredibly awesome about floating through the air on this thing, which just beats flying mounts hands-down. Maybe the lack of noise? Maybe the lack of needing to press anything to make it go forwards? Maybe just the gorgeous animations of the fluttering skin over the glider and the extra time we get to peruse the lovely views on offer in the landscape of WoW? Anyways, I am using this every chance I get.

Thanks, Blizzard, for a truly awesome addition to engineering!

A couple of things I have noticed:

  • Though the tooltip in the engineering schematic says it lasts 30s and has a 5 min cooldown, the glider tooltip (when attached to a cloak) actually has it lasting 2 min with a 3 min cooldown. I seriously hope this doesn't get fixed but I assume it will at some point.

  • (Even though the buff timer will tick down from 2 minutes to zero, the glider does not dismiss when you reach zero. The buff stays and you continue to glide. If you wish, you can glide for another minute then reapply the buff when the cooldown is up, but there doesn't seem to be much advantage in doing this. [edit] Actually, your forward speed appears to decrease with time, so it is a good idea to re-deploy the glider as soon as the cooldown is up to get a bit of a speed boost. If you do this you don't get as much of a boost as you do the first time, but the buff on you increases to 9 minutes... which is a little useless as by this time your forward motion has almost (if not entirely) run out!)
[edit] As of patch 5.2, this is no longer true, sadly. 2 minutes does actually MEAN 2 minutes. After this the glider will dismiss and you will plummet like a stone.

  • If anything halts your forward motion (like if you fly into a tree), this halts it for good, and from then on you will just fall vertically as if you had a regular parachute.

  • The glider can be used where you wouldn't normally be allowed to mount or fly. This includes indoors, in instances, in combat and in regular battlegrounds , but not rated battlegrounds, nor when you are carrying the flag/ball.

  • You CANNOT activate the glider while carrying the flag.

  • From the testing I've done so far, this item doesn't appear to malfunction.

Useful macro:

#showtooltip
/use 15

This will activate your Glider on your cloak, regardless of which cloak you are wearing (of course assuming you have the tinker applied to each of your cloaks!). Useful for those of us who regularly swap out item sets.

Use with Nitro Boosts:
Recently this has been nerfed to NOT activate if the nitro-boot aura is active, which killed me a number of times before I figured it out. A way around it is adding a line to your macro:

#showtooltip
/cancelaura Nitro Boosts
/use 15

[edit] to replace the censored "glider" as the word is now allowed :P
[edit 2] updated for patch 5.2: now dismisses after 2 minutes :'(
[edit 3] The above "from - to" may be misleading since the nerf to 2 minutes actually MEANING 2 minutes. If you're trying them, I'd advise you carry a[item=40727] just in case (as a hunter, you can disengage before impact to save you from a nasty fall, mages and priests have other slow fall mechanics).

Beta edit below:

This has been great fun to use in beta of WoD, for getting into all sorts of interesting places. The new engineering teleporter ( [item=112059]) lives up to the reputation of previous teleporters and at least one of the location options pops you out around 500ft above the Spires of Arak, so this glider can get you from there to a whole bunch of places in the zone. When used with the Rocket Boot malfunction this can also get you to loads of otherwise inaccessible places. I really think we'll have a great time in the no-fly Draenor with this thing :)

84596+32via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

Interesting use I found for it.

When a bad situation outside (World PvP, overpulled, aggroed elite mob) and escaping, I usually pop my Nitro Boosts. If the boosts malfunction and launch you into the air, you can pop this and it'll still thrust your forward from the top of your jump, still allowing you a clean getaway.

EDIT: Fixed on March 5 2026!

Seems like it's no longer possible to apply this to high-ilvl cloaks as of the Midnight prepatch. Unsure whether intended behavior or a stat squish-related bug. It can still be applied to the ilvl 108 Veteran 1/8 [item=211007] sold on a Delve vendor, but a 170 Reshii Wraps returns a "Level too high" error. (Quite a few legacy enchants are capped at ilvl 120, making that a potentially likely candidate for the cutoff, but I haven't confirmed that.)

Consider Flexweave Underlay as a slowfall alternative for the time being; certainly provides less movement control, but it can be applied just fine.

Teamer+24via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

I'll just stick to the original parachute tinker, thank you.
Why? The Lich King tinker can be used at a lower level, has a shorter cooldown, and probably won't burst into flames.

EDIT:
The glider and the Parachute both have the same mats now: 1 Tinker's Kit.
The CD is now 3 mins, and the duration of the slowfall buff is now 2 mins.
The whole 'bursts into flames' thing also seems to have been removed, as I've used this in MoP a few times, and it didn't explode on me.
I might just stick with this one now.

