I came here to say this. I suspect it is a reference because the overall structure of the sewers in that area is a bit similar to the Circle of Willis in the brain. The passageway to the upper left looks a bit like the MCA, and the short passages to the lower left look a bit like the pontine arteries, then you've got the vertebral arteries in the back...
