WoW Forever Leveling Guide: 1 to 60

WoW Forever launches on November 4, 2026 as Blizzard's Classic-era progression realm. Leveling is still the same walk: quest in a zone until the quests turn grey, move to the next one, and step into a dungeon when your group is ready. This guide gives the order we would take for each faction, with a link to each zone page so you can see its subzones, flight paths and quest hubs in our database.

The level ranges below come from the zone pages in our Forever database, which read the beta client. Blizzard can change a range before launch, and several zones overlap on purpose, so treat every band as a window rather than a rule. The zone order inside a band is the route most Classic players used and is advice, not data.

Levels 1 to 10: starting zones

Every race starts in its own zone, and you should finish most of its quests before leaving. The starting zones are tuned so that a level 10 character has the first dungeon-ready spells.

Travel tips

  • Use flight paths early. Pick up every flight path you walk past. A flight path you skip costs a long run back later. Our travel section lists routes, boats and zeppelins.
  • Hearthstone to a hub, not a quest giver. Set your hearthstone at the inn closest to your next two or three zones, and change it when you move on.
  • Boats connect the continents. Alliance players cross to Kalimdor from Menethil Harbor or Auberdine, and Horde players on the zeppelins between Undercity and Orgrimmar. Read the travel section before you leave the starting area.
  • Mind contested zones. Ashenvale, Hillsbrad Foothills, Stranglethorn Vale and the Plaguelands can have enemy players. On a PvP realm, move in groups or level elsewhere until you are stronger.
  • Use rested XP. Rest in an inn or capital between sessions. Rested XP doubles experience from kills until it runs out.
  • Plan your professions. Gathering professions pay for themselves while you quest. See the Forever profession guides.

What changed in Forever

We compared the WoW Forever beta client (build 1.60.1.70338) with the Classic Era client (1.15.9.69722). The beta lists 71 maps and 1,373 areas against Classic Era's 59 maps and 1,212 areas. That is 12 named new maps, 156 new named areas and 5 renamed places. A map being in the client does not mean it opens at launch, and beta data can change. The full list is on New maps and zones. These are the changes that touch leveling.

Riverglades

A zone that is not in Classic Era. It sits on Eastern Kingdoms at level 36 to 44 with 19 subzones and 6 flight paths, per our zone page. It fits the 36 to 44 gap between Stranglethorn and the Hinterlands. Open the Riverglades zone page.

Ruins of Gilneas and Gilneas

Gilneas and the Ruins of Gilneas are zones that are not in Classic Era. The Ruins of Gilneas has 10 new named areas in the client, including Gilneas City and Emberstone Village. Our data prints no level range for it yet. Open the Ruins of Gilneas and Gilneas zone page.

Shen'dralas

A Kalimdor zone not in Classic Era with 6 new areas: Bristleback Retreat, Evenshade's Overlook, Forlorn Gardens, Magram Front and Outcast Hideaway among them. Our data prints no level range for it yet. Open the Shen'dralas zone page.

Zephras Isle

A new world map with its own areas, from Falaath Village to the Sanctum of Storms, at level 1 to 12 in the client. It reads like an extra starting-level area. Open the Zephras Isle zone page.

Mount Hyjal

Already a Classic Era zone, but with 9 new areas such as the Cradle of Tranquility and the Summit of Eternity. Our zone page lists it at level 55 to 60. Open the Mount Hyjal zone page.

Smaller additions

New areas appear in Alterac Mountains (Old Dalaran Ruins), the Burning Steppes (Poacher's Den), Dun Morogh (Ironforge Submarine Facility), Stormwind City (Stormwind Harbor), the Hinterlands, Tirisfal Glades, Wetlands, Azshara, Moonglade, Mulgore, Thousand Needles and Un'Goro Crater. None of these changes the main route.

Renamed places

Timbermaw Hold is Blackmaw Hold in the client, Legash Encampment is Legashi Encampment, and the Hyjal entries were folded into Mount Hyjal.

Where to go next

This guide will change as launch day nears. We do not give XP-per-hour numbers because the quest data and rates are not final in the beta. If you want the quest lists for a zone, open its page from the tables above or browse the Forever quest database. For your class, start from the class guides.