Lightbrand+20via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

Possibly the greatest tinker of all time.

Words cannot describe the excitement I get every single time I get to pop this thing, especially during a hasty getaway since daily quests are such a big part of getting rep.

Need a pristine crane egg to fish for shark? Grab egg, aggro crane NO PROBLEM.
Chased by a bunch of Houzen when you infiltrated their camp? CY@ LOSERS.
All these vermin rats on your back when you try to collect thousand year dumplings? Eat my dust.

The only way this tinker can get anymore awesome is if on activation
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EslAPkVvq1U
plays.

Someone get to that addon NAO!

ifjkl+11via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

A Good macro has been shown above, but here is a better one:
#showtooltip 15
/dismount [mounted]
/use 15

It will show your current cloak tooltip & symbol when you hover over it in your interface.
Will dismount you when you jump off a cliff while being mounted or to exit an vehicle like your chopper/mammoth (needed to activate tinker).
Upgrade safe, too, so you don't have to change your macros every time you get/equip another cloak.
At last, plz don't forget that (as like other engineer-tinkers) it stacks with other enchants like +intellect/hit/crit.
You can now bind it to a key as an "OH-S+it"-Button for hasty getaways and fun.

Update:
As of Patch 6.1.2 it has 2 minute use and 3 minute cooldown (and I don't care, what above tooltip says, because I testet it today). Usage counts toward cooldown, so in the best case you have to wait only one minute, before you can use it again.

Seems that the 'ancient' Goblin Glider is now the WoD version (I mean, 2 minute falling with the 3 min CD), but anyone can use them, just an engineer to make them, and not a 'cloak enchant' anymore, but a one-time item stackable to 20. Seems this is a great thing to get on ah early on the expansion. This now old-one Glider has those stuff in tooltip, but i guess it's gonna be underused come WoD. One thing though, the previous cloak you had the enchant WILL still have the new WoD Version 'abilities' (2 min fall in 3 min CD).

Edit: Forget what I said about the tooltip info. At least if you're an engineer and already got a cape with the previous 2 min fall and 3 min CD and enchant a new one with the one saying what is on that on this page, as soon you first use it it will 'change back' to the original one. Seems a bug or w/e . Because you already got the parachute from flexweave for 30s fall, but that 5 min CD though :/.

For an on-demand effect similar to this I've found that this + http://www.wowhead.com/item=40727 allows you to do some pretty interesting things. Specifically reach high places indoors that are otherwise inaccessible. There's a ledge inside the shrine of seven stars just above the main entrance higher than the two balconies that you can get to by spamming the gravity well then popping your glider. I dropped a Blingtron up there and laughed my ass off watching everyone try to climb the walls and spamming me whispers with "How did you get up there".

colar+5via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

because G-l-i-d-e-r is an old and long extinct botting program. I guess this site censor the name of common botting programs to discourage player from finding working bots. Since G-l-i-d-e-r was sued by Blizzard into extinction, and the word's now being used as a legal in-game item maybe Wowhead needs to change the censor and let g-l-i-d-e-r as legal and not blocked

So, I've been playing around with with awesome tinker for a while now, and as of 10/28/12, it lasts for more than 2 minutes flight time (gets stuck on 0s), and if you manage to fly for a full 3 minute and use it again, you get a slight boost of speed and the timer is bumped up to 9 minutes! (You can test this by heading to Mount Neverest, flying to max height, and gliding to the ocean.) Now if only they had higher places to glide off of....

nsmang+5via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

This is now back in Shadowlands after a hiatus in 8.3 because of the legendary cloak (which could not be modified by this).

Engineer's rejoice! Yes, it is not usable in most dungeons, but that has been the case for a long time.

Drathellia+4via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

Yeah so using the Goblin glider in combination with the Gnomish Gravity Well is pretty sweet out in the world. In Orgrimmar I was able to pop into the air higher than the front gate and then activated the %^&*!@. Its too bad you cant use the Gravity Well during a pvp match (u cant use it in combat already) that would have been sweet to literally glide anywhere from any point on a map by popping up in the air and then zooming off on the glider "forward thrust".

Kevlan+4via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

It looks like the current speculation is that the new cloak gets an on-use effect as you level it up. Each item can only have ONE on-use effect. If you could tinker the glider onto the cloak it would impact the on-use you get later. My suggestion - Make yourself a stack of Goblin Glider Kits and assign them to the same keybind as you used to use for your cloak's glider.
